The Bear Country Inn is conveniently located on the main street in Churchill Manitoba Canada, the Polar Bear Capital of the world! Within walking distance to all shopping and restaurants, entertainment is always close at hand. Guests can rest at ease in our cozy, but modest 26 room Inn. Each of our rooms are simply furnished and feature a private commode, standing showers, a flat-screen TV, small refrigerator and free wifi within the hotel. Shuttle to/from the airport and train station can also be arranged, free of charge. *Please be advised that half of our Inn is currently undergoing renovations for 2017, due to a leak we experienced in the previous year. We are on a brighten path to becoming the best that we can offer in accommodations as we go through this transformation. We appreciate your understanding at this time and hope to see you during the busy 2017 season!*

Any lodging in Churchill is booked up during October and November since it is prime polar bear viewing season. This was the only place with two rooms available when I was searching for a booking. It is very basic accomodations with rather small rooms. A basic breakfast is provided with cereals, pastries, boiled eggs, toast, canned fruit, milk, and coffee. They meet the train and planes their customers are arriving on and will store your bags until check in time if your arrival is early. The hotel also has a few vehicles that are available to rent on short notice if you wish to drive somewhere to visit a local site or go aurora viewing. I learned from a reliable source in Churchill that the hotel is in the process of being sold, so there may be some changes by next season.

When you are in Churchill, if you are spending a lot of time in your hotel room then you are very much doing it wrong. They provide a very basic clean room at a 2 star hotel that works fine. If you are looking for luxury look elsewhere, but if you want a very well priced room then I would recommend this.

The Bear Country Inn is on the main street in Churchill and very convenient for all shops and restaurants. We received a friendly welcome from Michelle but after checking in did not see our hosts again. The room was small and basic but we were not expecting luxury accommodation on the tundra. The bed was comfortable and the heating very efficient. The bathroom was small, clean and only had a shower. Come prepared with your own hairdryer etc. There are no facilities for making drinks in the room and no phone (but there is one in the lobby). You'll get no mobile signal in Churchill either.
Breakfast was pretty limited but we enjoyed the cooked buffet breakfast across the road at Northern Lights (that was an alternative option offered as part of our tour package) very much.
Polar bears in town are a nightly occurence and you need to take your own security very seriously. We had polar bear footprints outside our bedroom window one night.
There are no eveining meals or liquour licence at the Bear Country Inn but we found plenty of places to eat in town. Gypsy's Bakery provided a great luch in town and on the tundra buggy, with great pastries too. Northern Lights provided a very good eveing meal. Our welcome and farewell dinners at the Seaport Hotel were completely acceptable althought the ambience was rather lacking. As everything has to be flown or railroaded in groceries and restaurants are NOT cheap. It doesn't break the bank but don't expect cheap either.
Rumour has it the Lazy Bear Lodge is the best place to stay in town. However the Bear Country Inn was perfectly fine for what we needed. After all you are here for the Polar Bears and other wildlife.
The tundra buggy tours were fabulous with a wealth of bears and other wildlife. Paul Ratson is a fantastic naturalist. Try to use the toilet before getting on the buggy so you use it as little as possible during the day - it is basic and standards drop as the day progresses.
Dog sledding with Dave Daley of Wapusk Adventures is a "Must Do". The Iditamile experience is fantastic with just two of you in the sled with the musher and Dave's stories are legendary.
Seeing the polar bears in the wild was a lifetime's ambition for me and at the top of my "bucket list". The trip with Great Canadian Travel met and exceeded my expectations. I am still pinching myself that I saw what I saw. I'd go back like a shot, finances allowing. Perfection!

I had a dispute with the front desk when I checked in, but even if I was at fault, I still think about how they handled it. The next morning, the door to the breakfast room was open, so I went in, and the front desk staff from the previous day was sitting there and said with a straight face, "You guys are 15 minutes early." I got annoyed and went back. The door was closed at night, so I shouldn't have opened it until the time, but it was a very unpleasant morning. It's in a good location and reasonably priced, so I used it again after a long time, but it seems that the owner changed a few years ago. I don't want to have such an unpleasant experience, so I will never stay there again.

We stayed at the Bear Country Inn in November for 3 nights as part of our tour with the Great Canadian Travel Company and found the accommodation to be fine given the location. There a no 5***** hotels in Churchill and while some may be better than BCI we were quite happy with what we had. The rooms are warm, showers hot and beds comfy. WiFi was excellent. Breakfast was basic but adequate although the breakfast room was cramped with a hotel full of people. Best to eat early to avoid the rush. We thought this hotel was more than adequate. After all we were there to see the Polar Bears and spent very minimal time in the rooms anyway

I was in Churchill recently. I've been before so I knew what it was like. I was nervous about going alone, and was considering a package I got with Great Canadian Travel since I'd be staying here, where I've never stayed. I called before booking with a lot of questions. I talked to Katherine who was awesome! She put all my fears to rest and by the time I decided to go I felt like I already had a friend there. I went in a day early and Amy picked me up at the airport and was so sweet and helpful. They were great about offering to help me get places since I was alone and reluctant to walk, especially at night. I felt very well taken care of. They were great at recommendations and were so kind to all the people staying there. The rooms were warm and cozy and they worked hard to meet every need. I was so comfortable there I look forward to returning!

Churchill is not a cheap destination but I found the Country Bear Inn's rates pleasantly reasonable. Even better, they offer a good sized breakfast with snacks available throughout the day (bagels, popcorn, yogurts, trail mix, fruit, cereal, cream cheese, coffee, tea etc). The rooms were spotless and I really liked the linens. Set your expectations appropriately though, you are in Churchill, so don't expect marble in the bathrooms or hardwood floors. Likewise for cable tv. There is wireless internet though. I was very appreciative of the airport shuttle and even more so of the friendly staff and manager! They helped me book my tours and recommended a flight tour that I will never forget! there is also a nice common room in which to meet other travellers.

Bear Country Inn (BCI) is a clean, warm, dry, and hospitable motel. It's no Hilton, but if that's what you require, I advise staying clear of Churchill completely -- it's a frontier town. The BCI is run by a husband/wife team, Sheldon and Michelle, who are very knowledgeable of the Churchill scene. They're accommodating hosts, willing to advise, call for tours or restaurant reservations - you name it, they'd probably try to work it out for you. My wife and I stayed at the BCI and after talking with other tourists in town, we felt extra satisfied with our choice. While everything in Churchill is within a pretty short walk of everything else, the BCI is located next door to the Tundra Buggy Tour operators, a convenience when the winds blow and the snow flies. Also, the BCI provides taxi/van service to/from the train station and/or the airport - another great convenience. If I ever go back, I know who to call for a room.

The owner is not nice at all. He shutdown the breakfast half an hour before the supposed ending time; and even lock the fridge! Nobody wanted to be treated as thief, for sure. The room is very small. Well, consider the price, it might be at the right value...

We had not made reservations. When we arrived Katherine and Amy were picking up two other couples. We asked them if they had room and they said yes. We stayed 3 days and two nights with them. We were treated like family. We learned a lot about Churchill and themselves. They made our reservations for the Old Fort tour and Beluga whales trip. We saw Polar Bears, Beluga Whales,a Artic Hare. It was far more than we expected. On the last day we were treated by Amy to the old plane wreckage and Cape Merry. We just want to say a true THANK YOU. The Fosters of Kalispell, Montana
