Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls, Ontario, remains a hit for family fun, with its variety of highly praised amenities, particularly the water park. While the atmosphere is deemed enjoyable with a fun vibe and comfortable bedding, guests feel that the rooms, suffering from low water pressure, cleanliness issues, and dated decor, fall short of expectations considering the cost. Mixed reviews highlight the service, ranging from exceptional to disappointingly unprofessional. Despite the maintenance of common areas, many reviewers question the overall value, pointing to the steep prices for both stay and extra services.

I was quite surprised to constantly see 5 star ratings for GWL but after making this a formal 4 night/5 day holiday with my wife and 2 yr old daughter, I completely understand -  What an amazing adventure GWL was! This is a very mild version of Disney and the right balance re: activities, price and location.

Here are my notes to keep this review succinct:
1) Make your reservations 90 days in advance as you will get the best deals.
2) In summer, book your rooms overlooking the outside waterpark, it will give you that destination holiday feel.
3) Buy the Paw Pass: The kids will love the activities; bowling, cub club activities, arcade, magiquest adventure, build your own teddy bear...etc. When they are busy, it gives us parents a chance to unwind just a little bit.
4) The rooms at first will seem expensive, but if you treat this like a proper destination vacation, it will be far more comparable and reasonable.
5) They have daily activities to keep your kids busy, not to mention an awesome indoor waterpark, even in the worst of Canadian winters (Dec-March).
6) The lines on the slides at the waterpark aren't bad comparatively, and there is lots to do in the waterpark for all age groups.
7) The staff all around are great. That is some solid training they've got. It seems like a world on its own. They do thier best to make sure you are happy and having an enjoyable holiday.
8) GWL tends to have special events during occasions and holidays; Father's Day, Mother's Day, Halloween, Christmas etc. I went during Father's Day, and I felt so special with my daughter celebrating me and that special day. So memorable with the dance party and balloon drop! The weekends and holidays tend to be busier and more expensive, but makes for more excitement at the resort as a whole!
9) The breakfast is an $18pp buffet and accommodates vegan and veg options. Ps: Their waffles are eggless! (For those with egg allergies) I was quite impressed. Although, if budgeting more consciously, you can bring basic food items for the rooms and there is a Starbucks, Williams and Timmies not so far a drive away.
10. They also have a nice Cafe which merits a shout out. It has great breakfast items and goodies open all day from morning to night. This was a particular favorite for my wife - for their almond milk lattes to their chocolate strawberries and cheese/plain and chocolate croissants - all made in house fresh everyday!
11) The Cub club has a few activities both free and paid to keep the kids busy, and also kids get a souvenir out of activities. It is priced quite reasonably and worth it.
12) The arcade is good and full of lights and noise, but quite a few machines and mini-rides weren't working. Bowling is fun as well.
13) The lunch options at Buckets and the Watering Hole are actually quite good - even for vegetarians! The pricing for the food can naturally be as expected. But it is decent quality. And the Pina Colada at the Watering Hole is the best I've ever had! What a pleasant treat on a hot day!
14) Northwoods Pizza is good, but order whole pizzas, the individual slices have been sitting there for a while...
15) The Bear Claw is great, but they need 2-3 more options for vegan/eggless cupcakes and desserts.
16) The evening activities are awesome, my daughter absolutely loved the dance parties. Every evening they have something different (Bingo, Games, Magic Shows) and it really helps keep the kids occupied and burn off thier energy. The Characters also come out 4 times a day which is awesome. Got some great pics out of that!
17) On average 2 nights and 3 days would normally do the trick to fully engross yourself in the GWL experience.
18) The dinner options for vegetarians are quite limited to include the typical salads, pizza, boiled vegetables...etc. I emailed in advance and was informed that special accommodations would be made for my dietary restrictions but even after speaking to the chef, they prepared me a very bland pasta....the dinner component was honestly quite disappointing. As an FYI, the menu is a 3 day rotation. The advisable thing would be to go out to one of the many restaurants at Niagara for Dinner or just do ubereats.

Overall we loved our vacation, and it was a total joy to see our daughter have so much fun! We cannot wait to go back during Christmas!

checked in on new years day for a few days of fun with the kids. hotel was supposedly at capacity, but the room was clean as promised. The hot tub in the jacuzzi suite (whatever they call it) is basically a tub that's big enough for one person, two if you squeeze in. They don't provide any bubbles or liquid body wash for bubbles so bring your own or get a bath bomb from scoops spa. The room is dated, we could hear people running up and down the hallsways late at night, we found cigarette butts in the grassy area of our patio. Anytime we tried opening the patio door we could smell cigarettes or other smells due to facing the back of the water park. The heater/air system only blows warm air which made the nights miserable on the old and soft bed. The toilet in the bathroom leaked water in the grout of the tile. The food at the buffet is hit or miss and severely overcooked. But this place is totally different if you go for lunch and order a-la carte. Wow., and the majority of the staff that works here look like they really hate their life (sorry, just being honest). We had one bartender who was a real spark(jim or jeff?) said he had been there over 8 years, other than that they really all fizzled.
Tons of stuff going on for kids all the time. Nice indoor waterpark, but super packed. One of the main things I read about this place was the kids are running around everywhere without adult supervision and it's kind of like a big, moderately undercontrol zoo of escaped kids. The have a room service menu which doesn't seem too badly priced, if you wanna hide from the chaos. Northwoods pizza will even personalize and take out, which i recommend. Really impressed with the quality of their pizza.

Planned a 2 day trip for the kids due to the rave reviews from family and friends. Brought our own snacks, ordered pizza from Franks down the street to keep costs down as suggested by those who have been before. The breakfast buffet was standard fare, but pricey. It was nice to be on site and be able to go back to the room throughout the day (Unlike Disney and other places where you are essentially stuck in the park all day). The Wand game is crazy expensive, and I'm not sure it even works, the book is extremely wordy- the kids didn't want to read it, and honestly neither did I. By day 2 the kids were begging to go home. They loved the wave pool and the hot tub, story time was more for kids under 6. The CubCamp was expensive for tacky projects that I didn't want in my house (pillow cases, trucker hats). I'm not sure if I would go again- maybe only a one day trip if at all.

Room assignment was wrong though reserved months in advance. Food left in fridges and freezers from prior guests as well as wrappers in couch, indicating that rooms are NOT thoroughly cleaned between guests. Beds were NOT comfortable, neither were pillows. The soap and hand towel dispensers either didn't work or were empty in all three public washrooms we used. Guest trash left on all common areas, including on the floor rather than in the trash cans. Never saw anyone picking it up or emptying garbage. Huge problem with NOISE levels after hours during "hibernation time". Phones in room didn't work. Have to text them to get replies from desk. However, this function is turned off at night. Found all the pool water quite cold/cool. For the price we paid, the food quality was substandard fare at 5 star prices. The rooms were not clean. The noise and drunken revellers after hours are not controlled or policed. Extremely disappointed. Likley to never return.

The place was too crowded. We had to wait in line for dinner for 30 minutes and then another 30 minutes for our table, the kids were hungry and tired and it ruined the whole day for us.
The shower wasn't working, the room was too dark, not enough light.
We asked for matches to light our birthday cake and they answered that the staff of the hotel can't help us with that so had to buy one from the hotel store.
I just think it's a shame they charge so much money and then charge more for extras like photographs that are meant to advertise the hotel.
Upon arrival during check in the lineup was huge and they only had 2 staff checking in people, You pay this much money for a room you would think you would check in much faster and the service would be utmost but it's like a 2 star hotel.
We left with a bad taste and most of my friends felt the same

We have gone to GWL every year for the last 5 years and while we enjoy the hotel there are some things they need to address: rooms need update (no USB power ports, no smart TVs with own access to Netflix or Amazon Prime), bathroom is too small and claustrophobic with under powered fan, and rooms and pillows smell musty (presumably guests using pool and bringing extra dampness to the room). The MagicQuest game is ridiculously over-priced for reactivation (I could understand $5 to add a new battery but $15+tax to reactivate a wand when the game hasn't been updated in 5+ years?). The staff in the restaurant should be incentivized somehow for service (as they don't get tips from people on meal programs, we found them surly and not engaged, for example waiting more than 10 minutes for cutlery and having to ask 3x for drinks). Perhaps a bonus tied to a customer rating completed at the end of the meal? The water park is fun and well maintained but my kids pointed out multiple bandaids floating in the hot tub and the available food options in the pool area are limited. Overall we will return, just hoping to drive improvement by pointing out these issues.

We were gifted a booked 2 night stay at the end of Feburary 2020 for christmas. We took our 2 girls, aged 1½ and 3½. The room (wolf den) had them in awe from the start. We moved the end table out and put the playpen in there for the 1yr old, and the 3yr old took the bottom bunk. They loved thier little space. The room size was awesome for us. Both girls got an orange braceltte in the pool area and could go on the same slides. We were handed down a wand that our siblings had used years ago when they went, paid a small and reasonable fee to replace the battery and have capability to open chests but not play the game (as they are still too young IMO) but loved to use the wand. Dance party and story time each night was amazing! The first night Jillian read Jillian Jigs book, and i forgot how much i lived thar story when I was a kid! My daughter has been reciting it ever since we heard it. They also had a science show and she was super into that as well.
Every interaction we had with any staff member was always extremely pleasant, and never seemed forced. The employees genuinely seemed like they love working there and are having as much fun as the guests! It was refreshing to see so many happy and helpful staff members. Neither my husband or I had ever been to GWL before, but we are hooked after 1 visit! This will deffinately be a yearly trip and stay for us!

Requested a room closer to the park, wasn’t notified until check in that my type of room is always the furthest from the water park. The manager on duty lacked professional customer service skills. $1400 weekend was somewhat disappointing from the start, feels like it wasn’t worth it. Our relatives requested a room near us (same type of room) and they were assigned a room on the totally opposite end of the building.

I’m a very valued wolf pack member (with a gold almost platinum status) we started coming to your lodge for many years now and noticed several changes, thanks to Covid19, some good and some bad.

Let’s start with the bad first, prices are insanely high compared to pre-covid levels for both the stay and activities and all the extra “up charges” for the paw pass such as $2 for colour wands (that used to be free), $5 extra fee for a stuff animal (when it was free with paw pass—yes i understand the lodge animals are paw pass worthy only, but this makes zero sense). Let’s not even talk about the prices of merchandise in the store are sky high and the same merch at a different place (the exact same product just different company logo) is much cheaper.

Secondly, the staff aren’t properly trained in dealing with guest satisfaction. An example of this is the rude behaviour exhibited by most staff members at the buffet restaurant. The cook and worker were having a conversation and as I asked for some Pea-meal bacon the cook kind seemed perturbed at the fact that I interrupted the conversation. I also noticed that most staff have changed since the closure and understand how hard it must have been for some to return, but every single staff member has changed or hasn’t returned which leads me to think the management here doesn’t care about employee satisfaction or retention.

Now let’s talk about the positive changes I have noticed.

The cleaning and sanitization is great to see and feels good to see to be honest, personally feel a little safer from that as well.

Lastly, this trip was a complete down spiral for my family and I until we met Katrina from Cub Club. She has turned our mini vacation totally around by making us feel very welcomed and as her own family. This is not the first time that I have emailed about her great customer service work to make guests feel welcomed. Last time was about 4 years ago when she was just a worker and not in a supervisor role. We always look forward to coming to the lodge in order to see her and feel a sense of home away from home from her hospitality. If I ran a hotel resort, I defiantly would try to take her away as an employee because I think she possesses the best qualities of a great employee/supervisor/manager role that any employer should embrace and welcome with open arms, especially the higher the role. My family and I have noticed a BIG difference in how cub club runs compared to couple years ago before she took over as a supervisor.

I am deleting my last google review from 4 years ago as it doesn’t reflect how I feel about the lodge currently and writing the same information, however, I will be giving a 5 star review ONLY because of Katrina and her treatment towards guests and how she treats her team at cub club that make a big difference —feels very welcoming and like home—compared to other parts of the lodge

• we stay here 2x/year every year (covid obviously excluded).
• 3 day stay. $2000 spent. Family of 4.
• room was dirty. We upgraded and spent more for a 2 floor loft; there were cobwebs EVERYWHERE, only enough coffee for 1 day, 2 of the 3 remotes were non functional
• rented a cabana for 2 days. Saw our server only TWICE per day despite being in the park for over 5 hours each day. At one point, our flag was raised for 45min before I gave up and was going to purchase my own food when she finally arrived. At the price of almost $300 per day, this is unacceptable
• being told I need to turn down my own room, remove my own garbage, and make/replace my bed sheets is ludicrous. After spending $2000, you do not employ me to work at your hotel
• 45min wait for room service. Wings, a sandwich, cheesticks. They arrived completely cold.
• the fridge in the cabana was NOT stocked as advertised on your website. Again, a waste of almost $300 per day
• I won't be back. My $2k is better spent elsewhere
