I travel to Ottawa frequently for work and for the last few months have been staying at the Sandman. It is in my opinion the BEST airport area hotel in Ottawa.. by far! It’s clean, near new, the rooms are spacious and it has Chop restaurant attached which is great! My latest stay I was checked in by Mridul, he was quick and went above and beyond at 2am with my 5 year old son. Thank you very much. I will definitely be back soon!
The Sandman hotel is awsome. Friendly staff. Very clean. Check in no problem. Would Defitnely come back. Close walking distance to great food. The perfect size of hotel. Rooms are very well maitained. Pool and hottub every hotel needs them.
Hotel is nice. Gym is small as mentioned as well as pool but nice to have the option. Room was clean, and well equipped. Bathroom was modern, beds comfortable and clean. Was a perfect for a short business trip. The staff was also great and went out of their way to assist with airport transport , holding onto luggage since room was not available for early check-in, as well as answering any questions. Shout out to Samir and Centique for making my experience much more enjoyable.
Friendly staff. Clean large room, I really like the balcony and kitchens with the separate rooms. The reason for the poor review is the gym. Its very very small. Only free weights and two cardio machines. If there is more then 1-2 people, theres no space. Also no water available.
Booked bed and breakfast option in a room with 2 queens and a sofa bed, to accommodate 3 adults in separate beds. Arrived in town early (12:30pm vs 3:00pm check-in) so thought I would try my luck checking in early. Front desk checked and advised the room was available, so I could check in. Went to the room to find it was the wrong room type. Trudge back to reception to be advised my room type will be available in 30 minutes, if I would like to wait. After 90 minutes of waiting - I find the person is no longer on duty, no one knows anything about me and bluntly advises check-in is at 3:00pm come back after. I fully understand check-in time, but why screw me around and waste my time? The breakfast deal consists of either a boxed meal selected the night before, or a $10 credit for use at the adjoining Chop restaurant. You need to visit reception on every day of your stay to request new vouchers. Although time consuming and a pain, it generally worked - except on one occasion when the abrasive and argumentative reception clerk insisted the breakfast offer was for one person only and would only provide 1 voucher, and if I didn’t like it, I could speak to the hotel general manager - and he handed me the GMs business card - for me to learn that the GM was no longer on duty. I didn’t accept the 1 voucher, therefore the hotel did not honor the breakfast on one of the five days on my stay. Perhaps the worst part of the entire stay was the constantly failing door access cards - which I believe worked no more than one time each time they had to be re-programmed at reception constantly. On one such day it required four consecutive trips between the room and reception to reprogram cards (not just one card, but all three failed, every time) before realizing maintenance needed to be called to reset the room door - net result is we were locked out of the room for about 90 minutes. There was not one day of the five, that the door cards worked consistently. At times felt like I was spending more time at reception (and in the elevator, and walking back and forwards) than in the room! Through all of this I must have encountered 6 or 7 different reception clerks - never during the entire stay did one of them offer a simple apology for the inconvenience. I was left with the expectation that I should be thanking them. They rank amongst some of the unfriendliest, worst trained, argumentative hotel front desk people I have ever encountered. Amazed this place is still in business. My first and last stay at this property - there are infinity better options in Ottawa.…
The Sandman is conveniently located close to the airport and many restaurants and fast food places. The hotel itself doesn’t offer many amenities other than an airport shuttle. There isn’t a breakfast and I’ve never seen a pool as small as the one there. Maybe 12 feet by 10? And no deck area to sit. On the first night of our stay one of the elevators was broken but the other one sounded like it was on its way out, too. A clunking noise whenever the elevator reached the 2nd floor. By the time we left both seemed to have been fixed. Our room was very spacious with a really comfortable bed. Although, I’m not sure what that stain was (picture provided) when I moved the pillows out of the way. Lots of USB ports in the room which is always a plus. The bedside alarm clock is gigantic but so bright! Way better options in Ottawa near the airport for similar cost. You won’t be disappointed but not really amazed either.…
We have stayed in many hotels this year for cheer competitions and this one by far was the absolute best. I love this hotel. It is sssooooo clean and organized. Gagandeep Singh was always available and very pleasant. I will always pick the sandman signature hotels from now on. I am completely satisfied. Love it.
This hotel is an unorganized disaster. I booked a corporate queen room for my sister and I that was supposed to have two queen beds, a tub and shower, as indicated on their website. Check in was March 16 with checkout March 18. Twice, I let the hotel know in advance we would be a late arrival around midnight into the 17th. They confirmed they had this info. Great. When we stepped out of the airport and called for the shuttle, we were told that we were already checked in. I asked how that was possible since we’re still at the airport. The front desk assumed this was because we were late arrival and it was a way of guaranteeing the room. I’m well travelled and thought this to be highly suspicious since I’ve never been told this on a late arrival before. But, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. We arrive at the hotel, check in “again” and receive our keys for room 606 on the 6th floor. As we step into this dark room, and as my eyes adjust, I see a coat hanging over a chair and a shoe on the floor. My eyes move toward the bed to find a man sleeping in it. I felt mortified and absolutely panicked, rushing out as quickly as I could, accidentally letting the door slam behind me, and running down the hall from embarrassment. As I’m running back towards the elevator, I can hear a dog barking from within one of the rooms. We go back to check in and I said there are people sleeping in that room!! (Probably the people they checked in under my name and if not, just another blunder of theirs).. we get issued a new key and a staff member comes up this time. It’s a new room on the same floor and we start walking towards where I previously heard the dog barking. I said oh no, I can’t be near a barking dog. He seemed puzzled because it was currently quiet. As he takes us to the new room, and just as we’re about to go in, the barking dog starts up again and is in the room directly across from us. I said NOPE, I can’t do this. The staff member said the dog wasn’t even supposed to be in there/on this floor because all animals are to be in rooms on the ground floor for stain purposes. So back down to the front desk we go. This time we’re told we’ll be put into a room on the 4th floor and it should be quiet because that’s where flight crews stay. Perfect. We get escorted to our room on the 4th floor and as I walk in, I check the bathroom. There’s no tub and only a shower. I said I booked a room with a tub. Staff radios down to the front desk and he issues another room to us. Now we go back upstairs to the 5th floor, room 532. Still no tub. Then we’re told there’s no rooms available tonight with tubs and to check with management in the morning. First thing in the morning I go down and speak with the manager, Ahmed, who was very apologetic. He advised me that none of their queen rooms have tubs, only showers. He was proactive and checked the website to see that it’s falsely advertised that they do. But, it’s now March 19 (I’m back home in Winnipeg) and the website still reflects this false information. It hasn’t even been corrected. Ahmed said the first nights stay would be complimentary and he upgraded us to a king suite (which had a tub) on the same floor and it was immediately ready which was nice but I barely slept from the fiasco the night prior. This new room was fine apart from having to share a bed and the bathtub wasn’t properly cleaned because there was loads of hair all over it. I was too tired at this point to complain, especially after 5 room changes, so I cleaned it myself. Upon checkout, the 18th, the front desk staff said so you’ve extended your stay? I said, pardon? No. I’m checking out on time and asked for a late checkout at 1230 instead of 12. He then asked if my visa ended in … (reads out the last 4 digits). I said no, that’s not my visa. So they stapled someone else’s visa to my bill. Again, Ahmed comes over to try and correct this and meanwhile our shuttle is waiting on us and I’m worried my own credit card is attached to someone else’s room / extended stay. Ahmed finally fixed it up but I’m waiting to see what the actual charge is that goes through. Although Ahmed tried his best to make it right, the hotel experience was ruined. Their lack of attention to detail, and the huge concern they still checked someone in under my name when you need to present I.D, is absolutely inexcusable. I would have rated this hotel a 1 but gave it a 2 for Ahmed’s effort.…
This well equipped Suite was very comfortable for our 4 Night stay. It provided all the comforts in the space we had, large fridge, 2 burner stove, Microwave, even a Dishwasher. It was well laid out, the only thing I missed was an additional shower head, for the Ladies the Rain Shower although very nice is not the best way to go, especially if you are not washing your hair everyday and don’t have a Shower Cap. One other feature they should have instead of the Bureau in the closet area between the bathroom and Bedroom would be a vanity with a Mirror for doing Hair and Makeup, this way you don’t need to use the Bathroom for all that, if you are 2 people it much more convenient. Cassandra at the front desk was Amazing we really appreciated her help! Great job! We will be back!
Kassandra at front desk made are stay a lot easier when are flights were cancelled, hotel was full got us hooked up with our rooms for another night, hooked us up with some perks at the hotel resteraunt, everyone very friendly go out of there way to help out
