Stepping into McGee’s Inn is like visiting a bygone era. Back when the world was a nice and polite place, with soft furnishings, discreet luxury, and courteous people wherever you turned.
Our room is spacious, comfortable, and impeccably clean. The WiFi works flawlessly, the quiet sets in during the evening and stays throughout the night, and the old-fashioned decor provides a delightful ambiance around the clock.
Breakfast is a chapter of its own. A free choice between several egg dishes with sausages, along with toast, juice, coffee, or tea. Everything is served piping hot from the kitchen.
The location is within walking distance of Parliament Hill, ByWard Market, and most of Ottawa’s other attractions, as well as restaurants and shops.
There’s affordable parking in front of the hotel.

Wonderful stay in a charming Victorian Inn, nicely decorated with antiques, and welcoming atmosphere. The included breakfast was amazing, with great coffee. The location was excellent, within a short walk of the Rideau Canal 0.0km start point for skating. Handy to the Winterlude ice sculptures. Nice walk to the Parliament buildings.
Our room (#19) was clean and comfortable and the walk up 2 sets of stairs was not a problem for us

We stayed in the Egyptian room for 1 night. The room was clean, cozy, and large. The bed was comfortable to our liking. The room has a hot tub in the corner. The washroom, complete with walk-in shower for 2, is separate from the bedroom. It was also very clean.
Judith (the owner) is very pleasant and cheerful. Ashley (the assistant) is very nice and polite. Breakfast was great. Check in was a breeze. The Inn is a historical building dating back to 1886, so it is nice to stay there if you are interested in a bit of history.
The Inn is located in a residential area and within a 15 minute walk from the By Market and maybe 20 minutes from Parliament and shopping centrer. Great location.

Overall the stay was good. I spend four nights there, traveling solo, in December 2022, and I got the only room that was available, #24 in the Annex (more on that later). My assessment on the good and bad:
The Good: It has a great breakfast! Everyday it was very tasty and good. The location is also very good; you are close to everything without being in the middle of it. Plus, there is a a Loblaws (supermarket) close by. The vibe of the Inn is very charming, homey, and welcoming.
The Bad: I think the room you are in matters greatly to your enjoyment. The only room available when I booked was #24, in the Annex, which means you are not in the main house, but have to go outside through the parking lot to get to the main house and dining room. The charm in the rest of the Inn is not really present here. At first, I thought this wouldn't be too bad, as it might not be as creaky, as old houses can be, but then I realized, at the end, it was because there was nobody above me. Once someone checked in above, yeah, I realized it was very noisy and hard to sleep, in addition to lacking charm. The entry faces the parking lot, so anytime a driver parks (or snow plow comes in to plow the driveway) you will hear it. Again, this is my fault, that I didn't pay attention to the other reviews when I booked this room.
Two other things to note, within the main house there is a lot of old, upholstered furniture in the dining area, and I suspect other rooms. I could see those with allergies having issues. The other is for breakfast, you had to pick a time: 8am or 9am. For me, I had busy days lined up, so this was not an issue for me, though for those who might like to be less planned when on vacation, this might be an annoyance.
Overall, very good.

Your comment - "there is a lot of old upholstered furniture" All the furniture has been re-upholstered to keep the "antique" vibe - that is the charm of our Inn and is appreciated by our guests.

We stayed one night at McGee’s and had a very great room. There was an extra bed, a TV and a fridge. The bed was comfortable. Although McGee’s is strategically located and easy to walk into town, the neighborhood is still difficult at first glance. Breakfast can be chosen from a small menu and was delicious. The staff is super nice.

My brother and I spend 4 nights at McGee in the end of July 2022. Because of a delayed flight we did not arrive till 1.30 am but were welcomed by the night porter. The Room (12) was spacious with two comfortable single beds. Breakfast menu was varied with tea and coffee on tap all day. The meals were well cooked and served by a cheerful and helpful staff.Any request was always met promptly and cheerfully. Within 10 minutes walk fro the main attractions and town centre yet in a lovely setting. Much better than the usual chain hotels. Certainly will stay here on our next visit and would recommend to any prospective travellers.

Really lovely experience! Great Victorian vibes and the breakfast was fantastic. I really enjoyed the atmosphere- it felt much cozier than a typical hotel or motel.
I used to live in Ottawa but now go there regularly for work and I’ll definitely stay here again. It’s in the downtown/parliament hill area but also close enough to the residential areas that you don’t have to deal with all the shops shutting down after 4 pm the way you do on the other side of the canal. And on a residential street too which I find nice.

We were so impressed with this lovely inn! They have maintained the character of this era well, with so many beautiful artifacts and attention to detail. Beautiful and comfortable rooms, delicious breakfast, and a very friendly and accommodating staff made for the perfect stay. We would recommend this place to anyone and would definitely return if we plan a stay in Ottawa in the future.

Beautifully decorated historical home. Guest rooms were tasteful to include historical decor and modern conveniences. Mattress and pillows were great and had a good sleep. The breakfast served was awesome and the staff polite and kind. It is walkable to tourist activities too. I would stay again !

We had an excellent stay at McGee's Inn! We stayed in the Family Suite and is was spacious enough for the 3 of us. The beds were very comfortable. It was clean and tastefully decorated. It also had 3 large windows which let in a lot of light. The hot breakfasts were delicious and included in our stay. We felt safe at McGee's Inn and it was quiet. The history of the Inn is very fascinating and makes for a unique accommodation. We definitely preferred this B & B to last year's hotel in the Sandy Hill area. Highly recommended!
