It appears that if one is traveling solo and out of season, the Tundra Inn may be quite isolated and lonely. There are no dining facilities and, although the town is very small, I did not have a car, I was advised that walking in the evening was unadvisable. The breakfast is poor. My experience may have been different if travelling in the 'tourist ' season although I believe that this should not make a difference. All bed linen were not ironed.

Churchill is a remote town that can only be reached by sea, rail or air. There isn't therefore a lot of choice when it comes to Hotels or restaurants which is kind of what you expect from a town with a population of only 900 people. The Tundra Inn was very basic and whilst relatively comfortable it didn't offer anything more than a bed for the night. The room was clean but basic and the heating needs some working out.
One advantage of staying at the Tundra Inn is their bar / restaurant over the road which did offer a friendly service and wholesome food - you could however use this if you were staying somewhere else as it is open to the general public. I didn't visit any of the other Hotels but would imagine they are all broadly similar.

We stayed at the Tundra Inn the 1st week of March 2014. Our trip was to view the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) - we saw the lights & they were GREAT. We stayed at the Tundra Inn and found our hostess (Belinda) & the Tundra Inn to both be excellent.
Traveling thousands of miles to a remote location can be intimidating. Belinda assisted us with pre-trip advice - real & helpful advice. The Tundra Inn's personal touch included: picking us up at the train station, taking us on a brief tour of Churchill and continued help while we at the Tundra Inn. All was GREATLY APPRECIATED and very helpful. The personal touch made this more than a stay in a hotel – it was like staying with a friend.
The Tundra Inn – good accommodations, clean, comfortable lobby, and good breakfast area (including home made muffins on some mornings).
Churchill is not for everyone. It is for the adventurous. If you’re going for a 5 star luxury hotel & spa – it’s not Churchill. If you want a great adventure and love the outdoors & wildlife – Churchill is an experience you won’t forget and the Tundra Inn & Belinda are the way to go !!!
We gladly recommend staying at the Tundra Inn, giving it & Belinda the highest ratings.

Hi Claude, Thank you for your review of the Tundra Inn. You give a great idea of what others travelling to Churchill might expect - it is definitely not for those who are looking for luxury spas, but if you love the outdoors and wildlife, Churchill is for you! We're glad to hear that you had a wonderful trip to our small town and welcome you back anytime. Sincerely, Tundra Inn Staff

We just returned from our stay at the Tundra Inn in Churchill Manitoba. It was a lifetime dream to see the Northern Lights. When we arrived Belinda welcomed us at the train, gave us a tour of the town, and gave us a quick Polar Bear safety talk. We planned on renting a car and driving out to dark and wait for the Northern lights but there were no car rentals left! We were so disappointed and asked Belinda for a suggestion. She immediately facilitated our getting transportation and offered to call us if the Northern Lights were visible. After a few nights with only clouds, Belinda called letting us know they were visible. We had a spectacular time watching these green, yellow and blue lights dance across the Hudson Bay. While sitting in the car watching a Polar Bear approached the car. Stood up on his hind legs and gave us a memory of a lifetime. Next day we saw Beluga whales! What a trip. The Inn is friendly, welcoming and cozy. The staff make it the best! They are invested in you having a great vacation. The restaurant across the street is the best in town. We will do this again. We recommend it highly!!!

Yes, my room at the Tundra Inn was clean and the bed was comfortable. And yes, it had a large fridge. It also had no access to drinking water (nothing in the fridge in my room, and the vending machine in the lobby was empty. Tap water tasted terrible - I was sick the next day, did it have anything to do with drinking the tap water I wonder? Couldn't boil the water as was only supplied with a coffee machine and the hot water dispenser in the lobby did not work.
Also staff's main priority appeared to be their entitlement to the Thanksgiving holiday. After check in the afternoon, they all left and didn't return until 8am the next morning because 'it's Thanksgiving!'.
Also take some breakfast provisions with you - because although the staff are friendly at the hotel restaurant - they were unable to produce a hot cup of tea or a piece of toast!! Not big asks for a breakfast, I would have thought.

Wow. The owner Belinda made us feel so welcome when we arrived. Just LOVED our stay there. The rooms are spartan but spotless. You are never there you are out looking for polar bears and belugas. Very sufficient continental breakfast laid out in the morning with coffee etc. Staff were just wonderful and friendly. Would 100% recommend this place to stay it is VERY close to absolutely everything. Would not stay anywhere else. We ate every night at the Restaurant across the street. Excellent, just excellent meals. Loved the waiter Rob - he could not have made us feel more special. Thanks Belinda and Rob. We loved our stay with you,.

The Tundra Inn is not a fancy hotel , but it does offer clean, comfortable, spacious rooms at a reasonable price, considering you are on the edge of the boreal forest. The rooms also come with a small refrigerator. A modest breakfast is included. During our July stay rooms on the second floor were rather warm and somewhat stuffy compared to those on the first floor. The Inn has a shuttle service to and from the Churchill airport.
Be sure to have a meal at the Tundra Inn restaurant across the street.

can't control mother nature. an expensive adventure north for a lack luster experience to see the great white bears. they were around town as we could hear the patrols doing what they do to scare them off and warn people they were about, but didn't even see one while on the tundra buggy (another expensive flop for our stay). but can't complain about the tundra inn, and food across the street was very good with the chef doing a fabulous job given shopping limitations.

Overall: We very much enjoyed the Town of Churchill and the Tundra Inn is the perfect place to stay. The location was nice (not that Churchill is a massive town), the rooms were large and clean. The hotel offered complimentary airport pick up and drop off, as well as complimentary use of their laundry facilities. The Tundra Inn Pub had beautiful local dishes that were exceptionally good! The only major issue was the internet, it was extremely slow when it was working.
Pros: The rooms weren't anything fancy, but they were clean and large. The bathroom was a bit dated too, but clean. The airport pick up/drop offs were a nice touch. The hotel is situated just behind the town's main supermarket, making a quick shopping run easy. The Tundra Inn Pub was wonderful! The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was local, exceptionally nice and very reasonably priced. The hotel also let you do your laundry free of charge if you need to.
Cons: The only major con was the internet. It would work slowly when the majority of guests were out for the day, but when they returned in the evening you couldn't even log on. It made staying in touch with the outside world a bit difficult. Breakfast was also served very early and for only a short period of time (6:30-8 am). It would have been better to extended it til 9 am, so that guests could sleep in a bit. The price of the hotel was also quite high, but Churchill is very seasonal so this is somewhat understandable.
Overall: I would return to the Tundra Inn. The food alone is reason to return! Our stay was memorable and enjoyable.

Hi there,
Tundra Inn posts their hotel rates for each season on their website. I can't post the link here but you should be able to find it by searching for "Tundra Inn Hotel Rates"
The Tundra Inn rep contacted Marc Ingebritsen for me. (I was there in Sept. - too early for the Tundra Buggies). Marc has lived in Churchill for several years and knows the area & its history well. The tour cost $100, lasted ~ 3 hr. & included several sites around town (he is knowledgeable about the historical significance of each), a visit to the Churchill Northern Studies Centre (CNSC) then we watched a roaming adult polar bear for a while. A pleasant guy who knows where the bears are likely to be. We were also lucky to watch the Natural Resources officers as they loaded 2 bears from the Polar Bear Jail into a net & carried them away from town with a helicopter (happens when the jail is full). Overall, time well spent.
I later worked with a group for 11 days at the CNSC. Our group hired Mark for an afternoon & he found a female & her cub - lots of photos. (watch for an article in 'National Geographic Traveller' that one group member is writing on Eco-Tourism). Ended the day with a visit to the polar Bear Jail (can't go inside but several displays outside).
Mark worked at North Star Tours, pone 204 675 - 2147. His cell # was 204 675 - 0016 Ask if he can show you around for a few hours.
Hi there! I ran your question into google translate, so I hope that it was translated correctly.
There are no polar bears in Churchill in May. They tend to come back into the area in July and stay until late November. Prime polar bear viewing season is in October/November.
A double room in November is $255 a night. We do not own Tundra Buggies, but we work closely with a company called Frontiers North Adventures who own the official Tundra Buggy in Churchill. You can book your polar bear viewing activity through them.
Thanks for your question and again I hope the translation is correct.
