The Charles Hotel has earned admiration for its historical charm and elegant atmosphere, though it's not without the occasional sign of wear. While most guests commend the professional service, some have encountered reservation issues. The value is a point of contention; despite attractive package rates, there are instances of guests feeling overcharged. Rooms are a blend of cozy historic appeal and some disappointment with wear and space. Amenities, however, receive consistent praise, particularly for the dining options and location near main street, which, along with the immaculate cleanliness and festive decorations, contribute to the hotel's allure.

Cozy historic hotel next to an historic 9 hole golf course. Walking distance to the cute town with many wonderful restaurants and shops. Our room, on the 2nd floor, had a shared balcony overlooking the park-looking back yard. Bed was very comfortable and the shower had great water pressure. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and accommodating to our requests. Minor inconvenience of no daily housekeeping nut plenty of access to fresh towels and linens as needed. Had dinner and breakfast and the feed fresh and delicious. Highly recommend. Shout out to Theresa and Matthew for going the extra mile!

Spent 2 wonderful nights at the Charles. Such a beautiful place, room was cozy and all amenities you need are on site. We purchased the package that includes breakfast both mornings and a shuttled visit to Gretzky estate for whiskey and wine tasting. Hotel is within walking distance to downtown. We enjoyed “ date night “ in the lounge of the hotel, very good value for the cost. Staff are all friendly and helpful. We will be back !

My hubby and I spent a very enjoyable night recently. My mother was born and raised in a home on Victoria Str in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The BMO Bank was the grocery store she worked in. My uncle lived in the upper floor of the bank and had his first children there.
The area around The Charles is very intriguing to me. I LOVE the history. This was our second visit to the hotel. It is an older building so expect creaks and uneven floors. But I LOVE it. The breakfast is amazing and the staff all very welcoming.
It is on the pricey side but we found a Travelzoo voucher which made it affordable on our limited budget.
We would love to return again soon. I’ll be watching for deals!!
I’ve included a picture of my mother’s home. I knocked on the door and had a nice chat with the owner who purchased it from the family my grandfather sold to. ❤️♥️

We had room 12 which is one of a couple of 'Tiny' rooms because we booked last minute and that is all they had. In fact, they didn't even appear on their website.
1) The hall ways leading to our room (previous servants quarter part of the hotel) smelled musty but we could overlook that.
2) The room itself is indeed very small but we had minimal luggage so it was ok. The bathroom was roomy enough.
3) The bed was awful!! For a high priced hotel like the Charles, one would expect a top of the line mattress regardless of the type of room. It was bouncy and uncomfortable so we had a bad sleep both nights we were there.
4) There was no "Please make up this room' sign so we just left to go exploring assuming they would come and change the towels etc. But they didn't and if they have a different system of cleaning up the room they didn't tell us that when we checked in. We could have asked at the desk as we left for the day but it just didn't occur to us to have to do this.
5) There are California shutters on the window but the room was not very dark in the morning even with them closed if you are looking for that kind of thing for sleeping in. Plus there was a gap in the frame of the door that let in a stream of light as well
6) There was some wicker furniture on the porch with lovely views but it was very uncomfortable to sit on for more than a few minutes. Cushions would probably have helped but none were available. What could have been a nice hour of book reading on the porch was not to be.
7) We got the dinner/breakfast deal and the food in the restaurant was excellent and the breakfast was good as well.

Hopefully the other rooms on their website were lovely.

Thank you for joining us and I am so sorry to hear that you found your room to be on the small side. Room 12 (The Sunflower Room) is featured on our website and is titled as "Petit Queen" which I feel is an accurate representative of the room, and the rate is reflective of that as it is our introductory rate. One of the wonderful things about our collection of hotels is that we have such a diverse offering, so there is definitely something for everyone. Please feel free to contact myself directly if you would like to try another one of our properties and I will personally help to find you one that suits your taste. I look forward to welcoming you back. Sincerely, Jennifer Dickson Guest Services Manager

There was Zero customer service by reception desk on the 20th of November, 2021 (Sid took over the shift after her (unfortunately didn’t write down the name) Sid was pleasant to deal with and he tried to help me in moving rooms- he heard the worker the way she was talking to me. ) I have a problem of not being able to sleep if the windows are not opened and I asked to be moved to another room and she said nothing was available and if you don’t like it you can go to Holiday Inn . I asked for the manager and was told by her that manager is on vacation and during vacation , she cannot be disturbed. I asked to speak to someone higher and was told by this woman< Sorry nothing I can do for you and move out if you don't like what I am saying. I asked her if she could possibly ask one of he guest who hasn't moved in yet to switch with me and I'll pay the difference in price. She said NO. She said for safely reasons all windows are locked,- I went to other hotels (which had no availability on Queen street – and every single room has their windows open) - so I am not sure what is the real reason for this but during covid, shouldn't the windows be open to freshen up the room especially moving in after someone just stayed there? . . She completely ruined our experience at your hotel.

Thank you

This was our first time staying at this property and we enjoyed our stay very much. Ivy greeted us upon arrival, explained everything and offered to help with anything we needed. I received a few texts throughout my stay asking if we needed anything, I thought this was a nice added touch. My husband did ask for coffee and Ivy brought it up very quickly. Anna served our welcome cocktails with a sample of their delicious mac and cheese (great chef) and was very knowledgeable of the area and the wineries. She also gave us a free pass to another winery that we mentioned that we wanted to visit. Our shuttle driver was very polite and on time and the breakfast in the morning was amazing with great service again. The only thing we were dissatisfied with was the towels and robes were very rough. Overall the stay was great and the property is very cute and exactly what we were looking for.

Beautiful property. We booked this hotel because it was highly rated and great location. We arrived just before 7pm and were shown to room 113 which was not in the main section of the hotel. Not at all what they promote on their site. In fact they don't even show this room level on their site. It was about 8' x 10' without even a closet. So small that they put a coat hanger in the bathroom because there was no room for it in the bedroom. Forget about opening the window as it was blocked by the headboard. No paintings, no vibrant colours and no fancy linen and bed as they advertise. This was anything but a Superior or Deluxe room with a view and 4 poster bed. $350 to sleep in a closet! To make matters worse, for dinner they led us to a corridor where there were no other guests, instead of seating us in the dinning room with the other human beings. The food and service were very good but there was no ambience, no decor and no other guests in the corridor. More than feeling ripped off, we were insulted. We have travelled around the world several times and have never stayed in such a shabby overpriced hotel. If you go, be sure to see the room before accepting or you may be in for a shock. I wish we had taken a picture to share. The Charles is a joke!

Thank you "edthehab" for joining us and I am very sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the room that you had reserved online. The Charles Hotel is a beautiful historic home that had been converted into a hotel years ago. One of the things I love most about the property is the uniqueness, every room is different in style, features & decor. Because of that uniqueness, with our website we have pictures of each guest room so our guests can explore and if there is a specific room that they would like to request, we are very happy to do our best to honour it. With the room type that you reserved, it is one our "Petit Queen" room which is modest in size, which the rate is reflective of that. We would love an opportunity to have you join us again and I invite you to contact myself directly to discus a return visit. I can be reached at jdickson@niagarasfinest.com. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Jennifer Dickson Guest Services Manager

Positive energy, very relaxing, accommodation was great from the room size to confort, high quality of linens, cozy robes, toiletries, the rain shower made you want to linger in it hard to keep it short it was so delicious and made better by a nice hot cup of freshly brewd coffee right after it. As early as 6am you can help yourself to great fresh coffee available at the lounge, making it easy to enjoy a cup of this brew while relaxing in your room in the cozy robe before breakfast at their restaurant which by the way was very good so was dinner. I totally recommend this property for a great stay. You can relax and if you wish to walk over to the downtown it's only a short walk to get to stores theaters etc. It was nice to be close and yet away from the crowd. Great staff and positive energy. If you like golfing it's right next door. And a shortbwalk to the lake, great soroundings.

Our stay at this hotel started on shaky ground....we were initially put into a room that was the size of a large closet. It was unbelievably disappointing given that it was our anniversary and because the room was fairly expensive. The staff were amazing and offered to upgrade us for our second night into an amazing room. They also provided us with complimentary breakfast for both mornings. Overall, we loved our stay and will go back for sure. If you book, please make sure to call ahead to avoid being placed in one of the two bedrooms upstairs that are incredibly small...they used to be the servants quarters of this beautiful mansion and would be ok if they were considerably cheaper, however, they cost almost the same as the larger rooms. Regardless, we plan to return next year as the overall experience was absolutely amazing once the room situation was rectified.

We had a 2 night stay at The Charles Hotel. We were on the upper floor and enjoyed having our morning coffee out on the front upper porch. Great location you can walk to stores, restaurant and even visit an Irish pub and enjoy some live music. The room was comfortable and although there was a wedding on the back balcony we didn't hear a thing. We rented eSkoot scooters for a day which is a few blocks from the hotel. A must for this area not to busy, we spent 6 hours riding the waterfront trails up and down to all wineries, then the side streets just beautiful properties. Great experience we will definitely stay again.

I don’t think this property is dog friendly. I have never seen it advertised and after many stays there I have not seen guests with dogs. But, not 100% sure. I would email the property and ask. It’s a fantastic property to stay at.

Probably not. With a young infant I would look at a Hotel in the area. The Charles is an Inn. Excellent property but likely awkward for young children to stay in.
