The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites offers a luxurious and historic atmosphere that captivates guests with its elegant decor and modern touches. While the hotel's cleanliness receives commendations, some guests have experienced delays in room servicing. The rooms are a blend of contemporary amenities and elements that some find dated, yet they remain comfortable and occasionally spacious. Service is generally excellent, with staff members who are attentive and professional, though a few lapses have been noted. Amenities, including in-room Nespresso machines and a quality restaurant, add to the convenience, and the hotel's prime location near attractions is a highlight for many. However, noise can be an issue for some guests, and opinions on value are mixed, with prices sometimes considered steep relative to room quality.

Great location - Spring Garden Road is one of the main drags by the Dalhousie university and is a mecca of activity with tons of restaurant options, a full mall with an express liquor store, two pharmacies, and is right across from the Public Gardens - all within a 5 min walk of the hotel.

The restaurant on site - The Arms - is a classic English Pub with fare you'd expect from a coastal city, largely seafood with classic comfort fare and a wide selection of liquor and spirits. Prices are high (VERY high for the main courses) but portions are very generous and you might find you won't be able to finish your plate. The Arms has a welcoming vibe and is a great spot to spend an hour for a pint or an afternoon with your mates.

I found the hotel very clean, but either the cleaning staff uses a lot of scented products or the business people who stay there are always heavily perfumed. In either case, if your are scent-sensitive, you might have an issue wandering through the main/public areas.

I stayed in a Queen room on the top floor. My view was to the back of the building which offered all of the silver vents and the generators. The window could be opened, but all the noise it let in wasn't worth it. The bed was firm, the floor was a nice dark color, The TV was Smart-feature enabled (you can Chromecast or cast from your phone for Netflix etc) and I rented Deadpool and Wolverine for slightly cheaper than it was being offered through Google. For a business-class room, it felt more like, say, a smaller-class room similar to a Holiday Inn Express or a Marriott Courtyard.

Amenities are otherwise slim - they have one debit/credit card-required drink machine on the 5th floor (Coke products only despite the Arms being a Pepsi distributor), no snack/toiletries/etc machine, and did not have advil/tylenol on site when asked.

Staff is incredibly friendly and pleasant. It's definitely a side-effect of living in Halifax - if you're not from around there, you'll find that strangers will actually say hello to you and/or you'll notice how polite everyone is to one another and actually smile when looked at. I got called 'Sir' so many times during my stay that I thought I was in the military. It's good travel etiquette, though - be polite and accommodating to the staff and you'll have a much happier stay.

We had a great stay at the Lord Nelson. The location is excellent, close to Dalhousie University, restaurants, shopping, and the Public Gardens. The rooms are modern and clean. The aetvice is friendly, and the Arms Pub is very good!

This historic hotel feels like being in your own movie set: the lobby gleams as you step in, and the adjoining hotel restaurant serves a reasonably varied and priced menu in an environment that feels like a classic film.

The solo room was compact and cozy with plenty of room to move around, and the Nespresso coffee pods were a nice touch of luxury for the day. The toiletries were a pleasant lemongrass smell that was not irritating, and the beds were what one would expect of a hotel. Hotel WiFi was complimentary and fast enough for video conferencing, and the 52" television had network TV, screen sharing, and movie features options.

The staff are really great, and I encourage you to speak with the concierges who are knowledgeable about the local area and go above and beyond in making your stay that much more pleasant.

The Lord Nelson is an older well kept historic Hotel in the center of downtown Halifax across the street from a Public Garden. There are many retails and eating establishments within walking distance, including a nice restaurant on site. A major hospital is just a 10 minute walk from the Hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms are well appointed and quiet. They also have attached underground heated parking. So you can just park your car and walk to many of the establishments or tourist locations. I stayed here to be able to walk to the hospital to be with a family member.

The cleaning lady was very good, front desk very friendly and addressed our problem right away: we just had difficulty with opening the room door; the handy man came right away and fixed it. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect.

Power outage therefore no water, shower or brush teeth. No call from front desk advising what was happening or how to get down to the lobby. Walked down 9 flights being pregnant with bags with no offer of assistance from staff. Classic room was very small and the TV had minimal viewing and remote didn't work well. Room was clean and had a great sleep otherwise.

Really enjoyed the historical value of this stay! Details of the 1920-30.. in the foyer .. great spot for some pics! Excellent meal at their restaurant with great drinks and service . Check in was a breeZe, I chose a deal with a Mini room since I wasn’t sure how long the medical appointments would take and they offered a medical visit rate. The bathroom walls etc are well maintained and a little dated but don’t let that stop you! Most immaculate bathroom with fluffy white towels and high quality toiletries .. body cream was great! Linen and the comforter were bright white , clean and smelled amazing, pillows were awesome and the bed was super comfy.. you melt into it! Nespresso machine with coffee, tea kettle and tea, sugar, and fridge has milk and cream, long stem wine glasses, glass nespresso coffee cups, glass drinking cups.. and 2 bottled water daily ..all touches that hotels offered years ago! Most you will not find now. Small desk for paperwork , closet with suitcase holder . Call the front desk and request room service menu , I wish I knew this the first night because the room service was fabulous and fast .. local scallops and a roasted romaine salad to die for ! Room is small so a couple could make it work.. only thing was they should have a lock inside the door for added protection as a woman travelling alone.. I like the extra safety lock most hotels have.. but aside from these things it was great! Every day there was more coffee in my room, bed made , toiletries replenished and bathroom cleaned.. upgrade to a larger room for more than 2 people! Oh ya fabulous location .. very convenient !

This place is incredibly frustrating. The entrance hall gives all the classic demeanour of a bygone age and does so with impeccable style, so too do the Conceirge team. And yet the rooms while adequate aren't much better than a typical 'corporate' chain, with lights not working, and missing plugs for the sinks. The food strikes off the most stars though as it is decidedly poor. I ordered a simple scrambled egg and bacon breakfast and got some god awful overly salty processed potatoes, two disgustingly bland sausages, scrambled egg that had the watery tang of that stuff that comes from a bag (despite the waitress's assurance it wasn't,) and two slices of cardboard that masqueraded as 'gluten free' bread. There was no bacon at all. The staff took the offending breakfast off the bill so I'll grant them that, but really, they need to do so much better considering the initial impression of the place.

I selected the Lord Nelson Hotel after researching various locations and decided that I preferred this location instead of the waterfront. When we arrived, I was very glad we did; it is located right across the street from the beautiful Public Gardens, close walking distance to various excellent restaurants, shops, and the Citadel. The waterfront is a walkable 15 minutes away, just be advised that while it is downhill from the hotel, it is uphill via some very steep hills. We chose taxi and Uber instead. We opted for the breakfast package, which was order off the menu and very good. We had dinner one night at the hotel restaurant, The Arms, which was very good. The staff is friendly and helpful. We opted for the Classic King, which was on the small size (especially the bathroom) but was very comfortable and had a slight view out the window of the Gardens. Great hotel choice, I highly recommend the Lord Nelson and would stay there again when in Halifax.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is perfectly positioned to explore the Citadel, waterfront, Northend, and public gardens. The lounge area is beautifully decorated, with interesting and eclectic furniture. I particularly liked the fresh floral arrangements that complimented the decor. The rooms don’t quite live up to the promise of the lobby. The first one we had was smaller than an NYC room and not really worth the price tag. However, when we complained the staff were very accommodating and moved us immediately to a larger room. All rooms come with tea and coffee making facilities, including fresh milk and cream in the fridge. We didn’t discover the restaurant until the last night, and I wish we had discovered it earlier. The food was delicious and it was very pleasant having a drink on the terrace overlooking the park.

I would suggest calling the hotel to ask. They have a luggage storage room and are friendly and accomodating, but I wouldn't assume that they can do it without asking.
