We played a couple gigs in Sydney and wanted to stay close so we chose the Royale over the larger chains. Not only was is cheaper but the owner helped me carry my drums in and out, cleaned the snow off our cars and came to watch us play..... not gonna get that at a Delta and half the price....

If you want something different than the big chain hotels then this is the place! The Royal is an century building, but it has been very well maintained. The rooms are clean and spacious, have antique furniture, but are very comfortable and cozy. The beds are new and what you'd expect in a new big chain hotel, so don't worry....

Really enjoyed our stay here. It is a very interesting place, with a great location in Sydney. The room was cozy, shower had great water pressure, and the owners were very friendly. Also, the price is great. The room and bathroom were very clean, you can tell the place is well cared for by the staff. There was a sink...

I was with a very beautiful girl that I married a long time ago and we needed a place to sleep for the evening. Options were there for the typical chain hotels which isn't really what we look for in accommodations. Unique generally wins out and we tend to have better memories as a result. Our room was very large...

This hotel is centrally located and walkable to many restaurants and the waterfront. Short drive to the Newfoundland ferry. Rates were very reasonable. Rooms were dated but clean. No air-conditioning but a fan was provided in the room. Shared kitchenette space provided with a fridge.

Built in the 1890s, the Royale offers comfortable rooms at outstanding prices. A room with a private bath was going for $59 and a room with a bathroom down the hall for $49. I took the latter, which suited me, and I especially enjoyed a long, hot bath in a old, deep bathtub with four feet. The room had a...

The location was great as it was in the middle of downtown Sydney. The staff was really friendly and helpful. They are very accommodating as they allowed us to drop off our bags early in the morning before we were able to check-in. They gave us some suggestions on places to eat. The hotel is a little old but it...

This was not my first choice, but my companion had stayed there before, and he strongly recommended it. The hotel was delightful...half the price of the more modern ones, clean, huge rooms, wonderful location and the best hospitality I've ever experienced.

This hotel never has made up its mind whether it's the Royal or the Royale, and from the outside the doorway looks uninviting, and the foyer looks worse - as if it's going to be scuzzy. It absolutely isn't. It's old-fashioned, yes, but the rooms have old-fashioned high standards: good solid redwood carpentry, high quality linen, excellent beds, individually acquired...

Lovely owner, kind , generous & very personable.Good location, comfortable & clean.Stayed there 20 years ago.Same friendly service from the owner.Had some concern with the maintenance guy. He was asking too many personal questions. My last Sat. morning there he was acting very strange, had dark sun glasses on & ranting about Middle Eastern people. At the same time he was punching...
