This hotel is crammed into residential neighborhood. Parking is abundant but tight, with several different parking areas available on different sides or levels of the building. There is one tiny area in which a traveler can load or unload a vehicle; otherwise, you just have to be creative. The building is older and it feels dark. Our room had an incredible view of Chocolate Lake but we were also above the restaurant/ terrace which was crowded due to a wedding taking place that evening. So it was noisy and we were not able to enjoy the lakeside so much. There is no access to the lake for swimming even though there were many people from residences or local parks in the water. Our particular room was fairly clean and comfortable, except for the bathroom. The floor grout appeared dirty and the bathroom was tiny. There was a very small counter (green and black speckled--very unattractive) and hardly room to turn around, much less put a travel bag or hang towels. In addition, one edge of the countertop was supported with wood blocks and toilet paper crammed into crevices underneath it. The view was almost worth it all.

Excellent service. There was a Afternoon birthday teen birthday party close to our room. Asked for a move & complied right away, placing us on 9th floor, very quiet. Excellent view of the Lake, with sunrise directly into our room.

Overall this is a 2 star, cheap hotel charging 4 star rates.
The floors in pet friendly rooms are Carpeted which is unsanitary. The bathroom is very small and for a single Queen room, I paid slightly under $200/night. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, I attempted to stay another night and was told by front desk staff that there was no availabilty as there was a 'very large group' coming that day; however, when I looked on the expedia app there were still rooms available. I was not offered an option to change rooms, the front desk staff member said No, there were no rooms. I managed my plans and stayed elsewhere.
This is a very Busy hotel with little attention to detail or guest happiness. As a party of 8, we had dinner in the restaurant (which has a very limited menu) and after one person found a house fly in her Salad, we were all treated to a very large MOUSE running through the dining room. Indeed the entire property was peppered with mouse traps.
The included breakfast was low grade buffet food at best and all beverages were served in paper cups. Upon requesting a coffee cup, I was forced by a server to Promise that I would return it and that I certainly would not take the cup out of the dining room. In my opinion, this was Quite ridiculous and not a little insulting.
When our party returned to the hotel after dinner out, we wanted to have a glass of wine in the lobby in comfortable chairs to chat. We were able to have 1 glass of wine before 9pm when the bartender advised us that it was now last call and he was closing the bar. This is poor business management, poor guest attentiveness and just plain poor. Had the bar been open and the bartender not walked around the lobby area *turning off the lights*, we may have been inclined to stay and enjoy another glass while chatting; however we got the message to leave. Which we did.
Would I stay at this hotel again? Absolutely Not. Would I recommend it? No.

Young boys playing hockey in the hall outside my room screaming and yelling Has nice selection of breakfast items. Room was clean. Very small parking lot in front, but does have parking on the side. Would suggest they move the smoking away from an exit door, so patrons don't walk thru cigarette smoke.

Stay was booked online for 1 night for medical appointments and business . Spoke to an associate from the hotel the day before arrival to make sure everything was good for check in and was told yes . Arrived to the location after a 5 hour trip and the disappointment started. First we were told we couldn't check in as the person who booked the room for us on their card was not there . We were 5 hours away from them as they were still at home running the business. Then the internet went down so we couldn't finish trying to check in. We got the cardholder on the phone and finally after trying to sort things out in that regard we got the process started. Next the reservation was for 2 guests but they only had it as 1 . Then we were put at the very top floor and i think the cleaning stopped before that floor. The room was not the cleanest . The air/heat unit was filthy , the cupboard where the fridge was filthy , dingy carpet that wreaked havoc on the sinuses and allergies, ceiling falling apart above window and by room door , something spilled on the side on the bedside table , comforter on bed not laundered, two of the towels in the bathroom had hair all over them . I heard on concerving water but thats a bit ridiculous. Cable tv reception was also very poor . I will say the breakfast was very good with a good amount to pick from and being right next to a very busy roadway leading to the roundabout the room was quite quiet. Parking is another issue we were lucking enough to get a handicap parking spot at check in time but after going to the store to get a few things and coming back the main parking lot by the front door was full. The closest spot was down below on the side lot where we would have to park and walk through a very dark area at night. Not safe at all as there have been problems in the past in this area. Would i recommend this location to someone in the future , not likely. Being a Gold Member Guest for Best Western i guess holds no value but that aside i think anybody who is willing to give a place their business should be treated much better.

We looked for a less expensive deal than hotels in the city and were pleasantly surprised by this choice. We were greeted by Culan who made us feel welcome. Our room was large and clean with a view of the lake and the sheets and pillows were cotton and very comfortable. The restaurant downstairs served excellent meals and had excellent service… pasta was delicious and their pan fried halibut was perfectly cooked with fresh lightly cooked vegetables. It was easy to drive in and out of the city (10-15 minutes) and an added bonus was we escaped all the traffic issues going to the airport on the morning we left. 30 minutes and no hold ups in morning rush hour. (everyone was going the opposite direction.)

This property is our hotel of choice in Halifax and we stay there several times a year. While conveniently located to downtown, its location on Chocolate Lake with picnic tables and an outdoor patio for dining gives it a resort feeling. Staff have always been exceptionally helpful, including two weeks ago when my wife was convalescing from surgery and they were only too eager to provide additional items for our suite.

We had a mouse problem throughout the night. It was chewing stuff too. Not significant damage though…just a little bit. The mouse was living between our bed and the wall. It was in my pillow while I was laying down too. When the front desk was called about the problem, the fella huffed at me and didn’t know what to do about my situation. He sent a security guard up lol luckily the guard was extremely nice and funny about the situation. I rate him 5 stars haha the mouse never got removed, but we put everything up on the shelves and removed our food from our bags. Also took care of our garbage and sat it out in the hall. The front desk fella called afterwards and gave us 40% off our last night. That made things a bit better though. We all ended up getting sick after our stay. I don’t know if that has anything to do with the mouse, but it is a suspicion for sure. Just be aware and SANITIZE. Don’t keep food or drinks out.

Room was fine and bed was comfortable. Breakfast was included and extremely good. Wouldn’t recommend as I didn’t have hot water for showers either in morning or at night. Many other guests didn’t either that I was with and the staff used the weather and amount of guests in hotel as an excuse. When I checked out I told the staff and she asked if I had told them but I didn’t because the rest of the people I was with said nothing was done. Housekeeper woke me the first morning playing loud music in the hall and vacuuming at 8am. Second morning she knocked on my door at 810 am. The hotel is fine otherwise but there was no discount given for no hot water which is a big part of the stay. I wanted to have a bath after shopping all day but didn’t want to have a cold bath.

I sincerely apologize that we were unable to address the lack of hot water in your guest room during your stay with us. We were made aware of some concerns regarding the lack of hot water in a few guest rooms and our maintenance team began to investigate. We are delighted that we quickly returned hot water service to those guests we spoke with and I apologize that we were not aware of the problem affecting your guest room as well. We have identified the issue causing the lack of hot water and it was corrected by a third-party contractor to ensure it does not happen again. We know that many guests and the cold weather can cause a strain on our water heating systems, but we are pleased that we quickly identified another cause for concern and had it rectified to best serve our guests. I apologize that we did not inform you of this resolution. I sincerely hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to Chocolate Lake again in the future, for a stay which exceeds expectations, with exceptional service and hot, hot water.

Yes it still has a games room. I'm not sure if it was open or not due to the COVID restrictions. You would have to call the hotel to find out more. I hope this helps.
