We spent five days at the lodge in late August 2021. We did four hikes during our stay, exploring a variety of landscapes. The hikes alllowed us to experience pristine wilderness and fascinating geological features created by the last glaciation. The low tundra groundcover afforded easy walking, and the hills provided stunning vistas. The area has fewer lakes than the forested shield country to the south, so we could walk virtually anywhere. Eskers are a common feature of the area, which provide excellent and interesting opportunities for travel by foot. We saw sign of grizzly bear, moose, caribou, wolverine, fox and other four footed creatures. We also found artifacts from indigenous occupation of the area from pre-European contact. The lodge provided a comfortable place to share stories at the end of the day, and the food was generous and delicious. The hospitality and service was top notch. The cabins are comfortable and spacious, with plenty of hooks to hang and dry wet gear. The lodge is a great place to base yourself for day hikes to explore an area of the world that few people get to know. If you are looking for a destination for day hikes in absolutely pristine wilderness, Peterson's Point Lake Lodge is itl…
From the moment I landed in Yellowknife until the moment I left I was treated like family. Margaret, Amanda and Chad are the real deal, theses are professionals at this fishing experience. when I got back to NS someone asked me how many fish did you catch and I responded I stopped counting after 16 and that was only day 3. My sister the kitchen boss is awesome but I've been eating her food for a long time and yes it is good. George is the greatest and everyone at the lodge is helpful and warm. Thank you Anthony for taking me to the fish. And a special that you to Margaret , you are the best,m hopefully I will make it back! Cheers Steve
From the moment I spoke with Margaret Peterson, I knew we were in good hands. This fishing lodge is run by a lovely family, Margaret, Amanda & Chad who look after you in a first class fashion. They are always looking to make your trip even better. As we prepared for our trip, Amanda promptly answered all of our questions with her creative e mails. Chad is a first class guide. All of the fishing guides were most professional. They took us to the "big ones" which we caught and released. Guide John coached us as we reeled in many large fish.WIth Chad's support I reeled in a 30 pounder.!!! As my husband & I had not been fishing in a number of years we lacked proper equipment which the Peterson's supplied. Tanya, the cook provided us with delicious breakfast & dinner. There were also always treats on the counter. Scrumptious shore lunches were prepared by the guides daily. Guests were welcome to contribute. With help from the guides, one of the other guests did most of the preparation as he chooses to do each year. Each late afternoon was completed by a friendly gathering of guests and staff in the comfortable dining room and lounge. This made for a friendly family like atmosphere which we enjoyed. With a special thanks to George for contributing to our very pleasant visit. We feel that we made some new friends on this trip. We hope to see them next year.…
This is a great friendly fishing lodge to have a chance to fish for very big Lake trout, I caught a 21lb. And it was so cool to release it back to God's waters to live on and reproduce, what a feelinvg?!!!!
I was greeted at the airport by the owner and shown around Yellowknifes places of interest,.I was totally in there hands, since I am 67yrs young.I was helped in and out of boats every time I went fishing .A royal treatment and greatfully appreciated. These folks would bend over backwards for me and my son .I cannot say enough about the meals the chef at the lodge is from Nova Scotia and has a few great dishes up her sleeve, and believe me she is an awesome addition to dining while at the lodge.
We just got back from an early September visit to this lodge. The fall colors on the tundra were amazing. The guides were so wonderful taking care of our every need and taking us everywhere including hikes and boat rides on the lake. This year there were no caribou. But the scenery was spectacular. Amanda, Margaret, and Chad run this place so well. They contacted us ahead of the trip to make sure we got our flights booked timely and to make us aware of any other things we needed to do. I did feel somewhat restricted by the obsession with bears and the requirement that one could only leave camp with a guide with a gun. Having camped and canoed in that area of the Arctic with no guns, I found the concern for our safety a bit zealous. The aurora was absolutely spectacular one night. You will never regret spending the big bucks to visit this bit of Eden.…
The photography workshop at Peterson’s Point Lake Lodge (led by Robert Berdan, an accomplished nature photographer) during the first week of September was very enjoyable and rewarding. After seeing splendid aurora displays in Yellowknife, we flew 200 miles north in a floatplane to the lodge, which is perfectly located on Point Lake, a remote unspoiled setting. The cabins are very comfortable, and the lodge/living room area is spacious, warm, and inviting. The meals, prepared by chef Norma, were delicious and abundant. The eight of us took daily excursions with our four superb guides. Experiencing the taiga and tundra, especially with the onset of fall colors, was a treat. Caribou, a white arctic wolf, a muskrat, and eagles were some of the wildlife seen. We caught large lake trout, which were much enjoyed at a lunch cookout. Margaret and Amanda Peterson took great care of us during our entire stay in Yellowknife and Point Lake. We had a great arctic adventure.…
Splendid Arctic Adventure From the moment we stepped off the plane in Yellowknife to our final parting, the Peterson family looked after us with warmth and care. We had a day and a half in Yellowknife, going out to watch the striking aurora on two nights and seeing some of the town and its surroundings. Our group, including four guides, boarded a floatplane and flew for 1 1/4 hours to Point Lake, not far from the Arctic circle. As we flew, we could see the change in terrain from forested areas to the tundra with scattered stands of a few trees. Peterson’s Point Lake Lodge consists of a number of cabins, outhouses, a cabin with a sauna, another with a shower and the large kitchen/dining/living room building. Amazingly, there is even WiFi. Having a guide for every two guests is a great comfort and source of information in this ecosystem that has grizzlies, caribou, wolves and fox. It allowed great flexibility if we wanted to go at a different pace or meander in another area. For me, watching a white wolf cross from one valley to the next was an incredible sighting. Each cabin has a cozy bed or beds, table & chairs, dressers, a sink with a drum of water, and a stove that efficiently heated the room when one lit it. The food was good home cooking, tasty and plentiful. Cranberries, blueberries, crowberries and cloudberries picked around the lodge made their way into pies and compotes. Freshly baked cookies in a covered cake plate were available all the time, as was tea & coffee. It was so considerate to have the cook provide for the food preferences of guests and guides. The lodge has been a labor of love for the whole Peterson family. The guides for our trip have been at the lodge numbers of times. They come on their vacation from other jobs which says a lot. This is a wonderful, very special place to experience and learn about the arctic ecosystem. A special experience.…
The purpose of our trip was to celebrate my sons 40th birthday. I had visited the lodge two years ago with a friend and I really wanted this to be a special experience and believe me both of us were not disappointed. The Peterson family, Tanya the cook, the guides Grant, and Jeff (Moist), and of course George could not have made this visit more special for us. The fishing was amazing,(just ask my son), the food was delicious, and the accommodations were found to be very comfortable. Hot showers, sauna, WiFi were all put to use. Nights in the gazebo smoking a cigar and the occasional sip of cognac were enjoyed by all. The flight in and out of the lodge were smooth and breathtaking, The photography...the raw beauty of the land, the falcons, the caribou, and of course the fish were all amazing....I would love to come back for their photography course at the end of the season to capture the Northern Lights and brilliant reds of the tundra. This place is Gods backyard, and to me is really Home Sweet Home. LSL…
Could not have asked for a better experience. Planned an extra day on either end of the trip for "just in case"; it was a good thing. AA lost my luggage from DFW to Yellowknife, but the help from Margaret went above and beyond. Not only did she help with contacting the airline, but provided transportation to and from two stores and the items I could not find her daughter and her were generous to lend me for the trip. Before boarding the float plane, you are treated to a delightful breakfast; complete with Mimosas or coffee is you prefer. When you arrive you have access to hot showers, plentiful coffee, great meals (shore lunches!) and the fishing is spectacular. Chad Peterson and his guides truly make the trip. They know the lake, the surrounding area and the wildlife; by the third day you feel so welcome that it feels like your lodge as well. PPLL definitely is added to my annual fishing list.…
