The hotel was booked thru Hotwire .com. We used that travel / reservation website in the past and got one of the hotels listed as possible.
This time the Hearthstone Inn was not listed among the options. We were disappointed with the hotel given by Hotwire and we will never use Hotwire ever again. Hotwire review is 0 of 10. You have to pay in advance and they give you the hotel they want.

Regarding the Hearthstone Inn, it is a 3 star hotel with friendly service. When we arrived the key of the given room didn’t work and we were given the Celtic room, which is decorated with the music instrument and music sheets. The room was clean as well as the bathroom. The hotel is fairly old and is in need of a good refit. That’s the reason of the review 3/5.
The breakfast was not included and was $7 per person. We saw locals coming for breakfast to the restaurant.

I was expecting a better hotel, but Hotwire disappointed us.

We stayed here for one night. We knew Covid was affecting amenities and we were aware of the bagged breakfast and the restaurant being closed. The pool was also closed as are the inside pools at surrounding hotels. The price of the room all reflected this.

Our room was quite clean and tidy. The shower head wasn’t the greatest but that’s probably my only complaint about the room. The bagged lunch was more like a bag of snacks and it would have been better if it was optional.

Location is fairly close to the downtown area. There wasn’t much of a view from our room. But we were really only spending the night here as we started our vacation and were not there for amenities.

I’d stay here again for the purpose of just needing a bed and a clean room. Without Covid restrictions I also think they would typically be offering much more.

After reading other reviews, I started to get worried about staying here. But aside from needing a building upgrade to fix all the little things, I could see that they are trying and doing an okay job at ensuring a good room experience. Our room was clean and amenities were supplied. Little upgrades to the room helped make it feel more comfortable, though a larger investment in upgrades would have increased comfort. My biggest concern was the gap around the door making sound and light from the hallway come into our room too easily. All in all, a decent cheaper hotel option. Definitely not a luxury hotel.

If you booked at this place try to change location… average room, aging furniture, very very small bathroom… it smells of cigarette smoke even if you are not allowed to smoke there, this smell is disgusting ……, the beds are too soft and the air conditioning is noisy and dirty.. in the dining room there are wall units to air condition the room but they close it (saving electricity perhaps???) , the food is very ordinary and when served ouffffffff long long long…. certain that we won't go back there again if we go to the area of Sydney

Staff are the only thing good about this place.

I was put into the basement in room 121.. it was filthy. There was dust everywhere, the floor was not clean, the paint was peeling off the windows and walls. There was a lot of scuff/dents in the walls..

Got moved into another room downstairs which was a lot nicer looking but it was damp and smelled foul like mold I immediately had allergic reaction. The floors were filthy and under the bed had dirt and grime under it.. the bedskirts had stains I was afraid to sleep bc I thought I would see a mouse in my room. The damp musty smell kept me up all night I had to spray body mist to try and freshen the room. Pack allergy pills and allergy eye drops if you get out in those rooms.

I got moved into room 206 this one was better and not damp or foul smelling. The air conditioner needs to be cleaned bc there was a lot of dirt in it.

If you stay here bring your own water and snacks. They have a vending machine but no ATM to take money out. I had to use Skip to get water delivered..

There restaurant is closed on Mondays and they don’t have a liquor license so you can’t get a drink after a long day.

We have used this location in the past and had found it good for our needs however things have changed dramatically. We booked using booking.com but when we arrived, the hotel would not honour the rate. The restaurant that use to provide a good breakfast in the past is now gone and breakfast now consists of bagged muffins and bad coffee. When we checked in we were told the water was shut down for 50 minutes. When we asked for bottled water sufficient for personal hygiene...we were directed to the vending machine. Only through complaining did we receive a jug of water. The water was out for over 2 hours. So toilet flushing or showers were not available. After 1900 hours when the water was back, the TV would not work and had to be repaired. Will never be back.

All in all you shouldn't waste your money, spend the 10 $ more and stay next door. Hotel needs some serious upgrades, stinky room. Our room had some serious drainage problems and not very sound proof. The water pressure in the shower and sink is very low. Restaurant or pool isn't open and your bagged lunch is very disappointing.

I usually take the horrible reviews with a ton of salt, but this time they were quite accurate. Due to a last minute change in plans, we needed a night in Sydney and many hotels were booked up so we took a chance on this. We survived to tell about it lol.

As soon as we walked in the lobby we could smell a musty smell. The room had a lot to be desired - the laminate flooring was curling up, the veener on the old bedside tables was coming off, the mattress was old and sagging, the paint was peeling in the bathroom, etc. It was clean enough I guess, but honestly I would be embarrassed to have guests stay in a room like at my house - never mind charging money.

Our door had wide gaps around it so light and noise came in from the hallway all night. Also, fire doors in the hallway were propped open all the time. I don't know how anyone could run a hotel like this. There was a sign in the lobby that said it's soon to become a Radisson - I hope they're going to put a lot of money into it.

I rented a large suite with a hot tub a month in advance, they called me up 6pm the night before the booking to tell me the room was unavailable, they put me in a "Business King" which was a tiny room with a king bed, not even comparable, I was still charged the same price though. They made is sound as it just was not going to have the hot tub on the phone.
They had "breakfast" in the lobby in the morning. It was basically a kids lunch bag with a juice box and a cereal bar. Everything in the hotel was "closed due to covid". Seriously go anywhere else.

My son rented a room for 150 tax included
There was pubic hair all over the bed and looked like somebody was laying in it. My son said he had to take the blanket out of the closet and lay it on the bed since that was clean. I phoned the hotel to ask for another room and they want to charge me 89.00 plus tax. I asked him for a room with no charge due to the room being in a dirty condition and he said no. I will never nor my family will ever go back to this hotel. Shame on them. DISGUSTING
