Nestled in downtown Halifax, The Westin Nova Scotian receives accolades for its excellent location, close to waterfront attractions and local hotspots. While the hotel's cleanliness and service generally earn praise, with staff described as friendly and professional, some guests point out the need for updates, particularly in the rooms.
Noise is a recurring concern, potentially disrupting sleep. Opinions on value are split, with some travelers finding reasonable pricing while others are put off by costly extras and dated amenities.

Detailed Reviews
We decided to take an adult night without the kids and stayed at The Westin. The staff here was simply amazing warm, friendly and helpful. We were not sure what to expect with all the new COVID-19 rules. The staff had this covered, all public areas you had to wear mask, no contact delivery to the rooms and still was able to make me feel welcome. I travel a lot for work and I have to stay the staff here topped all others. They were happy, funny and just plain welcoming. Definitely will go back. The room was super clean and the food was excellent. Thank you The Westin for a great visit, we will be back.

Since one might never know the weather or if the Ocean will arrive on time, we decided to book at the Westin connected directly to the VIA station. It was an excellent choice with a short walk from the concourse to checkin, with friendly reception and a newly renovated lobby. The rooms and services were great, with a nice welcome note and half bottle of wine greeting us. Since it was relatively late, we chose to eat in the lobby bar which has the full menu and great beverages. The seafood chowder is NOT to be missed and the best I have ever had in my life. I would come back here JUST for that.
There are hints of the age of the hotel here and there, including some of the noises from the ventilation system and pipes and such, but generally found everything more than adequate.
We stayed for breakfast in the morning and found the waffles and omelettes excellent along with the rest of the spread. The restaurant staff were as friendly and professional as everyone else we encountered.
To top it off, we found the on premise car rental very handy to get around for a quick day and save money compared to a cab to the airport.

My wife and I stay here once a month for a staycation. We only live an hour away but the 24hrs in Halifax is a nice getaway.
We recently began staying at the Westin. The rooms are nice and the larger rooms, when available, are perfect. Beyond that, I swear they have the best food in the city. Breakfast is incredible. Seriously, lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote!! Fish cake eggs benny! The best.
Their happy hour (Thursday and Saturday) serves incredible things like $6 calamari (that tastes like it’s $25) or halibut tar tar with salmon roe for $7. Are you kidding me!!!
Staff are always helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this hotel.

Location of hotel is excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. Not impressed that visitors that bring dogs aren't required to have dog on leash or proper restraints, not everyone is comfortable being met in the hallways by dogs that aren't on a leash . I cannot believe that there are no microwaves in the rooms, have stayed at many motels and hotels that are far cheaper that have microwaves in the rooms, not complimentary breakfast.Wi-fi in room was spotty, and kept going out. I will never stay there again.

We have stayed at this Westin multiple times before and loved it, our most recent stay however was extremely disappointing...We spent a lot of money on our suite (which had several bugs in it) and received very poor customer service....we were not told we had to reserve a time to use the pool (which was freezing cold), this caused a lot of confusion and when going to speak to the front desk they were unfriendly/borderline rude. We were travelling with our one year old and dog so we had several bags at check in, no one offered to help us up to our room or even asked if we need a trolley cart. The food we ordered in the morning for breakfast was absolutely TERRIBLE....spent about $60 on the worst eggs Benny we have ever had. Overall, super disappointed as this was our first little getaway in over two years, we were really looking forward to it and we were excited to be staying at the Westin, but clearly things have changed and we will not be returning.

My boyfriend and I checked in for a one night stay, we dropped our stuff off in the room then went downtown for a few hours. When we got back we noticed the shower was not cleaned, dirt, old dry soap and hairs all over it. I went to use a wine glass in the room when I noticed old lipstick on it. At this point in the night we figured it was too late for anything to be done, so we would mention it at check out. In the morning we went for breakfast where we waited an hour just to get our food, which was even more disappointing than the long wait. When we went to check out I mentioned the shower and the wine glass to the person on front desk who was very inconsiderate and couldn’t even look at me when I was talking to him. We got nothing in return to compensate for our horrible stay. Working in the hospitality industry myself I was very disappointed and the service they provided was completely unacceptable.

I would like to commend on the level of service. We ordered room service, asked for "extras", and ate in the dining room while on a business trip. Each time we had direct interactions with the staff they were helpful, hospital and professional. I especially enjoyed a "pep talk" from one of your front door staff on my way to a difficult meeting. I wish I could remember his name.
I would like to make you aware of a couple of ways the stay fell short of our expectations.
Cleanliness - it was obvious the carpet on the 4th floor had not been vacuumed for some time. In fact, the entire fourth floor smells dank and it permeates your clothing. It smells like cigarette smoke and it is very off-putting. I felt uncomfortable as soon as we got off the elevator.
We were missing amenities in our room like conditioner in the shower. I would also suggest mugs for coffee as opposed to the one paper cup that was left. I had asked at the time of booking for a microwave in the room, but that was not provided.
On day two of our stay, although we paid for parking, the parking lot was full which caused a lot of stress.
Due to the cleanliness concerns, we would not feel comfortable staying again. Also for those who like room to move around the standard rooms are very small. Think single-file while navigating the room with two people.

Dear Nancy, Thank you for your feedback. While we're glad our amazing staff impressed you, we apologize for any concerns about cleanliness, which we take very seriously. I will ask our housekeeping team to check your room immediately. Regarding parking, we actually have the most parking available of any hotel in the city. However, sometimes with local groups in-house, there is not enough availability for everyone. I will ask our front desk team to look into it and rebate your second day's parking. We'll keep your comments in mind, and we hope to see you again soon. From The Westin Nova Scotian Team

We stayed at the Westin Nova Scotian hotel in Halifax on September 3, 2022. Let me list the problems that we had. It took hours to cool the room to a comfortable temperature. The room had two queen beds with only one night stand between them with an over sized lamp. This left very little room for my CPAP machine or anything else for that matter. The wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling off the wall (all 4 walls). There were stains on the bathroom ceiling and the grout in the shower needed cleaning. Also, in order to flush the toilet, we needed to lower the toilet seat lid. The rug was old, worn and they were two different styles. No one thing was terrible, but we got all this and it only cost $340.74 a night (US dollars)!! There isn’t enough time or space to discuss the issues with the hotel restaurant.

My boyfriend and I were hoping for a relaxing evening away but ended up pretty disappointed. We came for Valentine's Day and check in was very slow and guests were forced to stand very closely together. When we got to our room I had pre-requested chocolate covered strawberries and fruit and what I found looked like canned fruit salad. We had originally picked the Westin so we could use the hot tub and booked it in advance. When we got there the pool area was very busy and there was no staff informing Covid protocols. The staff did not address the situation and we were unable to use the hot tub as we felt very uncomfortable with the amount of people in the area. We came to the hotel specifically because there was said to be protocols in place but I did not see any staff following through.
I would not recommend the hotel to others unless they changed their Covid restrictions and alterations. If the Westin continues to operate this way, it might quickly become a hot spot.

I don't know where to start with this hotel, the fact that they have 4 stars is astonishing. First off, will say the lobby is very nice and the location is convenient but here is a brief description of our stay:
1) Check-in experience was terrible, we weren't told anything about our room, how to access the WiFi or any of the amenities. The front desk staff seemed more interested in getting back to browsing his phone than helping us.
2) We walk into the room and there is a distinct moldy smell
3) We paid for a queen size bed and got a double, even called to enquire about this and front desk told us it is a queen and there are no other rooms available
4) Condition of the room is atrocious, paint chips, stained carpet, dirty grout in the shower, bathroom fan not working, toilet directly out of a shopping mall stall
5) Wifi doesn't work, connects for about 30 seconds and will request another log in, over and over
Had we paid a HEAVILY discounted price for this room we would deal with these inconveniences but this is a 300$ per night room. Any other hotel in town for half the price is a MUCH better value (we know, we checked with friends). We thought the Westin (and by association Marriott) brand was a safe bet. Especially at the rating and price. Do yourself a favor and go to any other hotel including cheaper brands and I promise a better experience. I cannot fathom how this hotel stays in business.

Good Morning! Yes we do have a business center located in our hotel lobby.
Have a great day!
He is the new GM. When it was John Wilson it was superior. Matthew simply doesn't have the skill set or people skills to run the "grand dame" of Halifax. Hence why we have recently decided to move all our business to another Marriott property. Shame really.
A few years ago, there was, as a friend used it. However, I was only there for Christmas Dinner. I'd call thhe hotel
Call Room Service. They will send it right up. All the restaurants are tied to room service. You receive a menu and what is available and when for room service in the room. If you have questions, just ring the desk. All staff are very friendly and helpful.
I can't answer that question, it's best to contact the hotel, I'm sure they would be happy to answer your questions!
Sorry I couldn't help
