Detailed Reviews
We stayed for 5 nights and were assigned a most unique and spacious room with beautiful woodwork and a nice jacuzzi. The hotel took extra measures to sanitize the rooms and common areas during the pandemic. Our room was sealed on the door and even the TV remote control was placed inside a sealed plastic bag with our arrival date written on it. A clean and comfortable room. Despite the pandemic, there was an assortment of breakfast food items available. All processed food was individually wrapped for safety reasons and there were brown bags to carry items to the rooms. Murray Premises is located next to Water street and in easy walking distance to many downtown shops and restaurants/pubs. We really appreciated the hotel's free parking. Special thanks to Steve, Adam and Allie who graciously assisted us while we were there. They were most helpful. Murray Premises will definitely be our hotel of choice every time we visit St John's in the future.

I have stayed here a few times. What’s most attractive about this hotel is the price and the location. You can get a decent price under 150 and it’s walking distance from everything downtown. There dozens of eclectic bars, cafes, pubs, and restaurants to please all appetites. There is some Main Street shopping there as well. Lots hidden gems. George street is a 2 min walk. You are right across the street from the water front so you take in harbour front walk or a stroll down Water street. They have free continental breakfast included. There is parking available but not sure if it free. It is classified as a boutique hotel which means there are lots of business inside the hotel including ev-oo restaurant. See reviews. The hotel could be called rustic and antique. It is quite dated b it Th he made attempts to upgrade the rooms with whirlpool tubs, electric fireplace and towel warmers. They also come with Alexa in the rooms as well. Internet seems decent. Staff are friendly and reliable. Don’t bring your bathing suit or workout gear as there is no pool or fitness area but options are available located close to the hotel. The view from the fourth floor is pretty awesome but it’s like that floor was an after thought as the rickety old elevator only goes to third floor and you have to climb the steps to fourth floor. Not that I couldn’t use the exercise but it meant if wanted to go downstairs I had leave a few minutes early to meet up with people and at the end of the day it’s a long trek to get to your room. They have a convenient little food and beverage area when you first walk in where you can get some snacks and beverages. The room itself was really nice. Updated bathroom and very comfy bed. Squeaky floor boards so being quiet is a task late at night but nothing crazy. The hotel was empty for 2 of the 3 days I was there. Will definitely stay again for lots of the positive reasons.

Hello! Thank you so much for writing a review about your stay at our property. I am so happy to hear that you did enjoy your stay, and that you hope to stay with us again in the future! I think your review was a great reflection of a stay here at the Murray Premises - lots of surrounding businesses to walk to, old world charm with modern amenities. We definitely understand that the 4th floor can be tricky without an elevator. Due to the historic nature of the building (we are 175 years old this year!), the ceilings on the fourth floor cannot accommodate elevator access. But no problem, if stairs are an issue we have lots of other rooms that have elevator access. and that are just as beautiful and cozy. Feel free to request elevator access and we will do our best to accommodate. Thanks again for your kind words, I hope you are staying safe and healthy.

We loved this place. It has a great location and excellent front desk staff. We had room 304, which is a "suite" on the third floor overlooking the patio off Water Street. Basically, it's attic space, so the ceilings slant down towards the outside wall and there's a lot of unusable space. Next time we'll ask for a second floor room.
The breakfast room is pretty crowded and served an elevated continental breakfast: bagels, croissants, toast, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereals and hard boiled eggs.
The hotel has a laundromat in a separate building on Water Street; ask the front desk for the key.
We really liked the location. There are bars and restaurants all around, and you can exit from the front or rear of the hotel depending on where you're going.

Thanks again, and I hope you're staying safe and healthy.

My wife and I got an executive suite for our 10th anniversary. The rooms were very clean and smelt nice. A little seal on the door when cleaned, and another on the toilet. Fantastic service! The desk staff was very cheery, and provided wine glasses and silverware when requested. The old wooden beams are a big feature of the room. Just gorgeous. The jacuzzi is really nice, and has a high volume faucet so fills very quickly, I'd guess a 1" pipe. Two robes were hung on the closet. Electric fireplace doesn't make heat so the AC isn't fighting with it. There's a modest tv with Rogers cable above the fireplace that slides out on a dolley thing for easier viewing. The bathroom is amazing too. The stand up shower is massive, and has two wall shower heads. I'd say that they're about 3 and 4 feet up the wall. There's a towel warmer as well on a timer that blows warm air down your towels. Turn that on before you get a shower, and having a warm towel when you get out is so nice. Because of the covid pandemic, the normal breakfast room is closed and there's a smaller room with a selection of individual wrapped pastries, cereal bars, yogurts, fruits and juices. The proximity to the downtown St. John's scene is un beatable. There's a courtyard restaurant called EVOO that opens on to water st. And with the summer pedestrian mall, it's a great place to wander up and down the street, dropping your bags back to the hotel as needed.

What a horrible experience. Iclve stayed here 4 times, myself and two of my co workers. The first time, me and a co worker went down to get our skip the dishes order, while going back up my other co worker went down to get an extra towel. Within minutes a lady came up and told us at 8:30 in the morning that we had to leave because there was 3 of us?? I was not informed there wasn't aloud to be 3 of us. We were there all night, no problems the man doing night shift was very nice and polite. We just woke up to get food and were kicked out? The second and third time there was also 3 of us, no issues. The man over night was still very nice. The third time I stayed for 2 nights, saturday-monday. We were not loud, we were not problematic what so ever, at 1 o'clock in the morning on night two we were told that there can't be 3 people after 11 and one of us had to leave, I asked her to give me 10 minutes she said no and kept the door open?? Complete intrusion of my privacy!! This is the same lady as the first time, very rude. No where in the paper I signed did it mention this and why wait until the middle of the second night to do this? Horrible service!! Not to mention the stains on the bed when I arrived and the beer stoppers I found, I don't even drink beer. The room was not cleaned very well at all, I paid $500 for these two nights and wasn't loud, never caused any problems I don't know why I was told one person had to leave in the middle of the second night.

Very historic and unique hotel situated right in downtown St John's. Our room was huge and the decor was almost like being in a ski lodge, with a fireplace and wood beams on the ceiling. We had a very comfortable king size bed and the bathroom was amazing!! A jetted tub with a huge shower, we were a little surprised that the wall was glass and totally visible from our bed! The toilet was private, thankfully, and we loved the heated floors. Free wifi was fast and breakfast was good considering all the covid precautions. Our only issue was with parking, we had a terrible time finding how to get into the parking lot with the summer street fest going on and arriving on Saturday afternoon, when we finally did find it there was no parking spots available. They did give us a pass for the parking garage down the road but it could only be used once and when we did use it, the pass didn't work. We were able to find a spot the next day on site. If not for that I would have given them an excellent review

I stayed at the Murray Premises for a 3 week period in March of 2018. I know a little late to review but I don't expect much has changed since and I feel its helpful in this time of uncertainly to help by way of a review at least. The staff were very accommodating and extended me a conference room for some meetings at no cost. The location is right downtown and the gypsy tea room is attached directly to the hotel. Very convenient in the chilly St Johns winter weather. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will return.

Staff were very friendly and had us checked in in no time. The room was clean and spacious with lots of character as you would expect in this historic building. The bed in our standard king room was comfortable. Towel warmers were a nice feature as was the full size jetted bathtub. The only suggestion that I would have is that the tvs could use an upgrade. The TV in the room was small at 32 inches, low set for viewing on the dresser, and had just cable channels available. It would be a great asset to upgrade to a larger, wall mounted, smart TV. We have stayed in other nearby hotels that have had smart tvs that you could cast from your device to watch various streaming services if you subscribe. This would be my only hesitation in booking this hotel in future. The weather in St. John's can be unpredictable so having an option to watch a movie cozied up in this lovely room with the electric fireplace going, would be ideal. Otherwise a great stay.

My first (but not last) visit there. Great location. Fantastic staff. The room was wonderful. The room did look out over The Gypsy Tea Room beach bar and the music played until 11:00 two nights, but after walking all day I slept through it. Even if I was awake, the music was good so wouldn't have bothered me.

Hey Sharon, thank you for your review! We appreciate your kind words about our boutique property. Summer in downtown has so muc, and our location really lets guest explore all downtown has to offer. Consider us your urban basecamp! Our friends at the Gypsy Tea Room (Murray's Beach and Murray's Landing) had amazing food and entertainment in their outdoor areas, but we understand that it can be heard in some of the rooms overlooking those areas. I am pleased to hear that although you could hear their music, that it did not impact your rest. If we get the opportunity to host you again, let us know if you would prefer a room away (although those outdoor spaces are seasonal) and we would be happy to accommodate. Thanks again, and I hope you are staying safe and healthy!

Perfect downtown location and spotlessly clean rooms with windows that open for fresh air. Book directly with the hotel for their summer special which includes a $50 gift card to two restaurants adjacent to the hotel courtyard. Staff were tremendously kind and accommodating. I changed another booking to stay at this boutique hotel an extra two nights. Some rooms overlook the hotel courtyard which has music until 11 pm but other rooms are quieter so put a request in for what you'd like.

Unfortunately, we had a ride from a co worker that was in town.
Would think so but would check with hotel
We went the first 2 weeks in October; Great! Cool with beautiful Fall colours.
Don't know if St John's experiences the misquito and Black Fly issues of Minnesota. If so, would recommend, 2nd week of September (still warm) thru first 2 weeks in October.
We love St John's and plan to return!
