Buckingham House, a bed and breakfast in the heart of Stratford, is a short walk from downtown shops, services, restaurants and the Avon and Studio Theatres. The Festival and Tom Patterson Theatres are within easy walking distance too. The house is Italianate in design, its exterior features include decorative brick details, high windows, overhanging eaves and period wooden bracket trim. There is a downstairs parlour and an upstairs sitting room inside for relaxation and conversation.
Went to Stratford's Shakespeare festival for a three day, three play visit. Shelley's perfect B&B was the ideal place to stay. It is spotless, comfortable, and charming. Breakfasts are scrumptious, and the portions will keep you hunger-free until your early pre-theater dinner. Shelly is a warm and considerate host. Highly recommended.

Headed to Stratford for two sleeps and they were grand at Buckingham House. Comfort, Peace and a nice breakfast both mornings was the perfect getaway. We will be back next year for sure. Thanks Shelley - it was a good respite for us in our most favourite town. You have thoughtful touches and everything was perfect for us. (We went out for the day and when we came back our room was re-made up = a total surprise) AND I got to have a picture taken with the resident Vespa!!!

Stratford for the festival is a pretty special place so we were delighted to couple our theatre experience with a stay in this perfect bed and breakfast. It had everything we needed in a B&B - lovely Victorian home, warm and helpful host and our own bathroom! We were easy walking distance to downtown, one of the theatres and both restaurants we visited. I also spent some down time in the beautiful gardens. There are three bedrooms here - two have internal ensuite while the third (where we stayed) has a private bathroom on it's doorstep. We will request one of the other two in the future but if they're not available we'd happily stay in the third again. This will become our new first choice when we visit.

The Buckingham House in Stratford, Ontario, deserves more than five stars. The B&B has three lovely guestrooms on the second floor of a historic home. There is also a common room and a small balcony overlooking the garden on the second floor. Everything is very clean and perfectly decorated with antique furniture. We had the room with the private bathroom across the hall with a bathtub/shower combination. We loved this room which was a bit small, but we found good places to put our large suitcases without a problem. The other two rooms have ensuite bathrooms. The driveway has three parking spaces which allow free parking for each room. The garden is beautiful with lovely flowers and a comfortable seating area. Breakfast was truly amazing. It was freshly prepared and beautifully presented . There were fresh baked goods and fruit every day along with a prepared entrée of eggs, quiche, pancakes or other amazing food. We have stayed at many B&B's, but this was the most beautiful breakfast I have ever been served. Location is also excellent. It is a short walk to the Avon and Studio theaters and the many downtown restaurants. It is a bit longer walk to the Festival theater, but we had no problem walking there several times. Kudos to Shelly, who is a remarkable hostess. The stay could not have been better!…

Shelly's home and gardens are beautiful! You can enjoy reading a book surrounded by lovely gardens, take a quiet moment on an upstairs porch, enjoy a delicious and generous breakfast, have great conversations with Shelly (ask about monarch butterflies, fascinating!), and stay in a spacious room and with a very comfortable bed. An added bonus was that we only had short walks to the theatres, and restaurants. We will definitely return to stay with Shelly!

Though there were no recent reviews, I decided to trust the older ones and make a booking here for my three day, four play visit in July 2018. Buckingham House B&B and hostess Shelly could not have been more ideal for this. The location is great, just a block or two from downtown and the two theatres there - the room was comfortable and so were the lounges and garden for relaxing. Breakfasts were varied, served with care [and ingredients from the garden], and large enough that I could skip lunch. I appreciated the little fridge in the upstairs lounge where I kept my choice of Ontario wine. The cat greeted me just before breakfast on two mornings.... very comforting for this cat person. I know where I will stay when I next visit Stratford if there is availability. Les D.

Highly recommend this B&B for great breakfasts, classy accommodation, helpful host and beautiful garden. Not to mention the cat, Cleo. Very convenient for theaters, restaurants and shops. Thanks Shelly.

My husband and I stayed with Shelly at her lovely B&B last week while enjoying a week of theater at the Stratford festival. We couldn't have chosen a better place. Perfectly situated about a 10 minute walk from downtown and the Avon/Studio Theaters and a 15 minute walk from the Paterson and Festival theaters, the location can't be beat. Shelly has been the innkeeper at Buckingham Place for about 7 years and she is the consummate host. From her welcome as we walked through the door, to the tour of the house and our room she was there to provide a history of the home and answer all of our questions. She keeps a small frig upstairs to stash nibbles and beverages and a lovely little sitting room to enjoy them in. The breakfasts are superb; fresh fruit and baked goods every day, quiche, tortilla and waffles rounded out our choices during our stay. Shelly tends an exquisite garden out back and on the side of the house and her tomato salads at breakfast are mouthwatering. A perfect place to put your feet up and catch up on your reading before heading to a play. Room tip; don't be put off with one of the rooms having a generous bathroom with tub across a 4 foot hall. It is totally convenient and no problem at all. It's the largest bathroom across all three rooms. Alas, Shelly was booked for the week we wanted next year. We'll have to try in 2019!…

We stayed here for three nights so we could see a few plays. Our experience was wonderful. The home is furnished traditionally and Shelly makes you feel very welcome. We had the room at the back with a king bed and it's own little spotless bath tucked in behind a wall. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. There is an upstairs guest sitting area with a tv and lots of books to read and a larger living room on the main floor as well as free wifi. Our breakfasts were delicious and varied with some fresh from the garden items. Shelly is a great cook! We would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

I only stayed at Buckingham House for a day but I can highly recommend it and the host Shelly. Shelly was very accommodating as I had both an early arrival, about noon, (taking in a matinee at the Shakespeare Festival Theatre), and a later departure the next day. The breakfast was superb; the rooms nicely set up and attractive. There was a sitting room upstairs for the occupants of the three rooms to gather and chat. A parlour was located downstairs as well. Most important, though, for any B n B is the host. Shelly was friendly, helpful, and charming. This house is also located within easy walking distance of downtown Stratford. The main theatre is about a 20 minute walk away. Others are closer. Buckingham House is a genuine modest treasure.
