This place is located in the downtown area and within walking distance to the exchange district, major shops and bus stops. The bus from the airport stops across the road from the hotel which is convenient.

However this is more of a hotel than a hostel. The rooms were clean and spacious. There is a washing machine and dryer available for use.

The daily breakfast was alright however it did contain a lot of sweet foods.

The staff were friendly and willing to help however I found they need to upskill their knowledge of the local area regarding tourist sights/ restaurants etc.

I've stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza over the Grey Cup weekend and can't complain for under $200 for 2 nights in a limited hotel market. Given I didn't book until July when rooms we're less available for location and price I wanted. The room was a little rough on the edges with cheap furniture, dated bathroom and cheap model of TV. The staff we're friendly and hotel was downtown that made my Winnipeg exploring easy by foot. Staff was able to hold my bags before check-in since I pre-checked in early after arrival. Also convenient that's near buses for airport and the very long bus to and from Investors Group Field for the football game. Attached restaurant is your typical diner and only had one meal that I couldn't complain about. It was passable for a budget room to give me a place to stay during the Grey Cup. Nothing much else which is fine if you don't have much to spend or want to spend on lodging.

I couldn't book a women's dorm room bed online, I had to speak to several staff on the phone and call the manager twice before I got a room confirmation (for a men's dorm room). Luckily for me the manager emailed me the confirmation because it took more than half an hour to check in at 930 the night I arrived.

And the dorm rooms have no locks. Ya have to look it from inside the room.

Room Tip: Maybe the private rooms come with locks and keys? Sketchy for a solo female.

Noticed my bed was full of bed bugs when I woke up, about a day later my chest and face are covered in bites. The hotel staff did nothing when I notified them of this. Do not go to the hotel if you value your health.

I reserved a king room a month in advance when I got there all they had was a double bed as their largest
The windows were sealed shut
There was a strange smell
The building needed lots of repairs
The room was beyond gross there was urine with hair on the wall beside the headboard
I stayed for 10 mins and called around for another room
When I left and returned my keys I was not given a refund of the 100.00 I paid for the night

I came to Winneg to study and had to stay at the hostel for four nights before I could move to my flat and it was terrible. The staff is unfriendly and incompetent. I already payed half of the price in advance and they wanted me to pay the full amount again.
I booked a room with one bed and got a room with two double beds. The room hadn't been cleaned after the guests before me left it. There still were trash and the beds weren't made.
The bathroom was dirty as well.
But the worst were the nights. You could here people drinking, fighting, screaming and shouting all the night. It sounded like they would like to kill each other, all night long. Sleeping was impossible.

I would NEVER NEVER NEVER recommend this Hostel. It is awful! Do not go there.

The location of the hotel was very bad and the hotel is very outdated. They make you pay $10 for parking for one day, and I honestly didn't even know if my car would get broken into or not. Did not feel safe while bringing shopping bags back into hotel. Did not feel safe walking outside of the hotel to my car, to put my luggage back into it. Very sketchy people walking around the hotel asking for smokes. While packing my car back up at 11pm after deciding to leave after arriving 7 hours prior, a drunk girl came up to us asking for headphones. Bed felt like you were laying on top of a cardboard box. There was a large painting in the room but it was sitting against the wall, not hanging on the wall. Lounge music was VERY loud starting at 10pm. Did not want to stay the night, especially with my 7 month old daughter and young sister there with me. Some lady outside told me that the place gets very rowdy at around 1am so I'm very glad we left before that. I chose to drive home at 12am (I live 6 hours away in Regina) rather than staying the night. You get what you pay for!

I do not recommend this hotel mainly because I was overcharged for my room and the manager was uncooperative and disinterested in refunding my money. I was charged one and a half times the normal rate, or $120.18 for a single queen room plus parking for one night. For that money I could have stayed at a nice hotel. The manager has been very evasive of my refund requests so I have taken the issue up with my bank. I definitely feel like they are running a scam. The hotel itself is not terrible, but it's well below average. The hairdryer did not work, the soap dispenser was empty, and the so-called game room was joke as it consisted of a broken pool table and a foosball table littered with junk. The room wasn't filthy, but there were areas in the bathroom that had not been wiped-down thoroughly and some of the surfaces in the roomy were greasy - unacceptable. Finally, the location is not the best, and I saw several transients roaming around the property. All considered this is a terrible hotel (it's not a hostel as it is advertised).

Stayed here in February 2015 and enjoyed our stay very much. The hospitality from the owners was exceptional (who even helped us out when we had some car troubles.) The rooms were nice, clean, and comfortable. There is also a good restaurant attached. Highly recommended for the budget category. Make sure you have good directions as street names can change.

I was treated like family and the food was great. They were very accommodating and fed me and my friend at midnight, even though the restaurant was closed. Each staff member was really friendly and the owner was so motherly and amiable. Shoutout goes to the two Sunnys and Neesha! I was here for a conference.
