It is my understanding that HST is Harmonized Sales Tax which is combination of both Canadian Federal and Provincial taxes. The Tourism Levy is a fee imposed on items such as accommodations. I have been advised that the Tourism Levy is optional; however, I have also been advised otherwise; consequently, this fee is imposed and I have not been able to have it removed from my hotel bills when I had asked.
