We could not find many B&Bs close to downtown Halifax so this one is great because it is within walking distance of all the attractions. We stayed in the loft room for two days which was a good space, everything worked and it was convenient for us. The owner is a character and her conversation may not be to everyone's...

We stayed in the loft, myself, husband and our two year old. It was perfect. Bed was comfortable, the room was clean and tidy. The location is awesome, only 1.5km walk to harbour! Joan was a perfect host and makes excellent crepes! She has a soon the be famous son...ask her about him!

Our reservation had been made a month in advance and when we got there the owner Joan said that she had bad news. 1) she had overbooked so we did not get the room we booked (Blue room), 2) and that for our second night she would send us to another B&B. My booking was for a large room, which...

1. Our reservation - 3 months before our stay - was senseless. The first night (start of our trip) we got another room than approved, the second night (end of our trip, 3 weeks later) Joan, the owner, sent us to another B&B. The Verandah was overbooked - her promise after the first night, that we will get the reserved...

The owner of this B & B seems to be too worn out to provide proper care of her guests. We were given a room other than the one reserved and when I finally got to speak to the owner, her answer was that we should be glad that we had a room! Service was next to none, room was...

Don’t assume other reviews exaggerate – AVOID this place. If you can’t, get another one lined up for the second half of your stay. If you can’t, be firm and don’t take the owner’s nonsense. Like others, I considered finding somewhere else, but instead just avoided her. On arrival she didn’t introduce herself or provide any information about anything. She...

My wife and I have stayed a many B & Bs from coast to coast in Canada and found The Verandah charming, well located and well worth the money. We stayed in the Loft for two nights and were very appreciative of the little fridge, skylights and windows. We also enjoyed Joan's company. She can tell a great story and...

The rudest person we have ever met. There was no introduction just a nasty condescending words on our arrival. The only words we were able to speak were - We are the ......... and we have come to check in. Then it began and ended with her saying, "I'm glad you aren't staying here, I don't like you anyway." We...

The hostess has few boundaries and loves to talk about herself and the trials of her life. From the reviews one can see that some people find this warm and endearing, and others find it intrusive. I'd have to say that we found it the latter. We stayed 5 days, and seriously considered trying to find alternate accommodations. Instead we...

We spent 2 nights at the Verandah. The breakfast was very good. Our host Joan was a very fun person to hang out with. She seemed just like family and we had only just met her. It was a perfect location also. walking distance to the down town area. S & L Krebs, Marquette Michigan
