My husband and I had the opportuntiy to stay a couple of nights at Holdsworth House B&B. It is like stepping back in time but with all the modern day ammenities we have come to expect. It's a cozy "living" museum" with restored fireplaces, spinning wheels and lots of period pieces everywhere! Our bedroom with en suite bath was very comfortable and had everything we needed for a great night's rest. No TV, but who needs TV when you are in a restored home like this. We never missed it but had interenet service if we had to keep in touch with the outside world. Margaret and Tony were wonderful hosts and very knowledgeable of the history of the house, the people who had lived there, and the surrounding area. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts at thier cafe/bakery just a few blocks away - and on our scheudle! We also took advantage of an optional cooking class over the open fire like people did in the 18th century! We helped cook a delicious meal of salmon, scallops, veggies, and pumpkin pie! It was fun as well as educational! We truly enjoyed our visit and hope to visit again soon.

This is a lovingly restored 18th century house with the kitchen and common areas appointed and furnished as they might have been 325 years ago. Margaret and Tony are justly proud of the work they have done. They are absolutely outstanding hosts - always very helpful and pleasant company. I suppose the accommodations might not be to everyone's taste (no TV; a steep narrow staircase to our room; no shower, but only a tub in our bathroom), but for us it was perfect! Very comfortable bed; nice clean bathroom facilities; wireless. Coffee in the kitchen. Breakfast at their cafe, a few blocks away, where you can have whatever you might want whenever you might want it (rather than fixed menu at a fixed time, as at most B&B's) We had a two night package which included a bottle of private label wine waiting for us when we arrived and a dinner one night in the cafe, which was open only for us - it is not open to the public in the evening. We chose to have dinner on our second night. The menu was quite flexible. The food was delicious. All for an excellent price. We highly recommend the Holdsworth House, and look forward to a return visit.

This bed and breakfast is an absolute gem to stay at if you are traveling into Digby Nova Scotia. Tony and Margarett are fantastic hosts. When we stayed there for 2 nights, they bent over backwards to accommodate us in everything that we did. The house has lots of character and has been restored it to its original state. Their meals are absolutely amazing which are prepared in a hearth in the kitchen. We also chose the option to have an 18th century cooking lesson which was lots of fun to prepare. Her homemade bread is so delicious. The room we stayed in was nice and comfortable and had everything that we needed including home made soap and candles. Overall this is a fantastic one of a kind place to stay that is reasonably priced and highly recommended

The reviews for this establishment are no longer relevant as it has changed management and is no longer a bed and breakfast. We were very disappointed in our stay. Small changes could really make a big difference such as upgrading the bath towels and sheets (they were quite worn), sweeping and dusting once in a while, and replacing the hand soap so that it doesn’t run out during a short visit. Additionally, it was so humid in the house that the carpet and furniture felt perpetually wet. It was unseasonably humid in digby during our stay, but we did visit other homes and none of them had this problem. We would suggest investing in a dehumidifier.

Reading the reviews of the Holdsowrth House Bed and Breakfast, it sounded too good to be true. It wasn't. We were totally blown away by Margaret and Tony with their hospitality and their home. The home is a walk back through the centuries, while the rooms are holding to that tradition but with the amenities you would expect in a fine hotel. We were celebrating our 40th anniversary while there and Mag and Tony made us feel regal. For breakfast you have to take a walk to the waterfront to Mag Pye's. It is a neat little restaurant with a nice selection of offerings from a Scallop omelet to French toast (part of your room rate). We were taking the 8:00 ferry the second morning we were there and they made us a breakfast fit for a king and queen for the boat. If you are anywhere in the area and you don't stay there, you have missed a wonderful treat and some wonderful people. You will be spoiled rotten. You should know they do have cats and dogs. We found the animals to be friendly and at night they are kept in the owners quarters. Enjoy!

A highschool buddy and I have been travelling for 80 days, staying at B&B's as much as possible. Holdsworth House was without a doubt the best of them all. From the fastest internet to the freindliest dogs, everything was perfect. We had the priviledge of being the first to use the newly restored room directly upstairs from the kitchen.
We had the most amazing breakfast of poached egg over smoked salmon and crab cakes at Margaret and Tony's bakery/restaurant, Mag Pyes. It was so good, we made a point of returning after a drive around Annapolis Royal for lunch. I will definately return and also send friends and family as well.

The friendliest B&B owners I have ever met. The historical house turned into a B&B made our stay unforgettable. The food was out of this world. My son and I spent hours talking to Mag and Toni and never got tired of it. They have a natural talent to host travellers. Great place, great people.

It is difficult to sum up this place. On the one hand, Margaret was unbelievably helpful and hospitable. The breakfasts at Mag Pyes were delicious even though some distance away. But other aspects of our stay were decidedly odd: Chester the aged dog in a diaper in front of the fireplace snarling; Tony in his cups; the mobile home where some relatives were staying; the barking dogs we saw only occasionally; the evidence of them scattered on the back lawn which was supposed to be available for guests. To get to our room we had to interrupt the family dinners, the sitting rooms were uncomfortable or occupied, and there was little space to relax and read in our room. Anyone who has mobility issues should not stay here--all the rooms are difficult to access. I would not recommend this place unless you wanted an unusual experience in a restored historic home.

Response from maggiemaedigby, Owner at Holdsworth House Bed and Breakfast
Responded Mar 20, 2014
Thank you for taking time to review our property. I do recall your stay with us, in June, 2013. We do state on our website that the Holdsworth House is "our home". Tony and I do live in the house, and we also have our evening meals in the kitchen. We are offended by the statement of "Tony in his cups". We do like to have a cold beer or a glass of wine after a long days work at the B&B and Mag Pyes Café. Our guests are more that welcomed to join us on the back deck enjoying an evening cocktail and the view. The mobile home, is, in fact, our motorhome, which is parked on the property. Our niece stays there for the summer, as she works with us at Mag Pyes. We do serve breakfast at Mag Pyes, which is a 10min walk, or a 1min drive. We do realize that this is not typical of most B&B's, but this affords us to provide to our guests an extensive breakfast offering, and a beautiful view of the scallop fleet. Also, as stated on our website, we do have pets. I apologize for Chester's behaviour, he is 17 years old, and can be a little grouchy. The Holdsworth House is 231 years old, and has it's quirks. You are right, this B&B is not for everyone. We enjoy having guests that appreciate the history of this very old home, and like to be immersed with the local culture in sharing our home with us.

We stayed with Margaret and Tony for 2 nights, on the first night of our week long biking adventure, and the last night. The B&B is a unique experience back into time, with thank goodness the convenience of modern comforts such as the best hair dryer in Nova Scotia. Our hosts were amazingly generous with their time and knowledge. Margaret's cooking is five star, seriously amazing! I highly recommend eating at her restaurant Mag Pies, which is a short walk from the B&B. We stayed in five other B&B's around Nova Scotia and this was the best experience we had.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Tony and I enjoyed having you stay with us. Great conversations and it was entertaining to hear of your adventures while biking through our province. We hope that you return again some day, and it is because of guests like you both, that we enjoy what we do, and feel appreciated for the efforts that we happily put forth for our guests.

We went for an extended wkend getaway which included whale watching in Digby. Saw the reviews on trip advisor and thought why not. This was one of our highlights of the trip. Tony and Margaret have restored this 1700's house so as not to lose its charm of an era gone by, without sacrificing the creature comforts of today. We arrived late after whale watching which Margaret had prearranged for us. We ate a fantastic supper there which we also had arranged....fresh cod, scallops vegies and potatoes etc. . Afterwards we were treated to a little history about the place...very cool...had a few night caps and retired to the Elizabeth room.....also very nice. Coffee and tea were at the ready early in the morning served up by Tony, as Margaret was at Magpyes, where we went for a wonderful breakfast. After breakfast Margaret loaded us up with some bread pudding and pecan tarts to go, and we were on our way. Definitley will return some day!!
