A friendly, cozy, downtown boutique hotel with a very attractive decor. Great front desk staff (Noella, Shirley and Rahel) who made checking in and out an experience instead of a task. Room was very comfortable with lots of space, appeared to be newly renovated. Overall the interior was extremely clean and tidy. I definitely recommend this hotel if you want proximity to everything in the downtown area. One suggestion, book directly with the hotel, they are very accommodating and flexible when it comes to price and room upgrades. Definitely my go to Ottawa hotel.

Stayed for 1 night, which happened to be during Winterlude so that felt like a bonus. Made for a great location because festivities took place about 4min walk away on Sparks St. Front desk staff super helpful and printed off list of activities with locations/times etc.

Room: clean, modern industrial trendy decor

Parking: $25. You initially park in front on Metcalfe St, 15min grace period to get bags and get checked in. Once ready to park, they give you instructions on how to get to the parking garage. Felt confusing at first but got used to it and was no biggie after that first time.

Location: 4min walk to parliament area, and sparks St. Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Second Cup all at the same corner at Metcalfe/Slater St. Gabriel's Pizza across from hotel was actually really good and convenient so that was handy.

Would return in the future, and would recommend.

We had a lovely two night stay at the Metcalfe. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the lobby has an interesting industrial design. We had a large room that was nicely decorated with old, historic photos. Upon arrival, the staff member checking us in also offered us recommendations on where to eat for dinner.

When we left the hotel, we lost a case of memory cards. The hotel staff worked easily with us to ensure that the cards were sent back to us in the US. We really enjoyed our stay along with all our interactions with staff!

Beautiful boutique hotel with great, unique decor. The high ceilings let a lot of light in and create great spacious atmosphere. The common areas are lovely, there is coffee, water, and tea in the lobby. The rooms are not very large but well decorated and very comfortable with a spacious bathroom. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

The only downside is the pool which is shared with a neighbouring hotel and doesn't quite match the Metcalfe.

I am a physically disabled Ottawa resident who works downtown. Yesterday (Saturday), I was looking for a place to use the bathroom when the handicapped access washroom at work was out of order. I went across the street to the Metcalf Hotel and used their public washroom on the 2nd floor. On the way back downstairs the elevator broke down. The staff in the lobby called the Fire Dept to rescue me. By the time I got back downstairs I had missed my Para Transpo ride home to Nepean. The staff on duty in the hotel lobby at the time (Patrick, Mariette and Hassan), allowed me to stay in the lobby to wait. They gave me a snack, allowed me to use the bathroom in a handicapped access suite (via the guest elevators, which was working). They even called an accessible taxi to take me home, and made sure the hotel covered the cab fare. I stayed in there for 2 hours waiting for an accessible taxi to arrive because it was a busy Saturday night. I could not have asked for better hospitality. Thank you, a million times thank you !!!!!

Dear 283KristaV, Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us. Knowing that our team could be there for you in a difficult moment means the world to us, and we’re grateful that you stopped by and felt well cared for by Patrick, Mariette, and Hassan. I also want to mention that our manager, Dameo, had the privilege of speaking with you over the phone, and he shared with us how honored he felt hearing about your experience firsthand. He was incredibly grateful to know that our team was quick to think on their feet and that they found a way to get you home safely after missing your Para Transpo ride. We’re very sorry for the elevator issue and the impact it had on your plans, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding during the delay. Thank you again for your kind words and for giving us the chance to help. Your feedback reinforces our commitment to looking out for all who come through our doors, and we hope to welcome you anytime you’re nearby. Wishing you all the best! “THE METCALFE HOTEL” Excellent hotel with an excellent location in Ottawa’s downtown core. Absolutely gorgeous and clean exterior and interior, the design and outlay of the hotel and rooms are a must see. When inquiring about the hotel we spoke with David Graham the Food & Beverage Manager, he was elated to tell us about the hotel and what it offers, what a pleasure speaking with him, you can tell he really enjoys making sure the guest get the full experience, he went above and beyond describing location & tips about the city, markets, shops, restaurants and events happening within walking distance of the hotel.
Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff, the concierge Nabil was an absolute gem, he added to the experience always making sure we were receiving the best service possible, extremely informative, and pleasant, they are so very fortunate to have him. Not to forget to mention the Vala Ramiro, so professional and friendly. I will definitely recommend this hotel to everybody! It's a true sample of excellent hospitality. Thank you again David, Nabil & Ramiro for making our ladies weekend memorable!

I stayed at this hotel for business when in Ottawa recently. Previously, I had stayed over closer to the downtown markets area and found this hotel to be more to my liking. It seems to be in a nice neighbourhood with lots of shops and surrounding restaurants. Check in, housekeeping and all levels of service were excellent. As I had a number of business dinners I didn’t use the on-site restaurant so not quite sure of the quality there but the bar area and the canapés they served for a business reception were all top class. The only downside is the hotel rooms are based around an open atrium where events are sometimes held, so tjere can be some noise levels coming up from the interior hotel to your room, but overall this was not really a problem

We spent two nights at The Metcalfe over the February long weekend. The staff was friendly and the lobby was welcoming (trendy decorations). There is parking ($25 + tax a night) in an adjacent building. You have to take a couple of different elevators to get to it, which was a little annoying. However,it is all inside. The room was nice: king bed, good size bathroom. The blow dryer was great (for hotel standards). Coffee was provided (not great). The hotel is centrally located and within walking distance to everything.

The same problem befalls all areas at this hotel, annoying inconsistency in service which is a fundamental part of hotel operations. Poor service equals poor experience equals customer won't come back.

For example in most hotels, cleaning of rooms is done early in the day. At the Metcalfe it is "anywhere up to 5pm" which means you can return from a day of tourism in Ottawa to find your room still dirty at 4pm.

Or maybe we could talk about the reception staff who are basically incredibly inexperienced and poorly trained, for example repeatedly asking you for information they already have on file.

But the worst offender by far is the hotel's restaurant. The staff there are on the whole highly inexperienced and poorly trained. And the level of inconsistency in the service is on a whole other level. Throughout our stay there, we only had one good server who was experienced and on the ball. All other servers were forgetful, disinterested and more interested in chatting with each other behind the bar than serving customers.

The food at the restaurant is also vastly overpriced, of average quality, and the menu doesn't change. The restaurant also misses on little "touches" that anywhere else of any calibre would provide as a norm.

Is there anything good to say about this hotel ? Well, the location is good. The rooms are ok, but nothing special, and actually quite dated.

On our way to the hotel from the airport, the taxi driver remarked that the Metcalfe had changed management four times in the last 20 years. I jokingly remarked "I'm not sure if that's a good sign or a bad sign" ... little was I to know my joke was closer to reality than I expected.

Dear Nomadicfood, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your stay at The Metcalfe Hotel. We truly appreciate the opportunity to learn from your experience, and we regret that your visit did not meet your expectations. Regarding the timing of housekeeping, our team strives to ensure that every room is serviced with care and attention to detail. Each housekeeper is assigned 15 or more rooms per day, which includes preparing rooms for arriving guests and servicing rooms for in-house guests. While we understand it can be inconvenient when rooms are cleaned later in the day, our team works tirelessly to assist every guest. Your comments remind us of the importance of maintaining efficiency, and we’ll continue to explore ways to improve this aspect of our service. We’re also sorry to hear that you felt our reception and restaurant teams did not meet your expectations. Our goal is to provide consistently excellent service across all areas, and we’re disappointed to learn this wasn’t your impression. We will use your feedback as a tool for training and development to address these concerns and ensure we offer a more polished experience moving forward. We take your comments about our restaurant seriously as well. We recognize the value of creating memorable dining experiences and regret that the food and service fell short. Your observations will be shared with our Director of Food and Beverages as well as the Front Office Manager so we can focus on areas where improvements are needed. On a positive note, we’re pleased you found our location convenient and appreciated the comfort of our rooms, though we understand they didn’t stand out to you. We hope you might consider staying with us again in the future, as we would welcome the chance to provide you with a more seamless experience. Thank you again for sharing your candid thoughts.

Dear Guest, Navigating your way to The Metcalfe Hotel from the train station offers a few convenient options. One choice is to hop into a taxi or use a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft, which typically takes around 10-15 minutes by car. Alternatively, if you prefer public transportation, you can board the O-train heading West towards Tunney's Pasture. After approximately 5 stops, get off at Parliament station. The fare for an adult is approximately $3.80. I hope I was helpful in answering your questions, please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything else we can assist you with! all the best, The Metcalfe Hotel Talie. M Rooms Supervisor

Hi there, We do welcome pets in our hotel. We discourage leaving them unattended in the hotel, however, if they are not disruptive or disturbing other guests it usually not an issue. We do charge a $75 cleaning fee as an FYI. We look forward to welcoming you and your 4 legged friend to The Metcalfe Hotel!

Answer from SweetD
Markham, Canada66 contributions69 helpful votes
Not all the rooms are suites. We had booked a king room and were put in a small room with a queen bed and no windows. The parking lot is scary and dark and hard to find. It was around $28 CAD per night but I think that we were charged more (taxes?). It is convenient to Parliament Hill and walking distance to many points of interest.
