Detailed Reviews
Having done my research I felt Whistler lodge was the place my 18 year old daughter would feel the most at home and hopefully cared for. Having booked the hostel I realised with only a few days to go to departure that it was a 19 year old minimum stay. I contacted the hotel feeling I'd really crewed up but was quickly put at ease.
Having spoken to the manager Kylie who was amazing and said my daughter would be more than welcome and 19 was because of alcohol restrictions. I had numerous email communications with them and every member of staff were quick to respond and extremely so friendly.
My daughter's time was running out where she had nowhere to stay and the staff even went to the extent of emailing me to let me know they had sorted her out for a few more weeks.
My daughter has had the most amazing stay, she says the place has a lovely family feel about it, big cosy communal areas where everyone watches movies and great location. She said the staff are wonderful and everyone is so friendly.
From a parents view from over 4,000 miles way Whistler Lodge couldn't have made me feel more relaxed about my daughter being looked after and well.
Thanks you so much.......
Darren

Thank you so much for your review and kind words Darren. While we rarely bend on our 19+ policy, after much discussion with you and Amelie prior to booking we knew that she would be an awesome guest- and she has definitely proven us right! We hope to welcome you and the rest of your family to the Lodge one day :)

This place honestly feels like a home rather than a hostel. The staff here are SO friendly and helpful. The common area is always lively with people kicking about but there are also heaps of spaces where you can go and chill out if you're not feeling so social. The cleanliness of the hostel is also unreal with the staff doing a fantastic job in keeping the kitchen and common areas clean.
Have stayed in few hostels in my time and this is by far the best one.

Best hostel I’ve been too. The people and energy that the hostel brings is sweet. Met my current roommates there. If you’re looking for accommodations I would definitely recommend checking it out! Everyone is very helpful in helping you finding permanent accommodations

This hostel isideal for the young Traveller
The reason I say this is that being 60 and requiring to use the bathroom facilities is quite trek at 5 in the morning. As they are a good walk from the dorms.
The main area, kitchen and common area are quite cold unfortunately. This could be due to the cold weather they had in the valley at -14C, so this may not be the case, yet it is in a winter environment.
The staff are really friendly as are the other guests staying there, which is a huge plus!.
I strongly recommend taking ear plugs as I forgot to bring them, which means no sleep.
Please be aware that you'll need to take slippers up there as outside footwear must be left inside the front door.
Also they have a passcode front door lock, so new guests have to use the buzzer to get in, quite a unique way to enter such a large hostel!
Cheers Richard

Thank you for your review Richard, I am so pleased that you met some lovely people during your stay! We understand that the shared lodge environment is not for everyone and highly encourage our guests to let us know before their arrival if they have requirements that would make their stay more comfortable (being placed closer to the bathroom, a bottom bunk, etc) We also have free ear plugs on our front desk that guests are welcome to use!

We stayed at the private room. The hostel is well maintained and the stuff is very nice. Everything is clean and the kitchen offers everythink one might need for cooking some food. Good option for a budget stay in Whistler.

I didn’t make it up in time for my first reserved night, so the hostel cancelled the reservation on the 2nd night with no forewarning, They pocketed the reservation fee and set up another. Oh, and I’ve tried to call twice now to talk to someone and guess what?! They don’t have an answering machine. It just… rings. Scummy, unprofessional, penny pinchers…

Hi Derek, We sent you several emails after you made a booking: one a confirmation email with your booking information and our Cancellation and No-Show policy, another the morning of your arrival day to determine your arrival time and note our front desk hours, and finally one with late check-in information so that you could access the Lodge after the front desk closed at 11pm. You did not arrive that night and we heard nothing back from you until the following afternoon. By that time we had released the bed to another guest as you gave no indication that you were planning to come at all. As per the information in your booking confirmation we don't take pre-payment so you were not charged for the second night, only the first night as per our No-Show policy. We are having issues with our phone line, guests are welcome to email us with any questions or concerns and we will hopefully have it fixed ASAP.

If I could I would give this place unlimited stars! The staff is super nice and easygoing, as are all the people who stay there. It feels more like a home than a hostel, super clean and bright with loads of stuff to do and always cool people to meet. I stayed here for 3 weeks while searching for permanent accommodation in Whistler and honestly I didn’t want to leave even when I found a apartment. I will definitely be back in the future :)

Very nice, cottage like hostel. The common area is really cool, and also the beds are hidden with the curtains. ANd the people are very nice, i got the feeling most of them live there, but they are very open to meet you. I don't know how is in the winter season though, but for the summer definietly reccomend.

Hi there! Sorry about the delay in response. Yes, each bunk has a power outlet & lamp, shelf and small mirror cabinet within it's own 'nook'.

If you cancel within 72 hours of your arrival a cancellation fee of $23 per bed will be charged (or $57.50 for private room bookings).
Modifications within the 72 hour time frame may be charged the $23 fee at management’s discretion.
Hope the information helps, please let us know if you have any further questions!
Hi there!
Sorry about the delay in response but I see you have answered your own question!

Hi Stephen and DrumChica,
Thanks for your reviews and comments! We are certainly not for everyone, but we take pride in what we do. I may be biased, but I like our bunks. I find them preferable to metal bunk beds that can get squeaky and creaky and I like the little cave.
We've had a couple giant dudes stay with us, and there are definitely some bunks that are better than others for large individuals. Thankfully no head injuries on low hanging objects either!! Have to keep your head and your tips up when you're in the mountains...
Safe travels!
Hi Catsmalaki,
We have a fair amount of parking and in the summer season, you can also park on the street if need be, winter season there is overnight parking on the street as well, but only on one side due to snow removal.
We are a welcoming place, especially because of the communal set up in the Lodge, we hope that all of our guests engage with each other and come with open hearts and open minds!
Good question! We have had some other tall and otherwise large (Linebacker from Washington University) guests come and stay with us and be OK, though there are some areas that would be more hazardous for your head than others!
You should be fine in the bunks and we will do our best, based on availability, to assign a bunk that would better suit you if we know who you are and when you are coming.
