Visited here on a business trip to Halifax. Location of the hotel was great for where I needed to be.
I was here for 3 days and the service was great for the entire stay. I ate at the restaurant a couple of times, food and service was great.
Room was spacious and facilities all good. Gym was quiet with good facilities.

Arrived to free valet parking with great staff to leaving hotel with great efficiency and friendly smiles . This new hotel and our first Sutton hotel experience was fantastic. We got a lovely room upgrade room 1613 it had stunning views of Halifax the room itself was modern, trendy and absolutely spotless and had everything you would ever want . We particularly loved the bathroom & super comfortable bed. This hotel deserves to be the best judging the standards they set on this visit. Loved the staff enthusiastic, not over bearing and genuine people. We enjoyed everything about our stay especially your location to downtown Halifax. Good luck everyone at Sutton place and hang onto you wonderful staff. Special mention to the Valet welcoming team created with a smile left with a bigger smile. Thanks

I reaaaally loved my stay here!! I spent 11 nights so you can bet I got the chance to test out all the amenities, the restaurant (Chop), the bar, and the surrounding shops & nightlife. First off, this is bar none, the cleanest place I’ve ever stayed. The beds are made so tight you’d stay put if someone flipped the building upside down (OMG the bed is like a ☁️,🤤), the Nespresso pods (yes, my room had a Nespresso machine 🤩) are each in their own little leather cradle, and the GIANT shower was spotless. Speaking of the shower, this is the first place I’ve stayed where they went to such lengths to curate the perfect experience, that they even put the shower controls on the opposite wall, so your hand doesn’t get wet when you turn it on…. I’ve watched enough reno shows to know that means water pipes in both walls, not something you see every day and I loved it.
Ok so for the amenities let’s start with the gym. Honestly, I’ve been to worse dedicated recreation facilities…. Again, it was so so clean, smelled great, had a full selection of free weights and machines, and tons of natural light. Next, the restaurant and bar. The food was to die for 😵, you definitely need to get the prime rib, honestly best steak I’ve ever had!! On top of the great food, the bartenders and servers were so friendly and weren’t shy to strike up a conversation, which I really appreciated since I was travelling alone 😊.
Location-wise, I don’t think it’s possible to get any more central than this…. In fact, the street attached to the front of the building is the most popular street in Halifax by far (Argyle). So if your touring around, or if you want a pub, restaurant, late night poutine/shwarma/donair, whatever, you could probably keep an eye on the inside of your hotel room from anywhere you’d want to be in the downtown core. (Shout out to James, the concierge for helping me around town).
I guess lastly, I’m really impressed by the quality of staff they’ve found. Enthusiastic, helpful, and kind doesn’t even begin to describe it. Two days into my trip, everyone already knew me by name, and it felt almost like family when I came and went. To name a few, thanks so much to Eli and Daynen at the front desk (forgive me if I’ve spelt your names wrong) for making me feel at home ❤️.

Very impressive looking hotel but was disappointed with lack of service. We were checked in by a very professional and friendly gentleman named Eli. I had been contacted earlier via telephone by a young lady from the hotel advising me that the restaurant at the hotel would be open and wanted to know if I wanted to make a reservation. I did make a reservation however, upon checking with my daughters, I called the hotel and informed the young lady that I wished to cancel which, by the tone of her voice, seemed to annoy her. When Eli checked us in, the reservation had not been cancelled. Upon arrival in our room, I noticed it was set up fo two people, not three, that is two wine glasses, two water glasses, etc. I immediately called guest service and spoke to a young lady who informed me that all the rooms are set up for two people regardless of the number of people on reservation (I have stayed at many hotels and this is the first time that I have encountered such). She then informed me that they could, if I wanted, have anything sent up and then asked me to tell her what I wanted. The next morning we went out in morning only to return late in the afternoon to find that our room had not been refreshed, garbage was not removed. I called down and the same young lady answered to tell me that due to COVID they would not be entering our room during our stay but if we needed something they could send it up. I would suggest that due to COVID they should at least have garbage removal service daily as with only having takeout services available at outside restaurants, the room got smelly with weekend worth of leftover meals. Why could glasses, towels, garbage not be picked up/replaced by placing outside door. The three of us all felt disappointed re service and have received better service at 3 and 4 star accommodations than in this 5 star. We even had a problem when we went in the restaurant for drinks. My daughter and I both ordered the same drink and it was served to us without an important ingredient and was told “sorry, ran out of cucumbers”. We were not told beforehand we could of changed to something else.

Hello majogrha, Thank you for sharing this review and your feedback. I'm pleased that you were impressed with the style and look of our hotel, but obviously service is the most important factor for any hotel stay. Clearly we dropped the ball during your stay. Your feedback about picking up and leaving items at the door is exactly what we have been doing and this should be communicated during the reservation process and at check in. Your review started a healthy conversation with our team on how we can do better to ensure we don't miss these important steps. Thanks again and please do not hesitate to reach out to myself if I can offer any assistance in the future. Mark Schaay mschaay@suttonplace.com

We stayed for 2 nights at the Sutton place after getting engaged and from our first interaction with Rae and Caitlin to our last with the Valet, this was easily the highest level of customer service we could have asked for. We wanted for nothing and the staff at all levels were incredibly attentive and professional. Our room (and views) were beyond our expectations, and the location in downtown Halifax is perfect for walking easily around the city. Chop steakhouse is also a wonderful addition, and the staff were just as great. We will be recommending this wonderful hotel to everyone! Thank you to everyone again for making our special time go so smoothly and feel so extra special. We will be back!

The Sutton Place hotel is probably one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The room was very clean and comfortable. It is walking distance to great food and the harbour. What sets this hotel apart is the service levels.
It all started out first night here. We were over 2 hours late, tired and hungry. Check in was flawless, quick and very friendly. When we got to the room we realized my wife left her purse in the taxi. It had our passports, phones, cash etc. I spoke to Daynen and he quickly called the taxi and when the cab driver found the purse, Daynen convinced him to bring it right back. We were upset and waited in the lobby and Daynen watched for every taxi to see if it was the one we took. We did get everything back.
That was amazing enough but the service never stopped. In 4 days there I don’t think we ever opened the main doors once as we were always greeted and someone opened the door. With Covid rooms are not cleaned daily (which was fine with us) but when we needed anything we called down and no word of a lie, it was at the door in less than 5 minutes. No waiting.
If you go to Halifax don’t look anywhere else other than The Sutton Place Hotel. Tell Daynen we said hi

With having to stay locally for our wedding during the May-June COVID-19 lockdown, we chose the the Sutton Place Hotel to make the day a bit more special. We definitely chose wisely, as the staff was extremely accommodating and pleasant to deal with, and the facility itself beautiful and tastefully furnished. We were greeted by thoughtful touches everywhere, and it genuinely felt that the staff were happy we chose their hotel for our occasion. Even when a small technical glitch arose, they handled it with grace and generosity. Even our pup felt pampered, with a decor matching set of bowls ready for her when we arrived.
The package we chose for the Grand Suite was a great value, understanding the pandemic has put some pressure on pricing. Nonetheless, we felt we received exceptional value for the money spent, and would love to stay again casually.
Given the type of occasion, the staff really helped our relatives and friends make the day special. They went out of their way to assist with gifts and food put on for us. This made a small wedding feel much larger.
Chop, the in-house restaurant, gave excellent room service, and definitely the best steak I have eaten (by far) in the Maritimes. We selected dishes across the menu and were happy with all. Also, the restaurant's thoughtful card on the occasion of our wedding was unexpected and very appreciated.
Given the level of service, the decor, and the personal touches, we have no trouble recommending The Sutton Place Hotel when staying in Halifax. For us, it is most definitely the best hotel in all of the HRM.

My husband and I traveled from PEI for a small getaway and The Sutton Place was the perfect hotel choice. We were treated to the Valet parking and we only had to retrieve our vehicle once; everything is within walking distance. Outside the hotel doors sits the Convention Centre, NSLC and Gahan House restaurant (and a large variety or restaurants, bars and pubs nearby). We stayed in an Executive Suite on the 17th floor and the view of the water was amazing from the living room and views of Citadel Hill from the bedroom. We requested a fridge as we stayed 3 nights and it was accommodated no problem . No housekeeping, glassware/ice bucket in room due to Covid, but wasn't an issue at all. We travel quite often and the Front Officer Manager, Rae was the most attentive, accommodating employee I've had the pleasure of meeting. Steve at the front desk, Mike and Gerry at the door and so many others spoiled us to bits and we can't wait to return!

This was our first time staying at Sutton Place, after staying at a hotel a few blocks away in previous summer visits. This hotel is newer, and it's reflected in a really beautiful design of the common spaces and in the rooms. We had a standard King room, but loved the king size bed and our view towards citadel hill, even though we were on a lower floor. Great black-out blinds to prevent sun from waking us up. Bed far enough away from the door that we didn't hear any noises in the hall. We were only there for one night, so didn't get time to try the restaurant. The staff we dealt with at the front desk were friendly and helpful. The hotel has an outdoor terrace that includes a hot tub and lounge chairs, though even in summer, Halifax can be cool and rainy, as it was when we were there, so I don't know how much use the terrace gets in a typical year. Given Halifax's climate, to me it would make more sense to cover the terrace and make it indoors. Then you could enjoy the hot tub even in Halifax's cold winters. No showers or lockers in the gym area. Just a bathroom. So the sign beside the hot tub telling people they were required to shower before entry was a little difficult, with no shower down there to do so. Would have been nicer to have men's and women's washrooms with showers, lockers and saunas, as other hotels I've been to have. And again, better for cold Halifax weather. I would also suggest the management or security patrol the terrace more often. Despite a large sign at the door telling people there is no drinking or smoking on the terrace, in my one day staying here and a walkaround I did just to see the terrace, one couple were drinking beer from cans beside their lounge chairs, and another couple were smoking as they looked at the view. I guess the large printed sign on the door to the terrace saying "No smoking" in large letters just escaped their notice. For anyone visiting Halifax, the hotel is a in a great location, with the harbour just a short few blocks down hill and then good exercise to return. Highly recommend a walk along the harbour boardwalk to get a feel for the city and harbour. So much nicer than when I lived in Dartmouth as a teenager in the 1970s. Lots of good restaurants and pubs nearby. Recommend the seafood chowder at Durty Nelly's pub around the corner, if you can time your visit for lunch or early afternoon. The pub gets deafeningly noisy at night. Thanks, Sutton Place, for a great stay in Halifax,

Went with my wife for a four day getaway, and had an amazing time.
The hotel is centrally located, so you can walk to almost anything (if you don't mind the hills).
At check-in we were greeted by Maria (?) who was very friendly and answered all our questions. Her restaurant recommendations were on the mark, and she waved to us from the front desk every day. Awesome staff overall, and I had a chance to meet Mark the GM to pass along my compliments.
The rooms are very clean (another group of great staff), and have outstanding views. Nice to have a Nespresso machine in the room, and they will provide complimentary glass bottles of water by request. Unlike many hotels, there are ample plugs/USB ports on the bedside tables, and the bed was super comfortable.
Lots of things to do in the immediate vicinity:
Brunch: Elle's Bistro (try the Caesars and Halifax Benny), Stubborn Goat (try the flight of Caesars) & The Black Sheep (known for their Duck ' Breakfast' Poutine)
Dinner: 5 Fishermen & McElvies
Boardwalk: Salty's (great fish & chips on the water), Dave's Lobster Shack (Lobster Rolls), Cow's Ice Cream, and Garrison Brewery (try the flight of beer samples)
Night: Tony's or King of Donair (local version of a gyro with sweet sauce), The Lower Deck (music and drunkeness)
Attractions: The Citadel (especially fir militarybuffs), Pier 21 Immigration Museum (found the boat my family arrived on in 1884), Halifax Harbour Tours (one hour on an electric boat with 8 passengers--nice & mellow), and the Victorian Gardens were practically next door
Can't believe we fit all of that into four days (did the Lobster Shack on a previous visit), but it was amazing.
PS If you like records, check out Taz
