Built in 1845, the historic Inn is now freshly renovated and ready to open. Thomas Edison lived in the building when he was just 16 while working as a telegrapher. Don't worry, though, the Inn has been upgraded embracing a modern, industrial feel while being ultra comfortable and relaxed. Be a guest at Stratford's first truly boutique hotel.

We have just returned from a two day getaway in the charming town of Stratford. This was our first time staying at this charming & historic guestroom. The inn's location is within walking distance to all locations in downtown Stratford. Apparently, Thomas Edison lived in this location in 1832. The inn pays homage to Edisons with various murals and the suite has Edison bulbs in various light fixtures. This has been our best hotel experience ever!

We just got back from a wonderful stay at Edison's Inn. We stayed in the Edison Room which we found to be extremely comfortable and charming. The beds and pillows are comfortable fitted with good quality bedding. The room has two very comfortable leather chairs that are great for reading and/or watching television. The room is well appointed and beautifully decorated. There are books available for reading and three board games for us to enjoy (which we did). There are so many perfect and thoughtful touches in this room. Everything was immaculately clean. Brandon was extremely helpful and made sure our stay was perfect. Kudos to the owners for doing such a beautiful job on this property.

The Music Room was a comfortable, well decorated and engaging room. It's not typical to call a room "engaging," but the books, items and decorations used the theme of music, which made sitting around engaging, and even informative. The room is spacious, with the tall ceiling adding to the ambience. The location is perfect -- right in downtown Stratford, walking distance from the theater venues. Easy check in and out.

When we opened the door with the code we were emailed we found an unmade bed and a room that wasn't ready. This was at 4pm, an hour after check-in. Calls to Bruce, the proprietor went to voice mail . When he called back he was very nonchalant, said he would send someone to make up the room. When I said I needed to shower and get ready for dinner an our play, he did offer the room across the hall to shower and change, which we did, but it was very inconvenient. We were offered no compensation from Bruce . The ladies at the taco shop around the corner and the housekeeper offered us drinks. Bruce needs to go back to hospitality school I have NEVER had such poor customer service without being offered some type of compensation. This guy barely apologized. I have friends in Stratford who know alot of people and are passing on our experience.

Room was beautiful and check in experience was easy. Manager responded quickly to texts re parking. However, if you do go and aren’t interested in staying up half the night, make sure you don’t book the Courtside room as you will be plagued with the swinging door of the Taco place directly behind you slamming and literally shaking the building every time is it used. Also the room is literally a pane of glass away from the deck - loud music and chatter. It is past midnight am i am still waiting for things to quieten down so i can sleep.

Response from bruce whiaker, Owner at Edison's Inn

Hello wwtraveller101, YOUR feedback is very important to me as the owner of the building and hotel. First off, I apologize. Secondly, I have connected with the bar and the taco space to address the issues of music past 11 and access via the side door. Can you please reach out to me regarding the cleanliness. The cleanliness rating is unsatisfactory. Very much appreciated, Bruce

I was visiting friends and for the first time stayed at an INN in Stratford instead of their home due to the pandemic and for extra comfort. It was within walking distance of their place and as an extra bonus is in the heart of Stratford. So easy to get to the shops and restaurants.

I stayed at the Perth and County Inn which is joined with Edison’s and all rooms are on the main floor. Checkin was easy with instructions sent via text first thing in the morning with codes to get in the building and into your personal room. I also received a phone number if for any reason I needed to reach someone.

The room was awesome with a very comfortable bed and all of the necessary amenities. It was super clean. I was travelling alone and had ample room.

I couldn’t figure out the digital device on the wall to turn on some AC for air circulation. Also, I couldn’t find any instructions on the table in the room on how to use the device.

The slight drawback to rooms on the main floor is a little bit of noise during the the wee hours of the morning as guests returned to their rooms upstairs. They were very respectful and very quiet, but it is an older building so you will hear doors and footsteps going up the stairs if you are not used to that and are a light sleeper.

I was very grateful to have parking right outside our door as their are 4 dedicated parking spots for this part of the Inn.

I totally missed the coffee shop and had no idea where it was, or where to find something to eat on the go early the next morning.
Will have to look a little harder the next time.

Overall loved this place and the boutique style of the rooms. Would highly recommend to anyone for their next stay in Stratford.

I recently stayed in the Swan room at Edison Inn, formerly known as the Cafe room, and it was a delightful experience as always. The room is spacious, offering a serene and expansive feel. Its standout feature is the breathtaking river view, where you can gaze out and spot elegant swans gliding by. This picturesque scenery adds an extra layer of tranquility to the stay.
Edison Inn masterfully combines nostalgic decor with modern amenities, creating a unique and comfortable atmosphere. The blend of vintage charm and contemporary features makes every stay memorable.

Location is simply the best! And free parking is just steps away.

Unfortunately, we did not have the best experience staying there. Which seems the be the exception since most reviews are very positive. There was food left from previous guests in the fridge, used washcloth left in the bathroom, the table side lamps in both bedrooms didn’t work, no hair dryer, and no coffee or tea in the room. Our host did manage to drop some coffee off to us, but not until 9pm at night. The stairs leading up to the apartments also have a strong strong smell of a cat litter box. We were really looking forward to our stay here, and left feeling pretty let down.

Love everything about it, so quaint, clean and very beautiful Edison room. FYI..There’s no microwave, there’s a bar fridge, Keurig and kettle. There’s 2 drinking cups and tons of towels. Restaurants are close by in regards to something to eat. The Edison cafe is not open from Sunday-Monday but the most aesthetically appealing Balzac Cafe is just few minutes by walking distance. Free parking, it’s a bit of a walk but I don’t mind. Love everything about it and will be back in the Summer.

A delightful stay at Edison's Inn. The charm and coziness of the space is authentically captured. Your virtual concierge, Bruce, is attentive and helpful. The Cafe room actually attaches to the Cafe, taking in-room coffee to the next level. Sadly, I stayed a night when the cafe wasn't open the next morning (lovely people run the cafe, and they need time with their family. Totally fair). Though other cafes within a few minutes walking when coffee was needed :) Wonderful place. - Review also shared to Google.
