We had a fantastic stay from start to finish. Checking was easy and the clerk was amazing. We booked through a third party provider which booked us the wrong type of room. We were upgraded with zero issues. The room was clean and beautiful with a very comfortable bed. The restaurant was amazing, food and service! We will definitely stay here again and plan to visit the spa!
I had the opportunity to stay in the Hotel Fort Garry while on business, and my expectations were high because I only stayed in the hotel once before in 1974. The hotel hasn’t changed with the exception of the rooms that are appointed to the best standards for business travelers. The staff are professional, friendly and relaxed while helping to keep their guests safe in light of the C-19 pandemic. The Hotel Fort Garry is still one of the three finest hotels that I have experienced around the world.
Hotel Fort Garry is marketed and priced like an upscale hotel but in reality it is not. There is no room service available due to staff shortages (according to the hotel). The Air Conditioning is also shut off until June 1. Given the rooms are completely sealed like a hospital which makes it extremely uncomfortable and stale, I found the conditions intolerable. After 1 night I had enough and asked to check out. On a positive note, the food at the restaurant was well made and the staff was all professional. The manager also compensated me for my inconvenience with extra choice rewards points. I was not charged for the unused portion of my reservation. The beds here are comfortable. If they can build on the positives, this could be a great hotel. Unfortunately I cannot take the risk of returning here until these basic points are addressed as my money and time are too valuable to deal with these conditions when I am on the road!…
I took my wife to the Fort Garry Hotel this past weekend for her birthday. We went to Ten Spa for a couples massage, had dinner in the Oval Room, and slept in an Executive Suite. The Ten Spa experience was terribly disappointing. It started in the change room. The steam shower dripped hot scalding water on you while you sat on an uncomfortably hot bench. From there, my wife and I meet in a crowded and loud area awaiting our therapists. Large groups of people talking very loudly…not a great way to prepare for a massage. From there, we walked down a flight of stairs, down a long corridor past cleaning carts and construction material…in our flip flops and bath robes. We ended up in a nicely appointed massage room, but unfortunately, one of the loud groups of people was located in a room across the hall and we had to hear their comings and goings. After returning to the meeting area following the massage, we were encouraged to go to the quiet room. It was much quieter than the meeting room, but clients were on their phones checking who knows what. Not a relaxing way to end the massage either. After the massage, we had time to relax in our room. The room was a spacious, two room suite, decorated with a combination of beautiful antique furniture and an odd assortment of modern art work. We were quite thirsty, so the bottle of water in the room was quite welcome. Unfortunately, we were charged $6.00. Did I mention this was an Executive Suite? For dinner, we made our way to the Oval Room. It was very crowded and loud, as well. The menu was incredibly over priced, as was the wine list. Our dinner for two cost us as much as our room, but still not as much as our massage. Oh yeah, and I had to pay $18.00 for overnight parking, too. Very disappointing for an incredible Winnipeg land mark. I will not stay here again.…
Since our cruise was canceled, my travel friends and I decided to do a staycation and stay at a hotel with character. What a disappointment. On top of the room rental was paying for parking, expensive (!) breakfasts, no gym or pool, no access to the supposedly charming 7th floor, no hotel tours (to view the interesting bits), no gift shop, smaller rooms that couldn't fit a love seat, and to top it off they didn't want to "interrupt" my 8 night stay with housekeeping!?!? My floor was not cleaned nor my bedding changed in 8 nights of stay. I could have paid the same and gotten a suite elsewhere with daily housekeeping. Overall impression...has lost the character and polish but still trying to charge for it. Not worth the cost. Should have gotten a suite elsewhere. Won't make the same mistake twice!…
