The hotel itself is very well laid out. Some updates would help but the staff here is the best I've ever had a pleasure of dealing with. Above and beyond customer service. Desk staff, maintenance persons. The rooms are decent size, we stayed in a Harborview room with balcony, 2 double beds. Anything we asked for was provided from parking validation, making grill cheese for my kids at front desk is amazing itself. The gentleman who reminded me of a viking came to our room to bring shower gel and was a pleasure to talk to, had a good laugh. I asked him when they started hiring vikings. There is a great pool and area. There is a 24/7 game room with 3 systems for kids and kids at heart or gamers. It's close to everything one could need as a traveler and is connected to Scotia Square and Pedway access to Casino, parking, business access , Halifax Mooseheads games are within 5 mins walk. There is construction which isn't controllable and annoying but it didn't effect us other than visually and to be honest this building is very soundproof so no issues there or interruptions. I would say the price point is close to value for amenities and rooms. I was disapointed it was advertised there is a hot tub but it wasn't in pool area and I assumed was part of the spa. There is a small fridge and coffee maker but no microwave which also was disapointing but again the front staff accomodated myself and children. When the staff actually care it makes a huge difference and all staff were very friendly and real people sharing their stories, opinions and extending a helping word or hand with everything and anything. A huge thank you to you all working here. Be proud of yourselves. I was in room 149 for 2 days. Great job to you all. 👏

This hotel has been updated some—it’s clean and comfortable. The sink is outside the bathroom, to give an idea of its age, but nicely updated with new countertops and tiles. The bathroom light is set to turn on automatically when you walk into the toilet/bathtub. It turns off about 15 minutes later, which is dreadful for those who need to go to the bathroom in the night, but don’t want to wake up completely. Beds are comfortable. Staff is very polite, though they don’t always follow up with requests. It took me two days to get additional paper cups out of them. The location is handy to many places downtown, though when we were there the road work made getting into and out of the parking lot a daily puzzle. Presumably, that will resolve soon. All in all, a decent place to stay.

GOOD: Great location close to shops, restaurants, downtown area - walk one way from the hotel and you are along the harbourfront, walk the opposite way and you are right at the famous Citadel. The room #301 was spacious with great harbour views, king size bed, sofa, table, coffee centre. Free parking due to being an Expedia VIP member (normally you have to pay $25/day for parking). BAD: Very Disappointed with staff at front desk who didn't speak English very fluently, stayed 4 nights and nobody cleaned our room for a single day (so much for COVID cleanliness), had to beg for clean towels and refill of used products from the coffee station - even had to ask for bathroom tissue at the front desk - highly embarrassing and shocking for this kind of service.

The good: the hotel is clean, the location is close to major sites like The Citadel and not far from the waterfront and downtown. And the staff distinguish themselves by being attentive and responsive.
The bad: the hotel is located in a shopping mall with office towers around it. It is not easy to get directly in or out of the hotel. At the moment there is construction, because the road is being reconstructed outside, so in addition to just being generally not direct, it is now extremely unpleasant and difficult to enter and exit the hotel. One must enter, nondescript doors nearly a city block away to get into the mall and walk across the mall and then go downstairs or an elevator to get to the hotel lobby. And after hours it is worse. One must enter the hotel across the street, enter another office building and bridge across the street and then go around the corner up an escalator, over, down and around to get to the hotel. It is truly unpleasant and adds substantial time to getting from the hotel to the city or vice versa.
The hotel building also looks like it has not been renovated since 1995, and that’s being generous. From bunching carpets to peeling wallpaper and holes in the curtains, it really looks like it has been cleaned, but not kept up in good shape for a long time. The room key system is at least a decade outdated with room keys that easily get deprogrammed. I had to go up and down between my room and reception to fix a problem where my key wouldn’t work. From the door knobs to the elevator buttons, everything looks like it is untouched from decades ago. One wonders why the hotel management has not taken the hotel out of service to renovate given the condition. The location in the mall coupled with the construction, and the outdated facility are such that I would sooner look to stay elsewhere on my next visit.

Dear Avis_12, I want to thank you for sharing your detailed feedback around your visit. While driving isn't impacted, typically the hotel is accessed via Barrington street, but given the Cogswell redevelopment, we are reliant on the mall for easiest access to the downtown area. Generally this is not an inconvenience, however, as they lock the mall at 9PM, the alternative route does add time to that walk once the mall closes. That said, we have worked with the Barrington Hotel adjacent to the mall to allow guest access to the pedway and both the Barrington and Scotia Square to install signage to make this as easy as possible. We are focused on making sure we price fairly for our product, and typically we are $80-100 less per night than the average downtown room night. We work hard to deliver on service, cleanliness and working condition, and show accurate pictures of the properties styling, however I can appreciate your comments. A significant hotel renovation is slated for 2025 that will modernize the product. Thank you again and I hope you consider our property should future travel bring you through Halifax. Sincerely, Michael Bogardus Front Office Manager

My family and I travelled to Halifax this past weekend. We booked Hotel Halifax. So happy we did! My girls are very picky, and they give it a thumbs up!
Clean, reasonably priced (for the summer, compared to others in the area) We were in room 108. We had 2 double beds, a few doors down from the pool and the fitness centre.
One thing that stuck out about this hotel is they have free ice cold filtered water throughout the hotel for guests. This alone saved us a ton of money. Water prices on the boardwalk were ridiculous. Just bring your won refillable water jug or reuse a water bottle
We had breakfast delivered from the restaurant in the lobby. Very good food.
The boardwalk is about a 7-8 min walk. Lots to see and do. We ate at many restaurants but really enjoyed Salty's - best seafood ever!
Shoutout the Ludmila at the front desk who welcomed us and helped us with parking. She was so helpful and kind. All staff very welcoming. Our maid was great, bringing us extra towel when needed.
would definitely book this hotel again.

Ideal location if coming into Halifax on the bus from the airport as it's only a very short walk to the hotel via Scotia Square shopping mall. Check in was a good start and was offered a room upgrade. Unfortunately one of the there lifts was out of use throughout my two nights stay causing some waits at busy times. My room was spacious with king size bed, sofa, desk. Via a small area with coffee machine and bathroom included full size bath with shower. WiFi worked well. Breakfast was in the adjoining restaurant next to the front desk although not included in the room rate.

My family stayed in a harbor view room at 5th floor for 3 nights and we loved it. Checked in was fast and the receptionist was very friendly, everything was done and we were ready to go in less than 10 min. The room was very spacious, clean, and beds were comfortable. We used the coffee maker to get hot water and surprisingly the water didn't smell coffee at all. And the desk clock also had USB port, which was definitely a plus and frequently missing from older hotels. During our stay, the construction was still going on. But the view was still nice. Also because of the construction, we couldn't get to the hotel directly from Barrington St. Instead, we usually went through the pathway connected to Barrington hotel(or the Barrington hotel building), or through Scotia square. Both exits on Duke st were not too far apart. And the pathway through Barrington hotel eventually merged to Scotia square so eventually you would be inside Scotia square. It was very nice about Scotia square directly connected to the hotel entrance. Food court was right next to the hotel entrance. McDonald opened 7 days a week if you wanted to have a quick breakfast before heading out. Lawtons drug and Dollarama also nearby. About location, we took bus 320 from airport to downtown. The bus stop was less than a minute away from Scotia square entrance. Simply go through Scotia square and you would arrive hotel in no time! Just a side note, there was no bus stop for 320 on the other side of Duke street. The bus ran in one direction only. On the map, it looked like Hotel Halifax was on the far end and not very convenient. That's not true, it was very close to Waterfront. Instead of spending extra staying in the middle of the town, you could use you saved to have fun instead. There were three elevators and one of them was broken. We found the elevators were a bit slow at the beginning. Then later on realized it was slow only when many people getting in and out on lower floors. After all, my family were very happy about our stay. The price was very reasonable and we didn't feel like scarifying anything at all. We would definitely stay again if we return.

Hotel Halifax was my choice during a recent visit to Halifax. I selected it in part because it is located at the hub of where public transit carries passengers to the airport. It's not a small consideration: the bus costs CA$4.25 and is a three-stop express that takes under an hour to get to and from the airport, which can be compared to rideshare or taxi fares upwards of $100. Given that Hotel Halifax was very well-appointed, and its rate was comparable to the Marriott/Hilton offerings, I'm glad I made the choice.

Our third stop on our tour of the maritimes was the Hotel Halifax. It had a great location close to the pier and it was connected to the indoor walkway that connected to the mall, the casino, and other hotels and businesses downtown. This was very convenient on the day it rained during our stay! The rooms were very spacious and had very comfortable beds. No issues with hot water, air conditioning or internet. An unexpected bonus was having a water refill machine on each floor to fill up reusable water bottles. There was no breakfast included but the hotel was connected to the indoor food court at the mall and there were lots of restaurants nearby. At the hotel you can pay for parking at the indoor parking garage connected to the hotel, and it allowed in and out privileges. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommended to anyone wanting to stay in the waterfront area!

I really didn’t like this place, part of accommodations on my Road Scholar tour who regularly uses this hotel. Awkward location with highway ramps complicating access. Attached to the dying Scotia Centre, too many empty storefronts and not easy access (corridors and stairs even with the elevator). Do tour groups automatically get less desirable rooms down lengthy corridors? Place in need of overhaul. pool had standing water on tiles creating slippery surface. Meals were horrific; I took a simple yogurt and coffee for breakfast. And if you want to charge snacks at the front desk be prepared for $150 hold on your charge! And every time I talked to reception they immediately said ‘You’re in the wrong room.” No, I am in the room YOU assigned me. The staff for our buffets were nice, probably also wished they were serving better food. And you can’t use the stairs if you are on their first floor; in actuality there are 14 floors between the lobby and floor 1.

Hi. I know there is an indoor swlmming pool and fitness centre. I didn't use either but had a look in and I am not certain but think there is a jacuzzi.
I believe that you will have a patio door that walks out onto a concrete courtyard.
Views of the City are amazing from the 10th floor banquet/office meeting facilities. Wedding reception etc. Area.
1st floor is just convenient to pool etc.
There are more places to choose from in the Halifax area.
