Getting there
Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The location of this hotel was great, and my suite was very spacious, with a full stove, fridge, and basic cooking equipment. There was a proper table to eat at, and a decent sized sofa in the seating area. The bedroom was fully separate with a door, not just another area of the room. I've lived in apartments that were smaller!
The bed was comfortable, and the air con held up well during a heat dome. The decor was very tired, and cleanliness was just average.
The main drawback for me was that the pool & gym didn't open until 9am. I was there on business, so was in meetings by then, and my evenings were taking up with additional meetings and corporate entertaining. This meant it was impossible for me to use the facilities. I always select hotels with these facilities while travelling for work, as staying active is very important to me, and had I known the opening times (9am-10pm) I never would have booked this hotel.

If what you’re looking for is location and space, this one is a great choice. We walked literally everywhere we went. We had a two-bedroom suite so the kids had a room to themselves and we had a master bedroom to ourselves in addition to the small living room, small eating area and small kitchen. We couldn’t have dreamed of a better space for that amount of money. But since it is so affordable, forget about niceties: no free shampoo, decoration hasn’t been updated since the nineties, shower head sucks, beds are uncomfortable, etc. Another bad surprise: when we came, the pool was under renovation (the kids had been really looking forward to it). When I asked for dish soap and coffee filters, they sent it up to my room without trouble. Parking is expensive so we used the Indigo one at St. Teresa church at the next stop sign. One third of the price for a 3 day pass. Overall, awesome spot but not recommended for capricious people.

Dear Romy, Our locations is definitely one of the things we are very proud of about our hotel. We are so lucky to have a property in the heart of Ottawa and a very strategic location that brings our guest just a few steps away from must-see attractions and modern-day conveniences. We are an eco-friendly hotel and provide guest amenities but we do not offer individual small plastic bottles of lotion or conditioner in our suites. We do provide dispensers in all suites that contain liquid soap as well as shampoo. On your next visit, we are happy to share with you a sample itinerary that will help you maximize your stay in the area. I hope to see you again soon. Cartier Customer Care

Great location and value. Rooms have all the basics for a multi-day stay... fridge, stove, coffee maker, dishwasher. Balconies and living area. Not wildly fancy but everything was as advertised, clean and functional. Helpful and friendly staff, nice hot tub. The location is great because you are next to the canal, endless restaurants / pubs / coffeeshops, as well as close to all the center city attractions.

I came to Cartier Place Suite Hotel for two weeks in September 2024, but I realized the location, rooms, and price were superior to all of my other options, so I have stayed for over three months. First, the location is excellent, especially for people like me who are visiting or working at University of Ottawa. An easy and enjoyable walk via a bridge over the Rideau Canal. Easy walking or bus service to all of the sights, including Parliament and the great Museum of Natural History. There is an interesting variety of great, nearby places for eating out, including the restaurant on the first floor (The Alembic) at the hotel where the service is personal and enticing food and drink.
What I especially appreciated was the staff at the hotel is friendly and welcoming to guests. I have come to know everyone at the front desk on a first name basis, and the cleaning staff have all been reliable and charming too. Even the grounds maintenance people are special -- they all take pride in the appearance of the hotel! (Every holiday has its own theme of decorations in the lobby -- and the sidewalks are well-maintained, even in the worst of weather). The underground garage is temperature controlled with good security. There are clean and well-maintained laundry machines on each floor. The small kitchens have everything you need (and there is a nearby Dollarama for more!). There is a small but very clean and functional exercise room, and the indoor pool for swimming laps has kept me happy and exercising even in the worst weather. I like the fact that there are functional balconies (with VERY well insulated doors, cutting out street noise at night), and the bathrooms have a full-size combination tub/shower with plenty of hot water.
What started as a brief hotel stay, has indeed become a "home away from home" during my working sabbatical.

Filthy Pool. As neighbours we have used their pool over a number of years but after a month or so we always leave because the Swimming Pool and Change Rooms have remained dirty and neglected. After a few months we go back hoping that it's improved but it hasn't ... again. Pool hours have been drastically reduced and the cost has doubled over the past several years but their standards of cleanliness remain abysmal.
This morning we turned in our monthly passes early and vowed never to return. To illustrate my point I ran a white towel over the floor and it came up black with dirt. The manager made noises about not having enough staff and claiming that they have Housekeeping supervisors with 20 years experience and that they have just completed a special Report. All I can say is that none of this matters when I always spent a few minutes each morning scooping up the clumps of hair floating in the pool and dodging the accumulated filth on the floor. Spiders and cobwebs remain untouched for weeks on end. Is ANYONE cleaning this place?
It really is disgusting and should raise serious questions about the cleanliness of the whole building. Very disappointed.

Booked 3 rooms for an upcoming business trip. 30 minutes later, we realized the dates were incorrect and wanted to change the dates for one week later. The rooms we pick were non refundable and change could not be made. We called the hotel to ask for date change and were willing to pay a change fee. But the answer was a rounding NO!. Expedia tried to step in and help. Still no. Ultimately this is my error but the fact that they could not bend after 30 minutes was really bad customer service. It was days or weeks later when we called. I am out $1000 and have to book again for the following week as this is where we need to stay.

This is an older hotel, which is in need of redecorating but very clean and all rooms are suites with a full kitchen, dining room, living room, separate bedroom and a bathroom. There is also a very nice balcony to sit on and watch the world go by. In addition, there were also a very large indoor swimming pool and hot tub. Staff at the desk were helpful and accommodating. Location was excellent in the heart of the Elgin Street restaurant district. Easy walk to almost anywhere downtown.

Be aware if you open cannabis products in your room this hotel will accuse you of smoking and charge you $300.00 for a deep cleaning fee . It doesn’t matter if you explain it’s legal and was never smoked in room even the owner doesn’t care , they go by if the maid smells cannabis then says you were smoking in room . You will have to go to court to get your money back , owner & manager of hotel completely back up what staff tells them . Not to mention it was like I was back in the 1970’s , extremely uncomfortable furniture, kitchens are 30 years old with no cooking utensils .

This hotel is really in a prime location to enjoy all that the capital can offer. The closest place to eat/drink is literally at the end of the street. The hotel has very large suite type rooms with a Kitchen, lounge and separate bedroom. The rooms are well appointed with a large TV and two large beds. The complementary breakfast in the morning was a nice touch to get you going. The staff were very helpful and the check-in was very quick.

Nothing has changed in 20 plus years. The rooms of the one-bedroom suite look just as they did back then. The cabinets and drawers of the kitchen do need some TLC as they were looking worn and were difficult to open. The bathroom is dated but worked well, hot water, lovely soap and shampoo. Some railings should be added to the tub just to make getting in and out a little easier for those of us who are older. The pillows were the softest I have ever known. No USB points and sockets for charging phones were rather weak - there were charging points in the hallways where the payphones used to be. There also used to be small business centre with one computer, which might be an idea to bring back. The pool appeared to be the same but was not open late enough to use by guests. Housekeeping was fine, although there is none on weekends. Alas, it was winter as it would have been nice to enjoy the balcony.

It’s $30 I believe but they offer deals some times, I had a deal from a certain hotel website being a VIP member. It’s a very steep parking lot but very secure under ground. Hope that helps.
