My partner and I are local and recently stayed here for a quick staycation. We were very pleasantly surprised at both the high quality of service and the comfort/cleanliness of the rooms. We met with a very friendly staff member upon check-in and were please with the additional services offered - such as free breakfast (which was eaten in our room due to COVID). The room was spotless and comfortable, and we were surprised how quiet the rooms were considering we were next to a highway.

I just recently stayed at the Chateau Bedford to visit Nova Scotia for the first time to scratch a few things off the bucket list. My wife and I are from Ontario and have friends that are living here. We wanted to do some sightseeing and spend some time with our good friends. When staying at this hotel they almost make you feel like you're part of a large extended family. The agents on the desk give you a warm maritime welcome and all the service we experienced was top notch. The breakfast is absolutely delicious with tons of variety and the room was spotless from top to bottom. If we ever make it back this way this is definitely where we will be staying.

Fantastic breakfast idea.... Guests complete a breakfast sandwich order in advance..... Egg, bacon, home-made bread, fixings etc. It's waiting for pick up in the morning at a pre-selected time along with juice and coffee. Brilliant idea for a highway hotel. Best breakfast of our trip.

I’ll start with the problems we encountered during our stay first.
During breakfast the attendant (who obviously should not be working in the hospitality profession) made a remark about my child which was very unnecessary (leaving my son to ask me later why she was mean to him).. to then when I inquired about the eggos she had popping out of the toaster if we could have just those instead of her making the full sandwich with the egg and bacon in the middle she said “no”. Did not offer any other options such as the muffin or grain bar we were offered during our last covid stay. She then made another rude comment of her own personal opinion on the use of three sugars in our coffee. That’s a triple triple at Tim Hortons and I didn’t ask for your opinion or your personal attack on my family for breakfast! Completely disgusted with how this went down! I did not stand up for myself but I really Hope management looks Into your lack of professionalism!!
Second the pool bathroom door does not close or lock and though the pool is booked due to covid there are still cameras and that makes changing especially with two small children VERY extra difficult and cringe worthy. I would rather not track pool water through your hotel so please fix your facilities!
Third for covid cleaning standards walking into our room and having food crumbs noticeable upon entry and than a long black hair on the bed is really gross!
Fourth and this is been unchanged for years... the pool room is so hot it’s hard to breathe and the water is cold! We have brought this to management for years during almost every stay and it has yet to change.

This is really unfortunate because we stay here quite a bit. The staff (usually) are extremely professional, friendly and accommodating. It’s great they offer hospital rates and that they have a pool and breakfast. The rooms are (usually) clean (outdated but clean) and roomy. They offer hand sanitizer in the entry way and the staff are wearing their mandatory masks. I know it’s a strange thing with all the new rules but our issues this stay just left us really looking for a different hotel for our next visit.

I booked this hotel for 2 nights (Oct 16-18) for my daughter's 15th Birthday, and made that very clear when I booked here. I was told nothing special could be done, using the excuse as covid19. We had lousy internet service, and I could not upload my daughter's birthday pictures. on the morning of Oct 17, someone came knocking and we put dogs away, and then the person was gone? Then when I asked to book my daughter pool time for Sat night, I was told it was full, and again nothing on Sunday morning before we departed back to Pictou. It is now 11 PM and there is still screaming coming rom the pool and in the hallways. Not impressed at all with this hotel, as the Staff here are not even friendly, and at breakfast this morning I was asked if there were two people in my room when I went to get myself and my daughter a silly breakfast sandwich. Wether I paid $100 a night plus taxes, or from using my hard earned reward points, we would not stay here again. We could have stayed in a much more prestigious hotel downtown Halifax and been closer to everything we came here for. Thank you.

Nice enough hotel, travelling as a family for hockey tournament. Stayed for 2 nights, but after the first night our room was not cleaned and had to call front desk to replenish basic needed items such as towels and toilet tissue etc. Pre-ordered breakfast but still had to wait 40 minutes for it when time had been stipulated in the pre-order process.

We checked into the Chateau Bedford and the staff were very friendly. Very quickly upon arrival we noticed a lot of teens gathering in the hallways and public spaces - some sort of sports team it seemed. Many were roaming the hallways not wearing masks, and were being very loud. I know the staff had to talk to them a few times and this isn't necessarily the fault of the hotel, but this was an issue for us.

The rooms were nicely appointed, if a bit tight quarters for our family of 4. The fan has an always on option, which is always key for us when visiting a hotel.

The pool was disappointing - it says it is heated, but if it is then I'm not sure what to. The air in the pool was warm, but the pool was definitely too cold for me. 2/3 of my kids got in, but not for long. There were others there as well who expressed the same - definitely not very well heated.

We ended up leaving after 2 nights to find a warmer pool, as that's what we were looking forward too during our trip with the kids.

I can see that this hotel would be great for business travellers or those visiting family in the area who are looking for a nice place to sleep. The morning breakfast was also a nice idea (pre ordered breakfast sandwich to your liking) and was always ready on time.

I booked a room that would accommodate 3 adults or two adults and two children. My wife and I are travelling with our 28 YO son. I took a second review and only saw a King size bed in the room. I called the hotel to enquire and was told that the king size beds are large enough to fit 3 adults. I was absolutely shocked that hey would advertise a room that accommodates 3 adults with only one king size bed. This is absolutely ridiculous. Thank goodness I canceled l the reservation prior to showing up and trying to stuff three large adults in a single bed. They need to be far more accurate in what they advertise as a room that sleeps 3 aduts.

Booked a early check due to medication and food prior to our game. Called hours before to confirm early check in as we were driving quite a ways, only to find out check in is at 430 sharp. The manager stated they give first priority to people who requested. That was not the case when we arrived, seemed everyone except for myself and another persons room wasn’t ready. I know this because they were on my team. We had a later game on check out. We asked for a later check out than 11. The lady stated they don’t give late check outs to teams. When booking we were told no pets allowed ,however when we arrived dogs were coming in and out. And during our stay dogs were barking in the hotel! The hot breakfast consists of a breakfast sandwich or a small plate of food! I would not stay there again. We didn’t even get asked how our stay was when checking out.

Anytime I check into the hotel be it with Shauna, Matt, Jonathan or Chloe I am always greeted with a friendly smile (currently masked) and a welcoming attitude. They always go above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible.

They are doing their best to work within the guidelines they need to during the pandemic and are doing a fantastic job. I really enjoy the fact that you're able to book out your own private swim time for you and your party. Where they are not currently allowed to offer the Buffet Breakfast they have shifted to offering guests a fresh to order Hot Breakfast Sandwich. They have partnered with local bakeries to offer their guests the freshest product possible.

I feel like the Chateau Bedford is my home away from home and I always look forward to my next stay there.

is there the option of public transport to downtown--if not how much would a taxi be ?

This hotel is in a great central location to access any direction in the province by car- you can just pop on the highway and be off. I believe it isn't a great option for relying public transportation to downtown Halifax though; it's too far and would be pricey.

I would DEFINITELY contact the hotel directly...that is a very special occasion indeed. To answer your question about shampoo etc, yes, as in any hotel really, there are little bottles of these things. Oh and FYI, their towels are really fluffy!!
