Visited this B&B for one night in August. Overall the stay was pleasant. The room was clean but cluttered with bric a brac (I think this is intentional); the bathroom cramped. The breakfast was great, served by some very friendly and pleasant staff. We had poached eggs, but croissants and other baked goods were available, as was fruit salad and...

Nice, historic Bed and Breakfast which is well maintained. Karen was a good host. We didn't get to meet Ralph because he was out of town. The rooms were clean and spacious. The breakfast was delicious. Our only negative was the shower which was hard to maneuver and get to the right temperature.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Homeport; Ralph and Karen are the most friendly Innkeepers I've met on our travels. It's a wonderful location over looking the city (when the fog lifts); convenient to the Digby Ferry as well as attractions around St John. Just wish we had longer to stay. There are a few areas of the inn that...

If you're fond of antique and curiosities, then you're at the right address. Host Ralph has collected a lot of stuff, like model ships and paintings. It's all displayed in this huge house, that used to be two houses which are now connected. Ralph is also a good story teller and cook. His Eggs Benedict for breakfast were great! His...

Comfortable big room and bed - spotlessly clean. Good breakfast. Ralph and his lovely wife very helpful with info, directions etc. View over the city not great - the motorway between it and you. A little far out of town - a 30min walk which we did several times which was fine but not handy to pop back during the...

Hi All Thanks for the review Yes we are historic built in 1858 and maintaining the character of these two fantastic old mansions. Not sure if the quirky is the B&B or us but will take that as a compliment as we are trying not to be another boring, bland econo box hotel. As to location yes we are 20...

3 years ago my family and I traveled to Prince Edward islands to celebrate my mothers 50th birthday and on our way there we stayed at the homeport B&B! I loved the rich history of the city & the B&B shared in part of the history of St.Johns!! We had an amazing time and the customer service was top notch!...

Thanks for the kind comments. This is the reason we all try so hard at Homeport. It is to make memories that you remember well after the trip is over and then make the effort to comment on three years later. Looks like we did our jobs well Thank you Ralph

This is a place which will delight many, and frustrate some. A true old home (actually two historic homes joined together), it sits on the hill above Saint John, in the residential part of town overlooking a working port. Very close to the Ferry. The property is very large and is more of a "lodge" type of a facility rather...

Thanks for the review. You nailed the spirit of what it is to be a B&B. Thank you. yes we are all different That is the point. and also correct on the maintenance- an ongoing quest to be sure. I actually think our rooms are all pretty much up to date and condition excepting one that does need new wall...

Felt good about this B&B from the moment we walked in. House is restored beautifully, but is not over decorated. Owner spent time with us to explain how to see the reversing rapids. More important, he helped us get a medical appt for my husband. Breakfasts were good, B&B is large enough so can meet many different guests over breakfast...

We arrived later than we expected (but called ahead to let Ralph know),and when we arrived Ralph met us and showed us and told us about this beautiful home. He showed us our room which was the Rose Room very quaint and cozy. Loved the robes and old bathtub. Room was spacious with a small tv., but when in St....

This is a beautiful, nicely restored and decorated historic house. We picked it because it is located very close to the Reversing Rapids on the St John River. Ralph was very accommodating. We arrived fairly late in the evening, and he helped us find a restaurant that served dinner late after showing us our room.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set high on a hill with a commanding view of the Bay of Fundy, and the Historic Port and Skyline of Saint John the Homeport Historic B&B/Inn c1858 provides the perfect setting to relax and enjoy the gracious ambiance of Canada's oldest incorporated city. The twin homes were built in 1858,and were constructed for a prominent shipbuilding family whose boat yard was located a few hundred yards below on the harbor tidal flats. Its unique Italianate architecture reflects the opulence of the time with very large bright windows and rooms, 10 foot ceilings, free standing spiral stair cases, and detailed wood work rosettes, finials and columns. Of particular interest is a pair of carved figure heads that have stood sentinel in the formal twin parlors for nearly 150 years. Come stop for a while and enjoy these magnificently restored Mansions and be pampered in Five Star luxury. ... more   less
