Detailed Reviews
The location of the hotel is brilliant and made even more so by having free parking to the rear, although you will need to check in to find the entrance. The room was large with a good, if somewhat dated, bathroom. Check in was great as we arrived around 12.30pm and our room was ready. The room was on the first floor and unsurprisingly in an historic building, there was no lift, but the stairs were quite wide so carrying the cases was not a problem.
With covid the room was not automatically serviced, but could be done on request. Since we only stayed 2 nights we didn't bother.
Breakfast offered was unusual with a pack provided on request with a choice of 5 items for $10. However, there was a convenient coffee house very nearby which we used both mornings. Overall an excellent stay.

The location is fantastic: right downtown Halifax. That is the big feature.
Also, parking out back is free. I wouldn't want to hang around in that parking lot at all, or go out there alone at night but otherwise, free parking at a downtown Halifax hotel is great. Its usually $25+.
The building is... older. They say "Historic". That said, its clean, bathrooms are well maintained, and spacious.
My biggest beef was: our first room wasn't done up, our actual room was facing the road the the snowplow went by a few times which ruined my sleep. That's why I take off a point.
Also, stairs, stairs, stairs. My fiancee carried in the luggage and managed all the stairs. At that, you need two keys to get through the outside door, then the room door. And the stairs leading to the back, you hit you head, even if you aren't tall. So if you aren't able to do stairs, don't stay here.
They had breakfast but we noticed it was picked over by the time we arrived. So we had juice and went on to Starbucks. I cannot comment much on the food options at breakfast.
The price was very fair, again, especially for downtown Halifax.
It wasn't my favourite hotel but in a pinch, I would stay there again. Its great for staying in downtown Halifax for sure. Otherwise, I'd probably do a chain over at Dartmouth Crossing and just drive into the city as needed.

The main building is indeed very historic and elegant. The hotel clearly states no elevator but there are two flights if you are on the second floor. We paid an extra $15 each for a very generous continental breakfast in the dining room. Unfortunately on site restaurant was closed for dinner . We found the onsite parking problematic. Its limited ...first come first served. There is one loading zone space outside the main building where you check in. That was taken the day we arrived, so we had to double park while one of us ran in and got parking directions. (down a side alley). Otherwise its paid parking on the street. Staff were terrific. Nothing too much bother. Room was very comfy and I did not find it too small at all. However the TV was very small for an upmarket hotel and really should be upgraded. We stayed two nights in the old building, One night (midweek) the noise from the pub next door was really loud. Other reviewers have commented on the potential for noise so you take your chances. The next night no problem. You could ask to stay further away from the noise in one of the timber buildings but I dont think it would be the same experience.

Thank you for your kind review, we are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and took advantage of our inhouse breakfast! Unfortunately Stories Fine Dinning has closed as of August 2023, but we are always happy to recommend restaurants that are close by. Please never hestitate to reach out to the front desk staff regarding the noise from the pub, we are able to call them to ask them to lower the noise. Wishing you safe travels in the future! - The Halliburton Team

The rooms seemed pleasant enough, but the $150 security deposit was unecessary, perhaps the owners thought guests might abscond with the small enough to fit into a coat pocket, LED TV, ( tiniest TV, in fact, I have seen in 8 airbnb's or hotels i visited in January) The worst part was a poorly identified ( as available for purchase ) food basket left in the room, perhaps by an owner inspired by visiting sleazy hotels in other countries. The overpriced food package should not be in the rooms ( food was left free of charge in all airbnb's I visited) as this invites abuse from owners wanting to 'treat themselves' to your securty depost. Will not visit this pretenscious 'boutique' again

Thank you for your review. Our snack and beverage selection is clearly marked as "for purchase". A typical hotel deposit is required when guests do not have a credit card. I think this review is a good illustration of the marked difference between hotels and AirBnB type arrangements.

This hotel has old style charm that is for sure! Be prepared to climb stairs and more stairs. They certainly could put a lift in to enable getting to your room with luggage and eliminate a heart attack! The bed pillows are as old as the furniture and smell of old perspiration! Had to wrap pillows in double towels! The flat screen is the size of a computer monitor and you can’t see the picture sitting in bed. We didn’t try the breakfast based on previous bad reviews and was an additional 15.00C per person.
Parking is in back and to get from there to your room once again three flights of stairs. Not a memorable stay.

Thank you for posting your thoughts. I regret you did not enjoy your time with us. I assure you that our pillow cases and slips (yes two wraps) are changed after each stay. No, it would not be possible to install an elevator. Our stairs are well explained and publicized here. No our parking is not ideal but is free of charge! Many feel our breakfast offering is thoughtful and of good value. Optional too. A good example of visitor who should have chosen a "new build" hotel.

The hotel is three separate buildings. The building in which our room was located was damp and smelt very musty in the entrance hall and stairway. The room had a damp patch on the ceiling and the furniture & carpet was damp to the touch. We complained and were given a small fan heater which did not help. We were told it was $50 to move room. All our clothes needed washing after our stay. We were concerned of microbial contamination for guests and staff. The manager was unhelpful and dismissive.

These guests comments are untrue and unfair to our hotel. We found no such moisture in the room. The guest promised to leave such a review unless we issued a refund for his stay. Our 8.6 quality rating among almost 800 Booking.com reviews speaks for itself.

The location of this hotel is perfect, short walk to watershed front, 15 minute walk to City Gardens, 10 minutes to the Via station and best of all a 2 minute walk to a great blues bar.
We booked the suite that was in a walk out basement and while it was very spacious it was dark and damp. The bathroom is in need of renovation, the grey tile grout was black, the shower was ugly (see photo). The patio was not very welcoming and was not somewhere I would choose to sit. Then even basic things like opening the from door was difficult and needed all your strength.

Thank you for sharing your feedback - we're glad to hear you enjoyed the proximity to much of what Halifax has to offer. We're disappointed to hear that you didn't enjoy your guest room - we do have several rooms on the ground level and above that offer more natural lighting.

This is a charming Inn. It is a heritage property so it has a front library room for morning coffee, carpeted stairs, and charm. The front desk staff are very helpful. It is located within walking distance of the Halifax waterfront and attractions. We had a room with a queen-size bed, a traditional upholstered chair, dresser, tv, closet. The bathroom was immaculate. The shower had a rain setting and plenty of hot water. There are no elevators. All the rooms in our building were up stairs. This may be a challenge if you have ambulation issues or heavy luggage. If you bring a car they have free parking for guests.

First time stay at The Halliburton and thoroughly enjoyed it. Cozy rooms and comfortable beds.
Had a excellent meal. The duck was delicious and my wife had the Guinea hen. A special treat of crusted scallops was definitely a treat. The chef knows what he's doing.
Our server Mallorie was very attentive and kept our wine glasses filled. She was very knowledgeable and had a genuine smile at all times. The best.
I would highly recommend The Halliburton and especially the dining experience.

We were really hoping for the best but were so underwhelmed. The room was fine but the bed appeared to measure as a "double" not a "queen", the hotel was very understaffed and seemed unprepared. For instance when they replaced the coffee/tea, in our room, they did not replace the mugs (so could not use the Keurig), they would bring our breakfast but forget the cutlery (the scone and bagel were bone cold by the time we received the cutlery)...Often when we tried to call the front desk there was no answer and it was easier to walk down to the reception (in another building) to sort out things. It was unfortunate that the restaurant was not open but we were prepared for this, what we were not prepared for was the uber small tv (not a smart tv) and we felt that we were an afterthought and not guests.

As I recall, it starts at 7:00 a.m., but best check with the hotel: 1-902-420-0658.
There is limited parking. No pool.
I didn't stay in the main building, but I do know that they are each different and the various rooms are all configured differently. The staff there are most accommodating. and informative. they will take your calls almost any time of day and give answers to your satisfaction... and then some. A steep set of three or four steps gets you in to the front door of each building. I saw doors at the rear but did did not use it, so not sure of regular access. I think they monitor front door entry and exit for security reasons. As for extra features, each room is a bit different. My room had a queen bed with an extra little room with a twin bed in it. Nicely appointed with antiques and bath products. Continental breakfast is just ok, but a nice coffee shop is on the corner if you want to change it up. Enjoy your trip!
