Honestly, the only good thing about this park is that is right near downtown and has wifi. Other than that, you’re camping in a Walmart parking lot. The light pollution from the city and the glaring street lights add a nice touch.
Our last stop with a caravan group of RVs. Easy in/out for big rigs after negotiating the gate st entrance. Full hook ups, pull throughs long enough for RV with towed vehicle. Okay space between rigs, sites level on gravel. Easy access to Rockwood park and Saint John.
Rockwood was very good at getting is a spot for our 22 RVs. 30 amp service, very close to the city. Actually, part of the park overlooks the city and harbor. Clean washrooms and showers. Close to all the cities sights
Was treated like an idiot at the kiosk entering the park with inane questions. Didn't think too much of it. I had made a reservation in advance and had driven a long way from out of province. Had a site circled on a map of the park and found it. Set up my tent. Go out for a day adventure and come back to an entire extended family set up on my site with my tent and belongings pushed to the side into the grass. When I asked them why they were on my site they told me it was THEIR site because they were friends with the owner and can use it whenever they want and I can **** off. I took my circled map to the person at the kiosk and explained. They chuckled and told me too bad for me. I sat for the better part of an hour while they tried to find me another place to pitch my tent and I ended up in a little ratty corner with 2 roads going by and a streetlight beaming directly on me. Between the cars driving past and my tent lit up all night I basically got no sleep. I left the site the next morning, found a parking spot in the city and slept in my car before starting the trek home.…
Large RV park, in the middle of a park with a lake and close to St John, New Brunswick. At the top of the CG there is an overlook with a great view of St John. Loot to do, clean and spacious sites with great showers.
When visiting St. John with our travel trailer, we chose to stay at Rockwood for two nights. The location is perfect for getting groceries and getting in and out of the city. People have commented on how noisy the place is given the proximity to the highway and rail--but that's what we expected given our desire to be close to St. John. Sites large, flat, well kept. My main issue is that there is NO ACCESSIBLE WIFI. Although they say there is, even with our wifi extender and repeater I was unable to even SEE the wifi. It's only available if you SIT in the laundry room. To me this is truly false advertising. WIFI should be removed from the website as a feature of this campsite.
The top advantage for us is the campground is in the city, so close to lots of options. We chose to go the weekend of the Saint John Exhibition, but also visited Market Square and the Cherry Brook Zoo (all within 15-20 min.) Everything was well kept and worked well i.e. washrooms, showers, RV hookups. Also, the rate was reasonable, $42 taxes in. The campground is hilly, so you can choose between open sites with lots of breeze or well treed for shade. Some of the sites are small, so backing into them can be more of a challenge. Also, most lanes to the sites are gravel. The park is large, so there are numerous trails for hiking/biking. Just before the campground, there is a pavillion, which has a restaurant for those nights you'd rather eat out than cook (we didn't take advantage, so can't comment on the food). Tim's is only a short drive away for those looking for morning coffee.…
Never good when staff send you to a site that's already occupied but matters improved once I got settled. Would have appreciated a level site but it is large and commodious with picnic table made useless by fog and rain. Multiple electrical and water hookups and dumping station supplied. Campsites with picnic shelters overlook the highway and Irving's busy marshalling rail yard. Laundry expensive at $2 per wash and dry. Aging washrooms, one closed this seaoon. Gravel interior roads for the most part. A rare city centre park adjoins with trails, wildlife viewing, fishing, and other attractions. Tourist INformation centre with marine acquarum and live painted trurtles. Neaby Lilies Restaurant and Workers Museum. Pricey canoe, kayak, paddleboard, hydrobike rental centre adjoins the pond. Health Spa is high end priced. Monday night movies shown on the side wall screen beside Lily's cafe. Extensive gardens and nearby community gardens. Historic Neighbourhood in walking distance and shopping and tourist activities plus restaurants a short drive distant. Parking in uptown is dicey. Wi-Fi in the park is sub-standard.…
We booked for two days and ended up staying three. Yes it is essentially a gravel parking lot as was mentioned previously but it did keep the mess down being brought into the trailer. Nice walking trails nearby. There isn’t a fire pit on each of the sites but I did see a group locate themselves onto an empty site that did have a fire ring and had their fire there. We did use the laundry facilities and had an issue with a dryer not drying our clothes, once it was reported a repairman showed up and made the repairs so it’s nice to see they keep on top of things. All in all it’s a good place to camp and explore Saint John and surrounding area.
We stayed for one night and were glad it was only one night. If you go make sure you use a regulator on your water hose as the pressure is really high. The electric isn’t reliable as our power popped 3 times. We weren’t using much power at all when it happened -it was cold so we weren’t even using a/c. Bottom line, except for the power issue, this is an adequate place to stopover if u need a campground in St. John. Rockwood Park seems really nice, but the campground needs some work.
