The King suite was very big with a large King bed and a twin. It was in the basement, but it had it's own bathroom and entrance. Everything was clean and the bed was comfortable. There were lots of pillows and blankets.

There was a mini fridge and coffee and tea (with a coffee maker). The bathroom was very clean, including the shower.

The owner was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was tasty and there was enough. Milk and juice were provided, as well as coffee or tea.

For those who like to walk, it is a superb location. It is not far from downtown (30 minutes). It is quiet and safe, so walking at night is no problem. It is across from the university.

Parking is free and safe.

People very friendly and helpful even though they had a tuff time understanding English. They have two rooms, we had the basement. Upon entering it smelled musty but that odour quickly disappeared once you got down the stairs. The room was quit large with coffee tea maker and snacks. Bed was comfortable but unfortunately the bathroom was a let down. Mould grew along base of shower and in some spots inside the shower. Breakfast upstairs was fine but as I said overall not up to a four star rating as we were advised before leaving for Halifax.

I’ll start with the positive: location was great. Easy walk to Spring Garden and QEII and IWK. Parking is street parking only that can be an issue as it’s right near St. Mary’s. Breakfast wasn’t offered as oven wasn’t working but we did get a discount. I liked the separate entrance. Room was cold and it was complicated to figure out heat. Once I figured it out, it warmed right up. Bathroom did have mold in it. Upstairs was very loud when it was time to sleep. Tv was super loud and sounded like someone stomping on the floor. I would choose another B & B next time.

When we arrived at Robies End B & B in Halifax, which took some locating as there is no signs on the property to tell you it is the B & B, we were met by a Chinese lady who spoke only a little English. We were taken to the two rooms we had booked and she failed to open one of them as she was putting the key in the wrong lock. The other was in a dug out basement with slit windows above head height. Her husband arrived and spoke no English. The emergency contact number was for their daughter who was miles away. The beds were crumpled! The basement room smelled musty and damp. We did not stay but were charged $CAD250 for the pleasure .

While there were some lovely things about this place (location, nice gardens, very clean, working wi-fi), all in all it was very disappointing. I can't imagine how it has earned 4 stars, though perhaps these are leftover from the previous owner.

The current owner, Anna, is clearly running a business, not a socially-oriented B&B. She pushed hard to get what she wanted (eg. seemed very much to want us NOT to have daily breakfast. Perhaps this is due to what appears to be her other job from 3 - 10:30 pm daily ... and she doesn't want to get up in the mornings and make breakfast).

We had to push very had to get basics - there were only a few hangers in the room, and NO CLOSET or DRESSER! We were staying a week, and this really didn't work for us. She did eventually allowed us to move a heavy small dresser from another room into ours (note that we provided the labour), and then later bought a dresser for our room. I would have considered that quite basic... not something we'd have to push for.

We were promised, in writing, a parking space, but that didn't materialize. Instead we were given instructions to park on the street, move our car before 10 am, and we could park in front of her car if we weren't going to move our car all day. It was a nuisance, and we felt we had been mislead by Anna when we booked.

Other issues included: no dvd player (which is listed in their ads), no baked goods for breakfast (also listed in their ads), 1 ply toilet paper (!!! at a 4 star B&B), no welcome snacks (listed in their ads) and the cream in the mini fridge had soured. When we pointed this out Anna knew why it was sour, but hadn't done anything to rectify it.

As I wrote earlier, she appears to be approaching this as an impersonal business, not a personally-oriented B&B. If this is what you want, and you don't have a car to park, then this place may suit your needs. We won't be returning, or recommending it to anyone.

I do not understand all these positive testimonials. We booked to stay their on our 33rd anniversary. The first thing I noticed is that there was no BNB sign out front stating it was a legit bnb. That should have been a red flag right there. There was so much wrong with the room it was unbelievable. No air conditioner like it stated. TV didnt work. Bed bugs in the bed which jumped on my husband and then found bugs in the bathroom. Long hair on the sheets. Towels were like rags. Anna was not around, after many calls to her cell she finally called back and came home. She left the premises at 5 pm and said I will see you at 830 am. Have no idea where she was. No one to ask questions of which a bnb is suspossed to be. When she finally came home at 930 pm I was on the phone trying to find another place to stay. We could not stay here under any circumstances. Please BE WARE This is not a GOOD place to stay and for the bad experience I would bookd ELSEWHERE. It ruined our anniversary.

We were in a bit of a bind, having trouble finding a place to stay, we called and the woman said they had availability. We were first shown a room in the basement. It smelled musty and there was mold in the bathroom. We asked if there were other rooms and she had one on the main level of the house. The room was large and looked clean enough. There was a fridge in the hall way, and obvious University students staying as well. It turned out our shower had mold as well. A little maintenance would go a long way. Breakfast was just ok, and the other guests did not have breakfast with us, a little cold and not very welcoming.

When we arrived, I could feel and smell the humidity in the house and in the room. It was a strong musty smell. There was no air conditioning so I told the owners I did not want the room. They refused to cancel my reservation so we had to stay. The smell was so bad we had to leave early in the morning. We did no stay for breakfast so I can't comment on that.

We arrived at 1:30 pm to check in which sounded like a great start. It was not. The room and tile floors were so cold we kept our coats on for two hours before giving up and going out for dinner. Supplies for instant coffee included one creamer and no sugar. There was sweeteners. One door in suite was marked EMERGENCY EXIT but was locked.
The shower had so much mold on it and dirt on shower curtain that my wife said that I couldn't use it. Eventually the place warmed up.

Breakfast the next morning was equally disappointing. Coffee was instant and milk was on table in unopened one litre cartoon. Toast came warm and white and butter was in little frozen packages that could not be spread and I tried.

This is the first negative review that I have written and feel badly about it but can't recommend it and won't be back.

We booked this b&b mainly for price and location. Not the least bit disappointed! The hosts are absolutely charming and so very willing to please their guests. The room we had was very clean, with many little "extras" that make it so nice. We were walking distance to downtown to see the Citadel and the harbour boardwalk, as well as Pier 21. Breakfast was very good! We would certainly recommend this b&b to anyone interested! You won't regret your decision!
