The Royal Hotel provides 9 interestingly unique suites, each depicting a rustic feel by allowing for the natural beauty of time to shine by sharing its story. The Royal Hotel is a historic landmark. We’ve been here since 1895. This makes us the oldest established business at the same location on all of Cape Breton Island. Built as the Royal Hotel, this remarkable building has always kept its original purpose. By staying at the Royal Hotel, you will be immersed into a distinctive reality, quite similar to entering the world of the old 1900’s. The grand lobby is always warm and inviting with its beautiful fireplace, and a massive staircase will lead you to the second and third floors. The Royal Hotel is located at the heart of downtown Sydney, Nova Scotia, nested around restaurants, shops, museums and theaters. Two minutes down the boardwalk along the harbor will bring you to the cruise ship pavilion and site of the world’s largest fiddle. Come for a stay and take part of our Royal family, for we are a very personalized hotel, and together we forge memories, and create history. Royal Hotel - “Creating authentic customer experiences where history, charm, and exceptional service collide.”

This is wonderful gem in Sydney. Across the street from a few of the big hotel chains but with much better rates & wonderful personal attention. The rooms are a good size with a large closet & a huge bathroom! My husband & I loved everything about it. They only take cash & reservations are done over the phone. Easy walking to the small boardwalk & cruise ship pavilion. There is free parking behind the hotel. We highly recommend the Royale Hotel!

It was wonderful. But no elevator. It is an older home and I loved it. Rooms spacious and comfy. Very friendly and accommodating. Pet friendly. Restaurant few houses down with music and its across from a boardwalk along the shore and a few canteens.

I travel regularly for work and as a public employee try to keep the costs down. I am a minimalist - I need a place that is clean, safe and comfortable. I am not looking for fancy, pools and gyms. The Royale met all of my needs. It was like staying in an older home and very comfortable. It is in a great part of town. I will definitely stay there again.

Again I stayed in the Royale Hotel. The hosts are open minded, friendly. We had some interesting discussions. From my point of view, the hotel could do with a modernization. The hospitality is great. That,s how you want to return. Maria, Germany

Royale Hotel is centrally located in Sydney. My room with attached bathroom was clean. The people who work there are helpful. I was comfortable there. Sydney, Nova Scotia and the Cape Breton Region have exceeded my expectations. Plan to come back. Irmgard, M. Germany

For us, this is TripAdvisor at it's best. If you're willing to go old downtown funk (and not at all in a bad way), this is the place. If you like spending peak season rates in The Maritimes, be our guest. But if you'd like a very comfortable bed in a nice clean (old) room (in our case complete with private bath), this is the place. We're in at easily 60% of the cost of those other faceless places. Irene and Burt are very gracious hosts. We cannot believe you will be disappointed. Give them a chance!

This place seems like a throwback, a lodging establishment from another era. It's more like a B&B (without the breakfast, or the pretentiousness) than a hotel.... All the rooms are different, it's in a historic building, and there's a moose head mounted on the wall in the living room. It's amazingly inexpensive, very clean and the owner (manager?) is the nicest guy ever. Wish I could find a place like this everywhere I go.

We just spent 3 nights here. We loved it! Great llocation right on the waterfront in the heart of town. We walked along the boardwalk each morning and walked to dinner each night. The owner, Irene, is a lovely woman! Burt, the main worker at the hotel is very helpful and kind. They both treated our 5 year old daughter with patience and kindness. We will stay again next year!

I stayed at Royale Hotel in Sydney NS for one night and was so impressed with this beautiful, charming and very comfortable hotel. Bert, the owner for over 30 years was friendly and helpful. My room was lovely, with ensuite, newly renovated bathroom and the most important things, the bed and pillows, were perfect. The prices are surprisingly low (69.99 + tax). The beauty of this place is also location, situated on the Esplanade, 1 minute from the harbour Boardwalk with restaurants and great sunsets.

We played a couple gigs in Sydney and wanted to stay close so we chose the Royale over the larger chains. Not only was is cheaper but the owner helped me carry my drums in and out, cleaned the snow off our cars and came to watch us play..... not gonna get that at a Delta and half the price. The rooms are clean and comfortable with incomparable character and the owners are fantastic.
