This is a beautiful and convenient location for exploring the Mabou highlands area. Overall it was lovely to be there. The campground would easily achieve 5 stars, but the campsites were crowded together and the cleanliness was sorely lacking. The washroom building was always very dirty (filthy is a harsh word). COVID or no COVID, when that many people are using one building, it needs to be cleaned regularly to ensure basic health and safety. I'm sure the income from all of those campsites would easily support the cleaning staff required. Would think twice about returning.

The beach is the reason to stay here - it's superb, very soft sand and gorgeous view. Beach wasn't crowded at all but hard to say if that was typical, as it seemed that perhaps occupancy was a bit low and also the weather was less than prime while we were there.

Tenting sites vary - some have excellent water views and some are treed. Quite a few are not level at all which may cause a setup challenge depending on your gear.

There could really be more toilet facilities and water taps for the size of the place - it can be quite a hike depending on which site you're in. Outhouses look sketchy from the outside but were kept very clean. Bathroom building was kept clean; showers are free, and have plenty of hot water and great water pressure. There are no dishwashing stations. There was an outdoor shower by the left beach entrance but we didn't try it.

Free wifi available in some areas of the property, closer to the bathroom building and office. Cell service varied depending on where you were.

We would definitely go back just to be at that gorgeous beach!

Have stayed here probably 20 times since early 2000's and it has been my favourite non-backcountry campsite in NS by far. The only real downside is nowadays there are so many seasonal campers that make it seemed packed. But if you are tenting then it's great and you get much better spots then the campers. Beach is one of the best in NS and is private. Plus literally the best spot to watch a sunset in NS.

Really, the only way to sum this place up is,,,,it really is only for people from Nova Scotia. If you are from Ontario, please save yourself the disappointment and find somewhere else to camp. They have a "no reservation" policy. Or so they state for those outside of Nova Scotia, The line we got was,,,,,,"July is the busiest time of the year so we can't promise specific sites but we will find you a place. It is a first come first served type of arrangement, We will put you on the best open site we have when you arrive". Don't believe it, unless of course you are from Nova Scotia. We were 2 families travelling together, and had arranged for their style of reservation 3 months in advance, We requested side by side sites, not only did we not get that, although it was available and feasible when we arrived, they stuck us on the side of a hill sandwiching another family from Ontario on what appeared to be not real sites, They ran hydro and water from other sites to service us. The hill was so steep I had to lift 2 of my children onto the bottom step of out Travel Trailer because it was 3 feet off the ground. There were plenty of open, normal, "real sites" when we arrived but they were filled over the course of the next 2 days by folks from Nova Scotia. So mush for the "no reservations/first come first served" policy. They actually went out of their way to give us the exact opposite of what we did ask for. My advice to the owner,,,,if you don't want families from Ontario to stay at your campground, just say so. We would have gladly found another place to stay, Thanks for doing your best to ruin our family vacation to the east coast, Thankfully the remainder of our time on Cape Breton and in the Maritimes was filled with gracious and polite people that renewed our love of the east coast, As a side note, the other family from Ontario was misled and lied to about the site they were getting and left early as well. If you are keeping score, that is 3 Ontario families that packed up and left earlier than expected because of the rude and abhorrent treatment.

Other than being on the hill (our fault, we didn't have a spot booked and it was a last-minute thing), it was an excellent spot. Great view, friendly staff, and beautiful spot. I stayed here last year and again this year, I will probably end up staying again too.

I read the other review about how crowded the campsite was in July which is one reason we visited mid September 2015 to avoid the crowds. During our visit it was not too crowded, there were quite a few spots occupied by long-term campers but it appeared they had already left for the season. We stayed one night and paid for a water/electric site but was forced to move to a non-serviced site due to the incessant dog barking from one of the long-term campers. We moved to site #111 which was directly facing the beach and was away from the barking dog and other campers. My wife and I enjoyed a very peaceful dinner and beautiful sunset at this site. So despite not having water and electric which we had paid for we were glad we moved and had the peace and quiet of being all by ourselves with a fantastic sunset. This is a large campsite and I believe my experience would have been totally different had I visited during the busy season. For slower periods this is a fantastic location. I would have given 5 stars had they controlled the dog barking of the inconsiderate long term stayers.

I requested a site with power and water but was told I would have to take a completely unserviced site due to the fact that I was in a tent. I’ve never had an issue with this at any other campground. There’s only one building with flush toilets, so keep that in mind if you don’t like outhouses like my camping partner. Otherwise it was a great experience, beautiful views, close to things to do and great guests.

I expected much more for the high price of camping here. Uneven sites to pitch a tent. Camp site was littered with rubbish. Facilities placed far from tenting area and no outdoor dishwashing area. Not to mention the unfriendly speed patrol nazi! I did not enjoy my visit and regret not staying elsewhere. The only redeeming quality is the view.
