This place is a surprise. A beautiful building of another period beautifully updated but keeping all the features that make it an intimate home away from home. The staff are incredibly helpful and relaxed. It is quiet but very close to a lot of Halifax's attractions within walking distance. What a gem it is

We stayed 3 nights, to visit Halifax. We were enchanted by the hotel, the location, the cleanliness, the breakfast, the free parking (when available) and the professional staff. Even the decor. The price was also very good. We would return.

An absolutely charming little hotel, very cozy and comfortable. Located across from the VG Hospital it is convenient for out of town stays for medical treatments. And you get a discount if there for medical reasons. Speaking of discounts, you also get a discount at Le Bistro (just down the road) for staying at GSPI. Good breakfast buffet and great coffee. Paul was terrific!

Service: The folks at check in/out were very friendly and helpful, especially as we needed to park on the street due to their lot being under construction (not sure if they have enough spaces for each room either). They were able to provide good information on street parking rules and parking in the hospital parking lot across the street. Room: The room was average at best. I'm not sure what the deal was, but it never truly felt dry. There's no ventilation in the bathroom, so it gets super steamy and bleeds into the room itself, which is on the smaller side. Our room was below ground level (garden level, if you will), which might have accounted for the moisture. Even the AC unit didn't dry it out much. That said, we didn't spend much time in the room other than to sleep. The door allowed a ton of light from the hallway to bleed in, and you can hear other guests moving around quite loudly outside. The bed was very firm and the pillows were old and flat. Housekeeping: They don't follow the "hang up towels to use again" thing that they say. We received new towels each morning we were there. Our bed was only re-made two of the three mornings we were there. Location: The inn is located across from a hospital, which we though might create noise, but it didn't. That said, it's just a couple blocks from the Public Gardens and a bunch of shops and restaurants. It's also a short walk to the Citadel and downtown. Heck, we even walked from a North End restaurant and it wasn't bad. The only downside is that it's uphill from the downtown area and the waterfront, but it really is a great spot to see everything Halifax has to offer. The location is really the best part of the inn. They offered a continental breakfast in the morning in a nice dining room, but we never took advantage of it, choosing to eat out each day.

We drove from Cape Breton Island and used GPS to find the location. The neighborhood is quiet and felt very safe. The staff member ego greeted us was very warm and accommodating. Our room is comfortable. The breakfast options are limited but tasty.

Good location. Easy to walk down to the harbourfront area. The room was clean and free of clutter. Breakfast was the basic continental. Breakfast didn't start until 8am, so if leaving earlier, you didn't get. The bed was extremely hard to sleep on. We woke up with sore backs.

To my mind this definitely not a 4 star hotel, closer to 2 stars. The room was adequate, clean though the carpet is rather stained, in need of replacement. Bed was comfortable enough, but I don’t like blankets and bed spreads, as I am sure they are not changed between guests visits. Shower was fine in a low bath tub. Towels clean but small. Breakfast was served from 8.00 am, which for a downtown hotel can be too late for many guests! Breakfast itself was rather basic with packets of bread and muffins on a help your self basis plus cold boiled eggs. Personally I prefer crusty rolls for breakfast. No croissants either.
