The Barrington Hotel stands out for its prime location, which is frequently applauded by travelers for its close proximity to key attractions and dining options. However, the hotel's rooms often disappoint guests, who find them outdated and lacking in cleanliness, with some also mentioning the rooms are cramped and uncomfortable. While the service and atmosphere receive mixed reviews—some guests encounter friendly staff, others experience slow or unresponsive service. Additionally, despite the central location, the hotel is criticized for not providing sufficient value for money and having inconsistent amenities.

This hotel used to be run by a good chain that 9/10 ran a good hotel. I got a great rate online and thought something may too good to be true here. But overall it is a good stay. overnight parking is on the high side at $27 + tax per night, but location makes it easy to park it and not worry about it. Rooms are fine, check in was fine.
They went with the less expensive sports pack in the room, as I couldn't watch the raptors game on TSN1 that night. Which was a bummer. All in all for a decent hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your overall stay however we are so sorry to hear about your disappointment with the parking prices. Parking is limited and a premium in the downtown area but we apologize that this was not what you expected it to be. We hope that we can welcome you back to exceed your expectations.

This hotel is tired and well worn ripe for a rehab - appears it’s heyday was in the 80’s. However, there are several positives that make me overlook it. Of all the major hotels in downtown Halifax, this one along with sister property Hotel Halifax are priced the cheapest. My stay was $72 with parking. (Mind you there are few tourists around due to COVID hence the price). They will match 3rd party website pricing (which you should do to support local and they don’t lose commission money to huge travel resellers). The WIFI is strong and fast, rooms are clean (bit on smaller side), location is excellent for nearby walking attractions. Staff are very friendly. If you are a GoodLife fitness member, their facility is in same complex and entrance right off lobby beside elevators.

We were greeted at the "pullover" in front by smiling helpful staff , advised as to the best parking, reassured that our vehicle would be safe while we checked in.

Inside we were guided to our room, greeted by the tech guy who advised that our tv was having a problem. He arranged our room adjustment and helped with the luggage

We ate in the on site restaurant , staff were so friendly .

An interesting old fashioned hotel with crisp white duvets , first class shampoo/conditioner/soap,etc.

The pool was clean and pleasant , towels plentiful , gym looked inviting

If it is showing it's age , it is doing so gracefully .
We would book there again

Let me first say, this hotel was MUCH better when it was run by delta, it has since changed hands and it shows. We started our stay with an a/c unit with a broken fan, water damage on the ceiling, and not that it's wildly important but also wound up with a courtyard view when we paid for a city view and we were not offered a room change. The parking was unavailable so we had to pay 24$ extra a day to park in scotia Sq parkade. There's no continental breakfast which is meh, but we were told by staff that we could avail of the breakfast and the Halifax hotel as they are sister hotels (?) When we got there the manager there apologized up and down but said no, that is not the case. The pool is small, very shallow, and VERY chlorinated..... its not regularly cleaned so they compensate by using extra chlorine. The same rodent sized hair ball was in the pool area for 3 days. There is no daily house keeping, its not offered. The rooms are dated and there only 2 USB charge ports (next to the bed) and a plug in (in the bathroom) we paid 700 for 3 nights and I've stayed in cleaner motels on the side of the highway.

The ONLY redeeming factor is its location, it's central to everything one might want to see and is connected to all pedwalks, so location wise it is convenient.

10/10 wouldn't stay here again.

I'd recommend the Halifax hotel instead.

This hotel is an older building in reasonably good condition and kept adequately clean. The biggest problem is the service provided by Hotel staff who are not properly trained or are indifferent when it comes to customer service.
Here are several examples of poor customer service:

1). Check-in time is advertised at 03:00pm. My family and I arrived at 03:15 and were told the room was not cleaned yet and were told to come back in 30 minutes. We came back at 03:45 and were told the room was still not ready. We returned at 04:30pm. Finally the room was ready but no apology for delay.

2). There is no onsite parking but there is public parking 3 blocks away up a large hill where the Hotel has some kind of arrangement. None of the front desk staff knew how to get to the parking lot. They gave me a crudely drawn map with directions which was hard to read. I asked for more of an explanation and the staff person I spoke to said “I don’t really know…I don’t drive”.

3). I asked for a Cot for the room at 04:30 and was told it would be brought to the room within the hour. At 07:30 I went back to the front desk and the staff person I spoke to said they would have a cot sent to the room in 30 minutes. Finally at 08:30 I went back to the front desk and the cot arrived at the room about 45 minutes later. Again no apology for delays and for making me inquire in person 3 times at the desk (the phone line to the desk was constantly busy).

If this Hotels service would improve it would be a nice place to stay, if you are not elderly or disabled, and a great value for downtown Halifax.

Fridge in the room was not functional; I told desk clerk that the problem was a large block of ice which had formed over the cooling apparatus making it totally dysfunctional; she said that a maintenance person would be up to check.
Said person arrived and said that the fridge was not functioning - DUH - that was the complaint.
He left saying he would go to look for a replacement.
Ended up putting items which needed cooling in a garbage bin (which I sterilised ) with a load of ice. We then went out for a meal and some entertainment.
When we got back several hours later nothing had been done. We never heard another word from maintenance or front desk.
Went to the desk to inquire and the (different) desk person had no idea of the problem to which I was referring.
She said that she would get someone to look into the problem.
I told her to forget it. I had taken the fridge out of the cubicle and using hot water and a hair dryer managed to extricate the ice and get the fridge working again.
REALLY TERRIBLE SERVICE
AND Was quite disappointed to see that in what purports to be a higher end hotel, they were providing plastic cups in the rooms.
Not environmentally helpful nor aesthetically pleasing. Desk clerk said that she was quite new but thought perhaps it had to do with Covid protocols
NOT No other Covid protocols of any kind seemed to be in practice

We didn’t want anything too pricey since we wouldn’t be spending most of our time at the hotel. The hotel has a pool/gym (we didn’t use) and a restaurant for breakfast attached. We actually didn’t end up eating there because it closed so early.
Some pictures and when you enter the lobby makes you believe the hotel is pretty modern/updated but that’s not the case. It’s pretty old/outdated in the rooms. Again, if all you want to do is sleep there, it’s not a bad option. It’s proximity to the harbour front and other fun streets with restaurants is great! It also is attached to the tunnels to get from place to place without freezing/getting wet - Bonus! Price was right, staff was friendly. They did not do daily housekeeping but I’m sure if we requested it, they would have.
Parking is across the street for $23/daily, like a 2-5 minute walk using escalators/elevators to get there. Overall, I would say it’s decent hotel and would use it again if they had the same pay for 2 get the 3rd night free deal!

Upon making a reservation, i have asked multiple times for a connecting room and have booked the one that the reservations team advised me to book. However, it was not guaranteed i still informed them the importance of having a connecting room as we are travelling with an infant. Upon arrival, Front Desk Mai did our check in and mentioned that she is unable to give us a connecting room as we have booked different room categories. I was surprised to hear her say that it would be difficult for her to find a connecting room for us as it was different room categories. She recommended to change one of my room categories for us to be able to have a connecting room. I have agreed to do this just not to make a scene. During this time i have asked information about the parking lot. However, she did not inform us the full details on how we are going to be able to park in their designated area. A charge of $23+Tax was the fee. Upon going to the parking lot there is a code which the front desk will provide if you agree to pay. They did not provide me the code even though i have deposited an amount of $150 per room. It was quite disappointing, However, the housekeeping staff were very helpful of our needs and very friendly. Hoping they would not complicate things for the guest upon check in and make it more simpler. It was an unsatisfying stay for me and my family. ☹️

Very comfortable hotel situated on a
well lit main street, very well located
for those who enjoy walking to nearby restaurants, pubs, and shopping.
The waterfront with all its history,
the Citadel, monuments and parks
are all a short distance away. The
adjoining restaurant on the property
was perfect for breakfast with very
friendly staff, excellent food and
freshly brewed Starbucks coffee.
The rooms were spacious, with very
good beds oh so good pillows and
good showers We spent several days
there as part of a train tour from
Vancouver, aptly named Enjoy Canada,
and this hotel fit perfectly. Even though
it was during Halloween, and the
costumes were sometimes scary this is
one of the friendliest cities I've visited.

You can park at the nearby in-door parking lot, that is attached to Scotia Square. The Barrington Hotel is attached to the Scotia Square mall through a rather complicated indoor path system. If you have a lot of luggage this may not be the best option though.
