During these times of pandemic, it is a challenge for wedding venues to be able to offer their full potential to their clients. Mask wearing, social distancing and all sorts of accommodations had to be enforced, yet the staff was very courteous, welcoming and understanding (kids running around, etc.). The service, the food, the venue, indoor, outdoor, everything was great. Nothing was missing and they were working tirelessly to make my cousin's wedding unforgettable. Highly recommended!

Wow, Strathmere was more than what I remembered from the first time my husband and I stayed at Strathmere years ago for a wedding. This time was for another wedding and once again we booked the School House (for my family from out of town). The Wedding was beautifully setup, food was amazing, lots of different areas to enjoy (indoors and outdoors); stay in the School House has it's charm (homey) , very clean, had everything you needed. Our ratings 10/10. RECOMMEND Strathmere. You won't regret it.

Our daughter was married here on Jan 3,2015. It was magical! The lodge setting was beautiful. The wedding originally was going to take place outside but Mother Nature had other ideas, the staff quickly arranged the indoor ceremony setup and it was lovely. The food, which is usually the biggest hit or miss, was a HIT! It was high end resturant quality. Everyone commented that it was excellent. Kristen the wedding coordinator was great, willing to help with anything.
The only negative I would say was the lack of plowing and clearing of the snow and ice. It snowed about 10 cm and the exit area was not cleared timely and the next moring. Freezing rain hit and again the areas were treacherous for walking. everything else was great!

I attended a family wedding here this past weekend. The grounds and the venue was lovely. The food for the wedding was awesome. Unfortunately, I found the bartender very rude. (He didn't get a tip from me.) I attended the wedding with my disabled mother who has limited mobility and we had booked their only handicap room. This room was definitely not handicap equipped. There was no walkway to the room. I had to push her wheelchair across the wet lawn to get to the room. The bed in the room was almost 4 feet high which made it very difficult to climb into or get out of. There were no handrails in the bathroom for the tub or the toilet. No bath for her! To get to the building where the wedding was being held, I either had to push her back across the wet lawn to the car and drive her to the building or get help and have her walk up a dozen steps while I pushed the wheelchair. Once we arrived at the building where the wedding was held, it was great, wheelchair friendly. I definitely would not recommend that anyone who is disabled stay here. Getting a wheelchair into a room does not make a "handicap room". They have a long way to go before they can say, they are handicap equip.

Had a good time at a wedding there. The food and venue was good, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The grounds are beautiful and make for lovely pictures as all the trees were changing colour.

One thing I did find odd about the accommodations is that check out is 10am which I think is way too early when you are a day after a wedding or similar function, especially when you want to have breakfast. Our room was really cold because it was in one of the older buildings and the plumbing was noisy. The newer buildings have newer rooms obviously.

I stayed here the night after my friend was married at Strathmere. It's a gorgeous location outside of Ottawa. Very quaint. The rooms where people sleep are just okay. They were clean but we didn't have hot water and could hear everyone speaking in the halls and other rooms. We tried to take showers in the morning and couldn't, kind of annoying. The food for breakfast was also just alright, bagels and jam and juice. I wouldn't stay here again unless it was for a wedding - purely based on the convenience factor. I would not stay here for a romantic night as it doesn't feel like you have any privacy when you can hear everyone else and they can probably hear you too.

We stayed here because my sister was getting married on the premises. We stayed in the main house, where the wedding festivities was taking place. We didn't have far to go when it was time for bed. Our room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. Our guest room had bedroom with queen bed and a separate sitting area with a pullout couch for the kids to sleep on. The decor definitely reflected the "bed and breakfast"/country style of the Inn. This is not a contemporary and luxurious hotel. However, the decor is simple and it reflects very well the feel of this historical site. No complaints whatsoever. The outdoor ceremony was wonderful and the dinning hall looked amazing! The meal during the wedding was sophisticated and incredibly delicious. The continental breakfast which is included in the price of our night's stay also offered a very good selection. There is much to explore on the premises, but unfortunately, I cannot say that we wondered too far given our involvement in the wedding. But the grounds were lovely with beautiful spring blooms. This picture perfect wedding venue or relaxing getaway is highly recommended!

When we first saw the grounds at Strathmere we were impressed. We had a tour and an initial discussion about what we wanted for our wedding which was simple BBQ style buffet foods, bring our own pie instead of wedding cake, and overall a simple wedding on a smaller budget. We were told this is all possible and signed the contract and paid the deposit.
The first issues started cropping up with the menu: we were told we could have a custom menu, but the first draft price well exceeded our budget and what we had said in the initial discussion. We started the discussion by choosing items directly off the a la carte menu we were provided. The menu returned to us had been completely changed, the price raised, and no explanation was sent with it, just a word doc. We sent back a revision with explanations as to why we wanted things changed. We were then referred to the ‘Food Stylist’ directly. She sent another revised menu which still did not meet our changes (which were based on allergies and intolerances - we would only have been able to eat half of the things on there) again with no explanation as to why, and a lower price but still not what we had been told was possible in the beginning. We emailed substituting some menu items within this revision with items from the first menu sent to us and sent it back. We heard no response for a month (granted it was over Christmas time so...). We got a third revised menu and things had been added and changed yet again seemingly randomly and moving farther away from what we wanted in the first place, again with no explanation for the changes. We decided to call as we assumed there was some miscommunication happening. During this call my fiancé and I were referred to by the Food Stylist as ‘the kids’ which I find completely unprofessional as we are most certainly not children and should not have been referred to with such condescension.
We had in the initial discussion mentioned we wanted to have pie instead of the traditional cake for our wedding and were told that it was fine, no problems at all. We had asked in an email for some vendors with a focus on pies and tarts and 2 suggestions with links were sent. When we came to actually planning this we were told that “Strathmere must provide and serve all food and beverages, except the wedding cake and cupcakes”. We emailed expressing our confusion at this, mentioning that we had been told in the initial visit it was fine and that we had been sent suggestions. This was met with Strathmere asking to resend the emails where they said this as they “cannot find it in the system”. Their reason for refusing to allow us to have pies was that they are “very messy and difficult for this type of service”.
We also found it hard to communicate with Strathmere as our questions were answered with vague and generalized answers that did not help very much in the planning of our wedding. Or the emails were not answered at all. We had to resend emails twice asking if they had somehow gotten lost because there was no response for weeks.
Covid became another issue entirely. We were allowed to postpone our wedding with no financial penalty or extras back in March when this all started, however the new date had to be before April 30th 2021 (we had been planning to get married in May). We could not just move it to the same date next year or anything nearer to our date. We did eventually get a May date but it was a struggle. As everyone knows Covid is still very prevalent and as our new wedding date drew nearer we wanted to know Strathmere’s policy concerning Covid. What they sent back was very vague and required a minimum payment of 45 adults no matter what the restrictions were. (So if 10 people were the max allowed at weddings we would still be paying for 45 people total). We received a second communication about Covid a few weeks later which indicated that we could remain with or date or postpone again, HOWEVER this postponement came with additional cost! If it was before December 15 2021 we were to pay an extra deposit of $500, OR we could postpone up to July 31 of 2022 but we would need to pay an extra $1000. This is on top of the large deposit we had already paid to Strathmere originally.
We ultimately decided to cancel our wedding as we did not feel Strathmere’s focus was on safety during Covid and their options for postponement did not feel reasonable to us. When we cancelled we were met with an email that reiterated we could pay the extra money to postpone, mentioned how hard done they were by Covid, and how our cancellation of our wedding meant a significant loss to Strathmere. Their focus was only on their financial loss; there was no mention of our wedding day being lost to us, or any regrets extended at our suffering.
Overall we have been displeased with the service offered from Strathmere. The headaches, stress, and anxiety caused by the lack of communication, the unwillingness to explain or compromise, and the general attitude towards us expressed by Strathmere have left us with nothing but resentment and more grief.

We had a family event with a number to rooms over a couple nights. Without our attention, we would have been double charged for a room due to the staff lack of attention. Took 3 calls to resolve. It's overpriced for the room and included breakfast, $190 but room interior is 2 or 3 star.

Our wedding coordinator was not attentive to detail, do not go with the onsite coordinator service.

Wedding dinner was very good food, but timing of course was very delayed.

This place could be good if it would train up staff to be excellent at customer service.
