I had a wonderful time staying at the Holiday Inn Express Sault Ste. Marie. The room was incredibly beautiful and clean. The staff were thoughtful, friendly, and helpful, making my business trip one of ease and comfort. The location is stunning - right by the scenic waterfront, where there are trails, parks, and lots of quiet spaces to read or work. Will definitely be returning next time I'm in town, thank you so much!

We visited the Soo during the pandemic. We chose this hotel because of the price point, amenities and cleaning policy. The room was spacious and clean. It has microwave, coffee maker and mini fridge. Bathroom is also spacious and clean with ample towels. Upon arrival, we found that the room was clean - happy with that! There’s no housekeeping, which we preferred anyway to minimize unnecessary contamination. We just left the garbage bin outside our room which they changed daily. Breakfast to go was minimal stuff but enough to tie up if needed: water bottle, a fruit, yogurt and a carb (muffin and cereal bar on our stays). They also have swimming pool but we didn’t try that. The location is very close to all tourist attractions in town, also across is the mall. The only drawback probably is that you need to pay $5/night for parking. Other than that, we are very happy with this hotel. Probably there are other hotels that are better or comparable, but given what we experienced, we’d gladly stay at this hotel again!

I was in town just to meet my brother, who was meeting me with the remainder of our personal items after moving across the province. He recommended this place as he had been before. Little did I know that when I agreed to it that it was becoming my de facto home for several days. I arrived in the middle of a blizzard and then the highway north out of town was closed the next day. The day after resulted in an another blizzard, and so the plan for one night here turned into three nights. That said I was happy to be here. Sault Ste Marie despite its size and even reputation is a quaint and interesting little city, and this hotel is at a decent location to explore most of it, between the waterfront, the arena and the museums. The staff here was friendly and made my stay as comfortable as possible. I finally left as the roads cleared but I was even a little sad to leave as I had an unexpectedly good time at the hotel and the environs.

My recent stay at the Holiday Inn was a nightmare. We checked into the hotel, and got our two young children and all of our luggage up to our room. An hour into our stay my toddler reaches down to pick up a mouldy, half eaten apple!! Not only was I disgusted that our room was obviously not cleaned properly (especially after the hotel states that they are taking every precaution to ensure our health and safety). But we are also in the middle of a pandemic and that apple was in somebodies mouth! I went straight downstairs to talk to the front desk and they apologized. They offered us to switch rooms but our infant was already sleeping (and I highly doubt any other rooms were cleaned and sanitized up to par either). The only thing that could do is waive the $5 parking fee. This is unacceptable. To find someone’s mouldy food in your supposedly clean and sanitized room is one thing, never mind during a pandemic. Skip this place if you want a clean hotel room. Who knows what you’re going to find when you arrive.

Good morning K6305AXlenad, Please accept our apologies for this oversight with your room. I assure you and your family's safety and security are of the utmost importance to us and this is not a typical occurrence within our housekeeping team which receives high praise from most of our guests. I am so sorry that this was missed and caused you to have such a poor experience. Should your travels bring you back through SSM, I would love the chance to make it right for you and your family. Please contact me to discuss at your convenience of course. Wishing you all the best, Nicholas Brash General Manager nbrash@hiexpresssault.ca 705-759-8200 x 2

I am basing this off of the service alone. Never got to stay because I cancelled due to the service. I booked my hotel on a Wednesday and was going to be staying Saturday night. I actually booked 2 rooms. After booking I called to see how the process with the pool is with the current restrictions in place. They told me that you cannot book a time slot until the day of. I called again on Friday to see about early check in possibility as well as double checked on the pool booking. Was told I couldn't be guaranteed an early check in right now because the room is occupied (which is fine). I then asked again about the pool booking and was told the same thing that I had to call back on Saturday. So Saturday morning I called at 7am and was told that the pool was completely booked all day Saturday already and I could book a time Sunday if I wanted. I explained to the person that I was told differently earlier and the girl said she doesn't know if this rule/procedure. I stated that I only booked the rooms to use the pool. She said sorry I won't be able to use the pool. I asked to speak to a manager and she told me there is no manager on weekends available. I asked what if there is an emergency then what happens. She told me they aren't aloud to call their manager and can only text them and then they will get back if they get a chance or if they think it's worth it. She then told me that she knows how they are and there is no way they will do anything for me. I ended up canceling and going to another local hotel.

Good morning thatguyLJ and thank you for taking the time to write. First off let me apologize for the miscommunication encountered with the pool booking process. During this pandemic we have limited pool access to one hour time slots for the safety and security of our guests. In between each use we have a team member disinfect and clean all the high touch areas to ensure maximum safety. At check in we advise guests of open time slots for the pool during their stay and ask if they would like to reserve. Our operating hours will regrettably not allow for every guest that wants to book a time slot to be able to access the pool at this time. We are truly sorry that we were unable to accommodate you and your family for this most recent booking. Hoping that you consider us again the next time you travels bring you through SSM.

The hotel seems new. Comfortable, modern rooms. The pool was open, which is a nice bonus during the pandemic; the gym and sauna are closed. The kitchen is closed due to Covid so the included breakfast is just a few cold items in a bag. If I returned to Sault Ste Marie after the pandemic I'd definitely stay here again since the complete package would be really good.

We stayed one night at this Pension and we loved it. First of all, there are two free tesla kiosks in the parking lot. Then the welcome was very professional with a game for IHG members to earn points, snack or drink. The room was consistent with the other hotels of the brand own and spacious. The Pension offers a space with washing machine and dryer free of charge by providing soap. Breakfast was really complete and superior to other hotels of the brand with choice. Finally, the swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna are very nice at the end of the day.

We chose this hotel for its location to the Agawa Canyon Train station. It is walkable, probably 20 minutes from the hotel but we chose to drive. We did however walk to the Casino which was easily just a 10 minute walk. The hotel was very clean and the room was comfortable. We had a king bed so there was not a lot of space in the room but we were only there to sleep so it wasn't a problem. The hotel offered a very good self serve buffet breakfast, however, the hours posted were starting at 7 a.m. however, unbeknownst to us, they opened earlier than this time. The staff should have advised us of this when we checked in or they should update their sign. Since we figured we didn't have enough time to eat there on the morning of our train trip, we brought along food to get us through the morning. Needless to say we were very disappointed that the food area opened earlier and we could have had breakfast before our trip. We did enjoy it the next morning and as stated the food was plentiful, lots of variety, and it was very tasty. The staff were friendly and pleasant. I would have given an excellent rating other than the misinformation on the hours for breakfast.

Loved the location first and foremost. A 2 minute walk to the boardwalk and right across the street from the arena. Mall nearby, 15 minute walk to the Agawa Canyon tour station.
My room was huge, modern and super clean. My only complaint was there was no guest manual or stationary but maybe that is not a thing anymore.
Breakfast was included and there were tons of choices: juice, coffee, milk, hot and cold cereals, yogurt, fruit, bread pastries, eggs, bacon sausage and waffles. The fruit selection was a bit limited but I managed to fill up.

Also staying at the same hotel soon and called up to confirm. Yes, the pool is open for guests from 10 am to 10 pm. The only things that are closed are the fitness centre, sauna and hot tub.
