The hotel is in a great location, the prices were quite reasonable, hotel staff is courteous and check in was easy and convenient.
Room was a bit small for our family, not a lot of space to move around the furniture etc. seems they put another bed in a regular room. The amenities in the room was good, got a fridge and microwave etc. no tub in the bathroom so if you have small kids, bath time may be a bit difficult.
The room had quite a bit of trash (old socks, plastic bottle caps, plastic wrappers) under the bed skirts and in corners. Which makes me feel the best care was not taken while cleaning our room before we arrived. This was upsetting given we’re in Covid pandemic. This is extremely important now more than any other time.
This hotel would have gotten a recommend for me given the house cleaning was more of a priority than the aesthetics.

clean, large room, friendly staff. breakfast is served in an attached restaurant - both days we were there, the restaurant was closed - minimal notice. in the winter cold, closest alternative is a frigid walk - others are a drive. not sure i would stay here again in the winter

Hotel is nice. Gym is small as mentioned as well as pool but nice to have the option. Room was clean, and well equipped. Bathroom was modern, beds comfortable and clean. Was a perfect for a short business trip. The staff was also great and went out of their way to assist with airport transport , holding onto luggage since room was not available for early check-in, as well as answering any questions. Shout out to Samir and Centique for making my experience much more enjoyable.

Stayed one night November 10th, desk agents were efficient and helpful to my needs. Room was exactly as I requested along with being super clean and smelling fresh. Bed and pillows are so soft and comfortable!

We had a group dinner there for 12. As the Chop didn’t have a private function room, we had a meeting space with Chop serving us at the Sandman.
I have done hundreds of group dinners and events across Canada and I have never come across event staff quite like the lady there.
Due to regulatory reasons, we had to leave the room for a bit during the business presentation. The dinner was slow to come (no problem) so we pointed out that we were no longer at the table when the waiter went by getting ready to serve our meal. He said no problem, he would bring it to us where we were.
Moments later, the lady assisting with another function came to us with an attitude I have never seen before telling me that they would not “serve you on a rolly table in the corridor “ We had never asked for that. Then we then asked if we could grab a table at the restaurant to eat our food while warm and her answer was no “we cannot do that unless we wanted to pay for a whole new meal” In other words, the meal from the event space and a meal from the restaurant if we were to sit there. We declined that offer and I told her we could just eat off of our laps. That was what my original thought was anyway.
She then scolded us for not preparing in advance for this. Quite frankly it has not been an issue in any other city. By the time we got to that point in the presentation we were always done eating the main or in one city, they just put it under the heat lamps for us.
The lovely waiter for our event space was kind to set us up with the glass tables and ensure we were served our food where we were.The other lady had a problem with that and said that she would move us to the restaurant. We declined as we were already halfway through our meal. She again gave attitude saying “so now, you no longer want a table”.
The gentleman waiting on us was so kind however, this event manager just ruined the whole experience. After the first interaction two of my colleagues asked why she was being such a b$@&*. She just approached us with attitude from the get go.
The long and the short of it is that coming into Chop the staff was great. Event server we delt with was awesome. The lady with the awful attitude ruined the experince for us, the bill payers and I am grateful that our customers did not have to see that display she put on.

Sandman Signature in Ottawa has been up and running for a little while, but this property is fresh and immediately comfortable. Has a simple elegance.
VERY clean and well designed. This property is in a perfect location near south central Ottawa right on the Hunt Club artery. Short drive to the airport or major shopping.
Great rate value here with high quality accommodation. Around 100 at time of writing, but I suspect that number rises a few dollars as the hotel fills into summer.
Great base if you want to avoid city core with good road connections in and out, E-W or N-S, best of both worlds here.
I liked this place. No more or less than you might expect from an upscale value offering like Sandman. Everything you need, nothing you don’t. A family business, they build and operate their own properties. You can tell that they care and it carries through to the local staff.
CHOP Steak House on location! Lots of assorted food choices nearby. Gym, Pool, Business Centre. Free parking and free Wifi. Not a lot of fine print here, I liked that.
Now... brace yourself... I think they picked their own wall art. Clearly a theme, here and certainly a message? You’ll see what I mean.

We stayed here July 29,2021 checked in didn’t have any idea that the pool or fitness center was closed, as it didn’t state it on the web site. We didn’t find out till check in. Also didn’t find out till check in that there was no cleaning staff if you stayed more than minimal stay (we stayed for three days) We didn’t received a discount or anything, or proper notice. Kids were very disappointed that there wasn’t a pool or anything to do Pool is why we chose this hotel. Definitely our last visit to the Sandman

Our fitness center was open during your stay, but due to Covid, we ask every guest to sign up at the front desk and we provide your with a special key to avoid a crowded fitness room and keep everyone safe. We booked a family vacation here as we had Expedia points that were running out. When I booked the room on Expedia, I didn’t realize I had booked a handicap accessible room. Once I did, on the same day as I booked the room, I called the hotel to change it to a regular room. they passed the buck and told me to call Expedia.
I called Expedia and they advised me to talk to the hotel when we arrived and that it shouldn’t be a problem.
On arrival we got the runaround. The manager advised me that he was full for the weekend but would do his best to move us the next day. Of course the next day nothing happened. When I asked if we could be moved again, I got the runaround.
The room was OK but nothing special. The air conditioning system was blowing directly on us as we tried to sleep so we put a pillow over 1/2 of it. That seem to help.
On the second night, the air conditioning totally failed. When I went down in the morning, again I spoke to the manager, who advised me he would look into it. When I returned later that afternoon, no one knew what was going on. I checked the air conditioning and it appears to work , but who knows it could fail again.
Basically their customer service stinks. Their attitude was arrogant and they weren’t looking to be accommodating in any way shape or form. There are lots of choices of places to stay in OTTAWA we come and visit at least three or four times a year as my family lives here. It will be the last place I ever stay in OTTAWA .

We were in Ottawa for a wedding. The Hotel Manager was very accommodating in meeting our pre-arrival needs. Also, made the checkin process smooth by pre-blocking rooms and making keys in advance. Rooms were clean, staff was very friendly. Keep up the good work.

The reason I am giving this hotel a bad review is they don't accept cash or debit. They only accept major credit cards. I have traveled many times and have always paid by debit. In light of the current COVID-19, I can appreciate them not wanting to accept cash, however there is no reason why this hotel shouldn't accept debit. Any hotel I've stayed in, (Marriott, Best Western, Les Suites, etc) have accepted debit with a room deposit, usually $100-200, which is refunded at check out time once the room has been inspected. It's a shame this hotel isn't following with others. Not everyone carries a credit card on them, and I haven't had one for years. It's my preferred way of spending. They just lost my business and I won't return in the future.
