Actually I was there in the summer of 2022. I had a single room on the 1st floor. It was fine. I liked the available coffee ... No issues for me, but perhaps because I am 65+ and had a single room. I also liked the free parking in bzck.

Because of this ed experience I am renting a sin gh li bedroom in mid-August 2023 with the same parking too. Don't expect any "issues" this visit, either.

This was a quirky little place that I actually liked. The staff working were incredibly warm and welcoming to the of us that stayed here together.

It wasnt too far from the centre of ottawa so theres plenty around you.

Unfortunately the aircon in our room seemed to be broken which meant for a very hot nice sleep.

Its very reaaonably priced with a cozy atmosphere.

Very well located in the Byward Market area, and within walking distance to Ottawa's main attractions. The place is ok, clean, comfortable and with A/C in the rooms. Beds could use an upgrade though. Service was nothing special but was alright for a hostel. Recommended.

Very dirty room, found dirt and hair on the bed. The bathroom was also very dirty, with a door that didn't lock. The staff were unhelpful and unfriendly. Wouldn't recommend if you are travelling alone as a woman, as didn't feel particularly safe.

Stayed there 1 night and woke up in the middle of the night covered in bed bug bites. That should be enough reason not to ever stay at this place!! When I complained about it in the morning they refunded my money and I heard the staff members talking amongst themselves how it wasn't the first time and they should probably do something about it!! Disgusting.

I had a choice of staying here or at the Jail Hostel, and decided on this one because of the TripAdvisor comments I read. It's very clean and mellow.
Note that they have VERY limited locker space for your belongings. I was there in the off season (January) and all the non-small lockers were FULL. If you are really backpacking or have more than one bag, it might be best to book a private room because there's a secure lock on the door and you can stow your luggage safely. OR, if you only have money for a dorm bed, you can transfer valuables to a small bag to be placed in the available small locker, and put non-valuables in the larger bag under your bed. Thievery seems to be rare. Bring your own lock, or buy one for $3.
About the beds - they are comfortable and sleep-able, particularly on a scale of average hostels. My private room had free linens, a TV, and functional radiator heat which you can adjust to your liking. Two people can fit in one bed.
There's a payphone downstairs. It tends to eat your money, so bring a phone card instead.
The internet is not free, but it's relatively cheap, and you can check it all night long if you like. Similiarly, you can use the kitchen at 2am if you care to.
They provide dishes and cutlery, with an honor system of dish-washing duty. The "mark your food" system is in effect for the fridge. There is unlimited free tea, and designated "free food" left by guests.
I didn't explore the neighborhood much, but there's a corner store one block away, and a major bank ATM two blocks away. The staff, particularly Martin, were very helpful with directions.
If travelling by bus from Montreal, tell the driver you are getting off at the University stop. I took a quick cab from the University, so if you want the local bus connection to the hostel, look up Ottawa's bus system online.
There is a deadline to check-in (when the reception desk person goes to bed). Like 9 or 10 pm. After that, you have 24-hour access and no curfew. You pay when you check in and it's Cash Only.
Oh yeah, take off your shoes at the front door.

I stayed at this hostel for 3 nights, my first night in a private room and my following 2 nights in a shared 4 bed mixed dorm.

Starting with my first nights stay, I got to the hostel quite late at night so decided to stay in a private room so I wouldn't wake up my fellow travellers, luckily for me the staff at reception were still up, so they checked me in and helped me take my luggage to my room which was in the basement, in all honesty I didn't like my private room, it was dark, felt a bit damp and a little on the unclean side so I wasn't feeling all too positive about my stay straight away however, I got a nice quiet nights sleep which was exactly what I was after. The shared bathroom was clean.

My shared room was great, it was actually better than my private room, it was much cleaner, had a small cupboard space and the room was a good size, it was still quiet at night. Again the bathrooms were super clean.

A few things I really like about this hostel which I've not really felt at some other hostels I've stayed at, I liked the fact there was a large lounge with t which gave a more homely feel,, free tea and coffee was just amazing, the staff were all super friendly and helpful, it felt like I was staying in a big house rather than a hostel. There are lockers in the stair wells but you need your own lock.

The location is great, just a short walk to parliament hill, super close to Byward Market, plenty of places to eat and drink around, I would definitely recommend this hostel.

I spent about a month at this hostel when i first arrived in Ottawa while looking for perm accom. (I previously stayed at the HI gaol hostel, but left after one night, the place was noisy, staff rude and drinking was out of control.)

the inn is very friendly, safe, clean has good facilities (kitchen etc) a nice tv room and lounge - more like a family home though than the usual purpose built hostel. The owner is great, very hlepful and always remembers your name. The only hostel in canada/usa i would rate higher would be the humming bird on flores island, but that would be for the location not the hostel itself.

The hostel is in a good location, right in the market, but not near pubs etc so quiet.

While i was there the owner organised a couple of bbq's on the back deck. There is a great deck on the front for drinking a free coffee/tea and watching the world walk by.

The rooms are good, i only stayed in a private (usual size, double bed and with a tv) and a semi-private (like the private room but has a curtain for one wall and no tv, but works out the same price as 2 bunks). don't know what the dorm rooms are like but i didn't hear any complaints from other people staying there.

only thing really wrong with the place was the lack of washer/dryer on site, but a short walk away so not a big deal just anoying.

Dirty, smelly dorm rooms. - air conditioning is a complete joke (a small unit in a window that would stuggle to keep a small room cool not at all suitable for dorm with 10 people!)
Constant smoking front and back porch - whole place stank of canabis.
Long term residents dominated and were a little creepy at times -
Issues with cleaning
Lack of bathrooms
Security issues - people just wonder in and out (whats the point of only one of the door's being locked?)
lack of sufficient lockers
Dishonest pricing

Area is very sketchy ... nearby shelters and many drug and homlessless issues .

There is free tea and coffee and wifi - other than that I cannot find much positive to say.

Old Building, centric, simple, practical, good ambient. Low in space. Narrow rooms. Good bathrooms (only two is pretty insufficient sometimes during the day, specially mornings). Excellent location (10 minuts walk to Parliament, close to the restaurant zone). Parquing available!
