hey when there is nothing available this place really shines! lol

it is decent enough and clean enough so no worries there,
you can walk downtown from here without any worries, parking could be an issue if the hotel is busy.
it would be about my fourth choice in hotels arriving in yellowknife.

I was a guest at Capital Suites in Yellowknife from February 5th to 17,
2006. I wanted to convey to you that I had an excellent stay and was
provided with very good service. The rooms were well taken care of and
clean. Any requests I made were addressed quickly. I would recommend
your hotel to other travellers and would not hesitate to book a room
there again.

From the outside this place is nothing to look at, but it had the best hotel bed, pillows, and sheets I've ever slept on. I was also pleasantly surprised by the great soft (clean and white) towels. Normally these places have towels like sandpaper. In addition, the front desk folks (Andrew and Bic) were very helpful and nice. The only downside for me was no restaurant on site for breakfast; but, there was a ķurig in the room, so I did get good coffee first thing in the am. Finally, the suite was spacious and extremely clean. Overall, I would highly recommend for business or pleasure.

Worst customer service. They don't pick up phoned when at the airport. There is no ambience of a lobby which is always locked like a cheap hourly motel. If you have to stay here, don't stay on the parking lot side. 6AM beeping of trucks backing up or garbage trucks collecting trash making noise. When you park you deal with hotel and local workers smoking under the cover of the parking. Butts and garbage near the lobby and parking area. We were stuck here because the other hotels were booked. No food here. Rooms were ok. You need to leave windows open for fresh air, but you deal with noise on lobby side parking lot. Please pass on this place

Staff was very pleasant, especially Zina, who was a sweetheart. It was easy walk to downtown and if you are up to it can even walk to Old Town. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The free shuttle to and from the airport was quite helpful. Having a full bar fridge and microwave was very helpful for snacks after aurora viewing.

I visited Yellowknife in late November on a combined work and personal trip. My friend suggested that I try the Capital Suites because they offer complete furnished executive apartments for less than a hotel room. Restaurants in Yellowknife are few and far between and can be pretty expensive. Also I get a travel allowance from my company so if I don't spend money in restaurants, I can pocket the allowance.

The Suites (I guess it used to be called the Gardens) turned out to be a great place to stay for the 4 days I was there. The Front Desk lady was super friendly and got me settled in a nice one bedroom that is bigger than my apartment at home! The rest of the staff was helpful as well - even the cleaners were cheerful. The Suites have nice furniture, big cable TV and the kitchens have everything you need for cooking. (I ordered pizza mostly but made my own breakfast). The place even has a business center and a small gym.

The place is a couple of blocks from downtown. I walked to my meetings and was happy to have a little distance between me and the busy downtown bar scene - even though I did spend a couple of fun evenings down there. Everybody should try the "Strange Range" at least once.

I will certainly be staying there when I go back again in April. This place is so comfortable and convenient you really have to wonder why anybody would bother staying in a hotel room.

What a great place to stay! I still can't get over how excellent the service was. I have travelled a lot in the North, and when I couldn;t get a room at my regualr hotel, a local reccomended Capital Suites. I will only be staying there from now on. HUGE suites - 2 bathrooms! Very good price. TRY THEM the next time you are in Yellowknife!!!!

Please do not stay here. It was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. EVER. Luckily we were here just one night, because between noise in the halls, thumping from adjoining rooms, random knocks at our door at all hours of the night, we managed maybe 3-4 hours sleep. Neither me nor my husband are fussy travelers (both in our mid-twenties and well traveled), and I have nicknamed this place "the Trailer". Pay the extra bit for The Explorer hotel or even the Super 8.

We had a smoking room on a "party floor" because there was nothing else available. It was covered in cigarette burns and smelled awful (perhaps to be expected in a smoking room, but was very unfortunate). The windows didn't seem to lock well, and the room was basically on the ground floor. It didn't feel very safe, and was not horribly unclean, but not especially clean either. The bed was also really uncomfortable.

On the other hand, the hotel staff were really lovely and tried to be very accommodating. I just didn't think the property was well maintained.

What I learned in Yellowknife is that there really isn't anything luxurious in terms of accommodations. My suite was awesome though. Totally renovated and super comfortable. Really awesome beds that were super comfy. Coffee machines in room, full appliances, great tv's. I walked everywhere and to town was about 6 minutes leisurely. To Old town was about 22-26 minutes and you can pay $3 for a bus back. Love the free wifi and free airport shuttle too! The service was great at the hotel too, there was a small problem and it was rectified asap completely pleasant! I found it super clean as well. It doesn't have a restaurant in the hotel and I think that's a good thing though....it made me go out and try different places. Thumbs up from me!

I think the shuttle runs to a few of the different hotels. I know when we used the shuttle to get to Capital Suites, it stopped at the Explorer and a couple of other places first (can't remember if Days Inn was one, but I think it was). You should be fine...
