There were good aspects to CanadInn Fort Garry but many poor aspects. The good: room service, pretty nice room, staff was friendly and helpful. The not-so-good; I was on the second floor right across from the elevator. Kids ran up and down the long hallway all day shirking and laughing as they were enjoying g the pool. I tried to convince myself this was a joyful sound and to not be bothered by it. There were the drunk kids on a Saturday night at 3 am fighting outside my door. And then no -stop coming and goings and "dinging" from the elevator. It's a very noisy experience.

The air conditioning was not working. It was 84 degrees F in our room at bedtime. A maintenance person reset the air conditioning in our room but delivered a fan at the same time which made it obvious that he didn’t expect the reset to work. It did not. We requested and received a second fan for the kids small room. We had a very uncomfortable night which saw two of us sleeping on the floor because the kids couldn’t sleep in the small room with bunkbeds as it was stiflingly hot even with the fan. In the morning we requested a free breakfast as compensation for the terrible stay and were provided with a $10 gift voucher for each member of our family which gave us adults the choice of cold cereal or pancakes. The kids had a slightly broader range of choices. My oldest grandson ate his mostly chocolate chip, chocolate chip pancakes. My grandaughter found the waffles tough, dry and unappetizing. The rest of us found the pancakes tough and dry and unappetizing. The coffee was terrible. The one redeeming thing was the waterslide. The kids enjoyed that.

We recently stayed at this hotel. I booked two rooms for four guests. We checked in and then went to Celebrations Dinner Theatre (which was EXCELLENT). However the rooms were VERY disappointing, especially compared to our numerous other pre-Covid stays at this hotel. Room #1-regular room with two queen beds. There was poop in the toilet and soiled linens on one bed. So either the cleaning staff left it that way (doubtful) or someone gained entry after they left the "sanitized" sign on the door. GROSS. They moved us to another room. Room #2-After Celebrations, we all went to this room to hang out, and the two guests from room #1 left to go back to their room at 1:00 AM. I went to lock the deadbolt on our room. The deadbolt didn't lock. Security came down, first guard could not get the door to lock. He called another, larger man to the room. Second guard takes a look, then LIFTS the door up by the handle and sort of hip checks it closed and while still lifting it locks the door. "Can you do that?" He asked. It was, in hindsight, a little funny. Bottom line I could not manage locking it that way, I'm not anywhere near as strong as him. First guard asks if I really wanted to lock the door. A woman, in a room where I was staying alone, with my 17 year old daughter. Knowing what I did about room #1. "Yes it is absolutely necessary ". Soooo... you guessed it. I had to pack up everything and move to another room down the hall. It took about half an hour. Last thing guard number 1 said was "Please make sure you call me when you've moved. And make sure you lock the door on the first room." I gave him a puzzled look and asked if the doors didn't lock when they closed. And he then said to make sure that the door closed all the way. Made me wonder if this was maybe a common problem at the hotel. After having that experience it took me until about 3:00 AM or so to fall asleep, kinda shaken up. Ugh. On checkout the following morning, the lady at the counter asked how our stay was. I answered truthfully, after about 5 hours sleep, that it was pretty bad, actually. She then said something like, oh yeah I heard about the move from Room #1, was there something else? I said yes, at which point the on duty manager I guess overhead the conversation from around the corner. She listened to the story and apologized profusely. She offered an upgrade on our next stay, and then afterwards a free night stay. But to be honest I don't think I would feel safe staying here again. She later followed up by email, after talking to her manager, I assume (she said she was going to check with her boss about what could be done). And again offered me an upgrade the next time we stayed there. So... I was offered the opportunity to spend MORE money at a hotel I currently don't believe is safe, after a really disappointing stay. This was supposed to be a reward for my hard working small business' employees after a very busy summer, and, like all small businesses, a rough road with Covid. Instead it looks like I took them to a hotel with ill repaired, (lifting, bubbled carpets, peeling paint, parts coming off in the shower to name a few things I noticed), dirty, unsafe rooms. That is definitely NOT what I paid for. I was embarrassed to have brought my employees here. Bottom line would I encourage anyone to stay here? Unless they renovate and improve things it's a HARD no for me.

We showed up 2 hours before checkin and was accommodated to get our room a little earlier the front desk lady was pleasant to talk too and have no problems checkin and out. She was the stand out for our stay! We stayed in the one bedroom suite it was nice but I feel we over paid by about 40 dollars a night to stay. We did have the breakfast buffet at Altos it wasn’t anything to write home about the serving staff was nice and made sure we always had coffee. The hotel was fully booked and we still didn’t have to wait for anything while there, we also enjoyed playmakers lounge for a couple of hours. Beer was cold and VLTs was available to us. We will return next year for the Banjo bowl and probably stay here again!

We were going to the Banjo Bowl. Booked hotel weeks in advance. King suite. $300! Called three days before game and said there was damage to some units and we were being moved to a different hotels miles away, downtown. We booked this hotel because of location and free shuttle to the game. No discount for our inconvenience, no offer to pay for a taxi for shuttle to the game, just a $20 voucher for food and drinks at their hotel bar (not even the place we are now staying). Said this was unacceptable but they don’t care. I’m sure Joe will write a scripted response apologizing for the inconvenience … it was him who approved the $20. Big whoop. Will never stay here again. Others have also been moved so I doubt there is actually damage. Shady and terrible customer service!

Dear Erin, Please accept our apology for this inconvenience. I can most certainly tell you that many of our guestrooms sustained significant damage from a recent storm which required immediate repair to occur. Our team was focused on trying to find accommodations for our incoming guests in the city as many hotels in Winnipeg were sold out that weekend. I understand your comments and how we let you down, unfortunately this occurrence was unexpected and out of our control. I do hope to make this up to in the future if given the opportunity. All the best Erin, I hope to hear from you. Joe Sacco - Vice President of Operations

100% just a fabulous stay with a Hotel Service Staff that was friendly, helpful, welcoming and enjoyable. Simple things like the front desk person lending us her personal umbrella to get through the rainy day to our car to pull it up our front under the covering at the hotel entrance. The restaurant staff, just super friendly and helpful with breakfast and our late evening pre order, all packaged up and waiting for us even after they had closed for the night. Very nice. The Indoor Waterslide and pool and hot tub area was a Big Hit with all of the Kids, both young and old. We had family from all over gathering for an event and the CanadInns Ft Garry was a perfect location to get together for our several days in Winnipeg. Thanks CanadInns People for your great service and being a part of our Family Gathering in August 2022!!

We had to book at the last minute. The room rate was pretty high, considering the condition of the facility. There were all kinds of strange people just milling about the parking areas. Lots of people standing outside leaning against the walls and getting high. You smell skunk weed everywhere you go in Canada - that's just the way it is, but the stench was constant and fairly prevalent here. Our rooms both had a musty smell blended with weed wafting in from other rooms. The room was generally outdated. The carpet was loose and coming up. There was a lot of stains on the curtains that appeared to be blood (seriously, not kidding). There was a lot of security, and they patrolled often. We also deduced that this is a residential hotel, which has permanent residents, as there was nursing staff visiting their patients. We found this odd. Also, they charge a $200 (CAD) room deposit, per room. This should have been a tip off about what we were getting into. The staff was friendly, and generally helpful - but more than one person told us they were new.

Stayed here while in town for a sports tournament. Check in was very smooth, front desk staff very friendly. Rooms were large and updated. Very clean and shower pressure was good. Beds very comfortable as well. Pool area could use some updates but the kids loved it. Hot tub and kids pool were both closed. All staff I interacted with were very friendly. And cleaning staff actually came and made up the room after night 1! Not sure the last time a hotel actually cleaned the room during my stay. The only drawback was the main areas of the hotel. They need some updating and TLC. All in all a great stay. I would consider this hotel again if I was in the city.
