We stayed at Bear's Den 2 with Gord and Lynn during a polar bear photography tour with Discover Churchill and I cannot say enough good things about how welcoming and warm their home is. Gord and Lynn are so caring and take such pride in their home - from the artwork to the furniture to the cleanliness.

The beds are very comfortable and the flannel polar bear sheets were a nice touch! Gord cooked amazing breakfasts each day - everything was so fresh and well prepared. I particularly enjoyed the french toast and homemade cinnamon syrup. I would highly recommend staying at Bears' Den 2!

The Bears Den 1 & 2 are great places to rest and relax. Gordan and Lynn are excellent hosts and both are excellent cooks. We were always well fed before we went out on the tundra of Churchill looking for Polar Bears. Lynn is also an incredible baker and from what heard at the Winnipeg, she used to own and operate her own bakery in Churchill

Our trip to Churchill, Manitoba, to see the polar bears was the trip of a lifetime. We made reservations a year in advance, to ensure we'd have accommodations, transportation, and the tours we wanted. If that seems a bit extreme, let me assure you, it isn't.

If you want a do it yourself vacation, minus the scheduled tours and scheduled hours, you need to find accommodations that are not booked by those tours. That means Churchill's hotels are out of the question. The tours have them booked solid.

What to do? Find a B&B (actually my preference in any situation) where there are a few rooms for those who march to a different beat than the orchestrated group. This is always a tentative situation. What will you find? We were fortunate to find the Bear's Den B&B and had a great time there.

Memory foam mattress pads on the beds assured comfortable night sleeps. Fire in the fireplace made the whole house cozy. Gordy's breakfasts were great - waffles, eggs, whatever you wanted and whenever you needed them to catch the early tour departures to the tundra.

Lynn made everything homey. In fact, it was just like being home, minus the work. No cooking, cleaning, or laundry. It was heaven. So, how do I rank the Bear's Den? It's top of the line, and Gordy even drove us to the train station when we departed, so we wouldn't have to lug the luggage.

Highly recommended.

Gordon and Lynn are amazing, warm, pleasant and extremely helpful. The home is charming and the breakfast they cook daily is so yummy. For the record, some other person that wrote a recommendation in October was totally incorrect, this home is not a 20 minute walk to town, it's right in town... You can walk anywhere within two to three minutes. Everyone in the town are so nice, a must do.

This B&B is only open for a couple of months a year, during peak Polar Bear season. Normally it's a family home, so the owners aren't full-time B&B runners (although they've been doing it a while).

In fact it felt more like an Air BnB in many ways than a B&B - staying in someone's home rather than specific tourist accommodation.

And of course there's benefits to that. It is relaxing, you're invited to chill in the lounge watching TV with the family. You can use the kitchen, even cook your own meals if you want to (we didn't). It's also a bit cheaper than some of the other options in (expensive) Churchill.

But I felt that some of the features a more established tourist location would offer would have been valued. We asked before coming if we needed to book activities and were told no. And when we arrived we asked about things to do and we given quite vague ideas. In the end there wasn't much to do in Churchill and the tours of the town were fully booked. As it was so cold this meant a lot of just staying in the house, which was a shame.

Some of the accommodations we saw advertised when we were in the town offered various options for guests, and I think we hindsight we'd have been better with one of these. In addition many of the slightly more expensive places offered free airport pickup, and at C$25 for a trip each way, that makes a difference.

Because both owners worked, the latest we could have breakfast on our second day was 8am so they could leave on time. This breakfast was nice, though not exceptional.

There is a lovely friendly family cat and the bathtub is great (toilets are shared).

I felt the whole time that the owners were looking forward to the "season" being over and getting their home back (I can't say I blame them, but then I don't run a B&B).

If you've got everything sorted before to arrive then this could be a good option, but if you're looking for a little bit of extra help to get the most out of your stay in Churchill you may want to look elsewhere.

We were blessed to have our trip planners, Hallo Bay Tours, set us up at Gordon, his wife (sorry, I forgot her name) and their families' Bed & Breakfast for our vacation!

The accommodations were beyond our expectations!!! Their home was clean, spacious and beautiful, they were the most amazing hosts ever and even gave us THEIR room for the duration of our stay!!!

We loved waking up to fresh bread every morning and looked forward to returning to their home each evening after our day's adventures.

You will never find another place like the Bear's Den B&B and we hope to have the opportunity to be blessed with another trip to Churchill, especially if they have room for us! :-)

PS - We were there in 2007, but it is my understanding from friends we met on this trip that everything is EXACTLY the same!!!

Cheap, clean Quiet place. A little walking to do to restaurants, store and station

There is near by vehicle rental place and the railway station is about 20 mins walk. No public phone at this place or breakfast service.
