In Churchill we were outfitted with warm parkas, pants and boots and we stayed cozy and warm in spite of being in open vehicles. The guides at Nanuk are dedicated, knowledgeable and go out of their way to give you an experience you will not forget! The Northern Lights were incredible, walking with a pack of wild wolves was unforgettable and the food was amazing considering how isolated this place is! Thank you to Emri, Michael and Jordan, our terrific guides, for all you did to make this trip one we will always cherish!

I have dreamt about seeing polar bears in the wild my entire life. I finally looked into gong to Churchill to see the polar bears and didn't really want to see the bears from a tundra buggy. I started researching Churchill Wild and decided this is the way I want to see polar bears. And while it was expensive, it was worth every penny. This trip exceeded my expectations in so many ways. From kayaking with belugas to having Grey wolves approach us and observing pack dynamics (22 including 5 pups) and of course, the polar bears. We were fortunate to see polar bears and wolves everyday but had two special encounters. One with a mama and her two cubs. She felt comfortable with us around to even nurse. And one with a 1,500 pound male polar bear who had to be one of the most beautiful animals I've ever seen in my life. The lodge, food, guides and lodge staff were so amazing! You will not be disappointed booking a trip with Churchill Wild!

It's been a week now since I had to say goodbye to Nanuk Lodge, and I am still in awe how incredibly amazing this trip was. From the first email contact to the final farewell, Churchill Wild provided a top-notch experience. Leading up to the trip, they provided great information on how to prepare and what to expect. The journey to and from the lodge was a part of it...the dinner and orientation on the first night in Winnipeg was a great way to further learn what to expect, but also to meet your fellow explorers. It seemed right away I was in the company of a good group of people. CW also have a gear room at the hotel to make sure you are well prepared for the Arctic weather. This gear made all the difference to ensure we were comfortable - bring layers along to wear depending on the weather and your personal comfort level. Arriving at the small airport in Churchill, we were greeted by Churchill Wild staff. We put on the snow pants provided and hopped on the CW bus to be taken over to their hangar to board the bush plane for the next leg of the journey. During this flight to and from the remote lodge, the pilot was also a skilled spotter, pointing out polar bears on the Hudson Bay ice below us...amping up the excitement of what was to come. Landing on the small air strip at the lodge we were then greeted by the guides and staff like we were old friends. We were assigned our rooms and quickly settled in. The lodge and rooms themselves are simply, but well designed. There are large picture windows everywhere - it is about the opportunity to view wildlife after all! Everyone commented on how comfortable the beds were... and the main lodge was a cozy place to warm up next to the fire and share stories or pictures with the other guests and guides. When I went, having barely settled in, a scout wolf came by the lodge and started to howl ...wow... what a beautiful sight and sound... to call over the pack. The guides quickly gathered everyone around to give a safety talk before we went outside of the fence around the compound. With their guidance we stood in our small group (there were 10 of us) and were in awe as the wolf pack started to come by to check us out. This pack of about 15 Cloud wolves walked past us, seemingly interested in us just as much as we were in them. There was a calm feeling through this encounter and never a sense of threat by them. We were fortunate to have another close encounter with some of them and several more sightings. Every morning and every afternoon we went out either to walk or by snowmobile (with Qwamutiks ...sleds) with our 'Polar Bear Trackers'. We saw several polar bears..most off in the distance on the ice. They are wildlife after all, and the guides are respectful of their space, so it was up to them on how close and curious they were. Bring binoculars and a good zoom lens. Regardless, of how close or far they were, it was remarkable to see these beautiful, majestic, healthy creatures in their environment. We also saw magnificent Bull Moose, a couple of Snowy Owls (again, wow!), Ptarmigans, a Fox... and of course, Lemmings. Meals are served family style in the main lodge. The kitchen crew were lovely and provided delicious food with local fare as much as possible. The Northern Pike was fantastic!! They are super patient as well, as the wildlife trumps everything... so when they come right up to the windows, meals are forgotten, and everyone goes to observe them as much as they observe us. To Mike & Jeannie.. thank you for the warm and wonderful hospitality. Emriy, Mike and Jordan.. thank you for your skilled and knowledgeable tracking and guiding skills.. and the lodge and maintenance crew... thank you for keeping us well fed and comfortable.. that's a whole lot of snow shoveling! Collectively, you all provide a very special and unique experience like no other. To you, the reader... if you have the chance... let Churchill Wild take you on this adventure. It really is quite something.

This was my second trip with Churchill Wild, my first was at their Seal River Heritage Lodge and it was out of this world, so my expectations were high. First and foremost, I was once again astonished by the warm and hospitable welcome we received from the staff. Clearly this is company culture, was just as wonderful and inviting as what I experienced at Seal River Heritage Lodge. Simply put, the staff are ultra welcoming, engaging and genuinely hospitable. I remember each by name and they made the trip wonderful. The owners of the lodge have written multiple cookbooks on Northern cooking and again, the talent in the kitchen did not disappoint. Family-style dining ensured that we connected with each guest on site, and each meal was amazing. No shortage of second helpings either, and me with my sweet tooth...I enjoyed double desserts at most meals. The wildlife viewing was utterly sensational. As if cued up for our arrival, we were visited by a pack of 15 wolves right in front of the lodge on our first day. Literally, we stood still while the pack walked around us and among us. I was safe at all times with our talented and experienced guides by our side. All we needed to do was to enjoy the moment. We saw a number of moose on this trip as well, and of course we encountered a number of polar bears as they marched past the lodge. The photography was wonderful and the guides worked hard to get us close enough to see them and photograph them. The guides were truly expert in their field. Led by Emery, each have encyclopedic knowledge of the bears, their habits, environment and how to behave in their presence. We did experience a few close encounters but again, I felt safe at all times. It should be noted for future guests considering this trip that wildlife can come and go and, in this environment, can be hard to predict. Set your expectations accurately...it is wildlife and not every day is filled with sightings. The guides will do their very best to track them and get you close to them, but safety is the priority and getting as many viewing opportunities as possible is the goal. Some days you might see a lot, other days are quieter. What is noticeable is how hard the team works and how they remain positive (and keep the group in high spirits) no matter what they see. All in all, this could not have been a more wonderful experience. The Webbers are amazing people and continue to create world class experiences in the Manitoba wilderness. I HIGHLY recommend a visit.

This trip is outside in the sub-arctic. It's cold this time of year. There will be walking in deep snow. Animals and weather can be unpredictable, but it's amazing. The whole experience is unbelievable, and the people are truly amazing. There's not a single member of the staff that will not go above and beyond to make sure that you have the best possible experience. Conditions can't and won't be perfect (it's the sub-arctic,) but the people will make sure your experience is one you will never forget. Also, shout out to Outside Mike for possibly being the most interesting man in the world.

Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge sits in the middle of a vast wilderness about twice the size of Switzerland. However, the beautiful lodge and excellent food make you almost forget, how remote this place really is. But then, there‘s the wildlife! The wolf pack roaming the area never had any hunting pressure and is therefore not afraid of humans. But they are also not habituated to humans. Their natural curiosity led them to check us out as closely as 15 feet. There was no aggression, not feeling of fear on either side of this encounter, just incredible emotions. But wolves were not the only animals we spotted. We saw polar bears testing out the quickly forming sea ice of Hudson Bay. Moose bulls were roaming the willows and we even spotted two snowy owls and many willow ptarmigans. After all, to us, Nanuk really is our magical place! The combination of wildlife viewing, great staff and a really cozy lodge is just unique.

One of my bucket list trips was to go to see wildlife on Hudson's Bay. The trip of a lifetime came true this November when I travelled with my partner to Churchill and then boarded a charter to Nanuk Lodge, located on Hudson's Bay. We were impressed with the efficient and clear messaging while preparing for our flight up north. (Right down to the proper gear to keep us toasty)! We landed at the lodge and within 2 hours were welcomed by a pack of wolves. To say I was speechless was an understatement. These wolves were not looking at us from behind a fence! Mind blowing!! This encounter happened again the next day. We travelled on foot and by snowmobile to different areas of the bay to look for Moose and Polar Bears. We were able to see the Moose in the willows and saw a few bears in the distance. Mother nature is in charge here and decides what and when you will see it. The food and beverages were soul warming! From the mulled wine around the bonfire to the hot breakfasts, warm lunches and homemade breads, we were well fed! The guides were very knowledgeable and the team making sure were we were well nourished could not have been kinder or more accommodating. Mike and Jeanne are impeccable hosts and shared some amazing stories! Definitely would recommend this trip as well as the company to anyone looking for a memorable travel experience. Thank you to the entire team at Nanuk Lodge!

This whole trip offered by Churchill Wild was out of this world. The entire organization is flawless. After being flown into the remote lodge somewhere on the coast of Hudson Bay we settled into our spacious and very comfortable ensuite room before having a delicious lunch. This was served in the wonderfully welcoming and warm central area, which serves as dining room, lounge, meeting room and viewing area. Amazing views out across the Bay. The next few days were spent driving and walking our on the taiga/coastal wetlands in search of wildlife. We were fortunate to see several polar bears, including a mother and cub, all at some distance. Then there were the wolves! We had incredible close up encounters with several wolves on different days. The Northern Lights obliged by showing up two nights in a row. Birds everywhere. What's not to like! The food was great, the staff are excellent, the guides some of the best we've ever encountered. Wish we'd stayed longer. The overall experience is akin to an African Safari, but in completely different habitat.

Had an amazing trip!! Best way to review this is to break it down by key areas: 1) Lodge: The main common area is a beautiful wooden structure with a fireplace, cozy chairs, etc. It is a place that will definitely get you to linger. The rooms are comfortable and simple with hot showers. 8 rooms are spread over two wings. The wings and the main common area have big windows overlooking the landscape. The food is very tasty! Canadian beer and wine are also served. It is amazing that everything for the lodge has to be flown in. 2) Location: The lodge is in a stunning location at the edge of a spruce forest and the flats that extend to the Hudson Bay. It is remote and absolutely stunning! So beautiful. 3) The Experience: The day consists of a morning activity, lunch at the lodge, and an afternoon activity. Some times an all day activity will be done and lunch is eaten "in the field". The activities consist of a combination of riding custom built vehicles that place you high above the surrounding vegetation and walks. If you see polar bears (and the conditions are right), you will walk closer to see them (still >100 yards). Being on the ground watching polar bears is great. In the evenings they have educational programs after dinner, which was very nice. You also have a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights (which we did) 4) The Wildlife. Calling this lodge a "polar bear lodge" is the "undersell" of the tourism business! The location of the lodge is a prime location at the intersection of different habitats (coastal & boreal). As such, the potential to see lots of different wildlife is great. The wolf viewing has got to be the best in the world...we saw them up close almost every day. They even come by the lodge! We also saw black bears almost every day, polar bears, and lots of birds. If you want a diversity of wildlife along with seeing polar bears then this is the place. A note...this is a HUGE wilderness area. The guides have an idea of where the polar bears are and know that the guests want to see them. Sometimes this may mean that they are right outside of the lodge and other times it may mean that you need to drive a couple of hours to see them (which was the case for us). Loved seeing the polar bears but the wolves were even more amazing for me!!! 5) The Staff: Second to none! Extremely helpful and they really spoil you! They keep everything clean and cozy. You will never go hungry. The guides are also great. The knowledge is evident and they have an incredible respect for their surroundings and animals. They are very informative and you instantly feel relaxed. I have been on African safaris and this is a very similar experience. It is truly a place that should not be missed. Planning to go to the Seal River Lodge (sister property) in the future to experience a different habitat and animals.

Despite extreme heat, the guides made every effort to get us to the polar bears and were quite successful. We even had a mom and two cubs walk right up to our vehicles. Add that to numerous sightings of the local wolf pack (several right at the lodge), a curious black bear and eagles and we had our fill of wildlife sightings. The lodge staff were incredibly welcoming, the chef was amazing and we even were awakened one night for northern lights. Churchill Wild did a great job of managing our experience from the moment we arrived in Winnipeg until our return. Can’t say enough good things about his trip!
