We decided to head up to Stratford to spend a night for our 39th anniversary at Fosters Inn with the “Hike and stay” package. The room while not ‘fancy’ was large, very clean, quiet and very comfortable. The main reason for us to stay here is the absolutely fantastic restaurant . We enjoyed 2 tenderloin steak dinners that were fabulous! Perfect medium cooked. Attentive service by our waiter. In the morning we enjoyed an excellent breakfast, eggs benny with Black Forest ham and a superb ham & cheese omelette. Second time we have eaten here and both times have been perfect. Highly recommend this place for any occasion.

First the good…friendly staff, very clean (though furniture is “tired”), and nice location.
The bad….The heating system is a joke. Rooms are very cold regardless of what temp the heat is set to and the fans sound like an 18-wheeler is idling in the room. And it wasn’t just our room; another room was the same. Also, the hallways smell of smoke and with a 1 inch gap under the hotel room door, that smell (and sound too) gets in your room.

Overall just okay but wouldn’t repeat.

We just returned from what is hopefully the first of many visits to Stratford Ontario. Please go, book a room at Foster's Inn and dine there as well, and go to see "Something Rotten!". The play is immensely entertaining, one of the best we have seen - ever. Foster's Inn offers a great location, nice room accommodations, very good food (we enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner) and exceptionally friendly staff. We highly recommend Foster's Inn.

Watch out!. I made a reservation to stay overnight here. They charged my credit card immediately for the first night. Their policy, if you cancel the reservation in a timely manner, is to refund the charge. I requested the cancellation by email. They never responded to my request for an acknowledgement of the cancellation. I emailed several times asking for an acknowledgement. I didn't receive it, nor did they refund the charge. I'm disputing the charge with the credit card company

Thanks to the popularity of the Shakespeare Festival, Stratford has a wealth of great hotels. In another city, Foster's might make the list of best hotels. But in Stratford, it can't live up to the competition.

I stayed at Foster's for three nights in August 2009. My room was large and clean, with a high ceiling and a clean bathroom. The downstairs restaurant is a convenient place to grab a meal, and the hotel offers free wireless Internet access. Check-in was speedy, and I was pleased to find that the building has an elevator (a rarity among downtown Stratford hotels).

The only problem I encountered was noise, both from the street outside and from the restaurant below. It wasn't excessively loud, but it did continue until about 2 a.m.

Overall, though, Foster's is a nice place to stay. If you choose it, you'll likely have a pleasant experience. That said, there are other hotels in Stratford that I like much better, such as the Mercer Hall Inn (above Tango) and Bentley's Lofts at 99.

We stayed here over the Labor Day weekend, and I have to say that this was the noisiest place I've ever stayed at. Our room was on the floor directly above the bar area, which has music piped to the outside street area. The music starts every morning around 10 AM, and on our first night continued quite loudly until nearly 2 AM, at which point I went down into the restaurant area and found someone to turn it off (mind you, the restaurant and bar were closed, and only the night cleaning crew was there). The next night, the music was on until at least 1 AM, with a loud group of people hanging out in the patio area...luckily I'd had the forsight to go buy earplugs at the drugstore so I could actually sleep! The room itself was nice, the employees were extremely responsive when asked a question, the owner seemed genuinely concerned. But for the price, definitely look elsewhere (unless you're one of the 2 AM theater rowdies!).

Location right in town next to Avon. Easy walk to Tom Patterson and pleasant walk to Festival Theater. Large, comfortable ,clean rooms. This time we stayed facing rear and it was very quiet, street facing rooms can be a little noisy with post theater crowds, for the short time that lasts. Comfortable beds, crisp linens and large, modern clean bathrooms. Did I say nice large modern rooms? Great restaurant and bar on first floor. We'll be back for theater season next year.

Over the years, while visiting the Stratford festival, I have frequented this restaurant many times. The overall experience at your restaurant has been outstanding, from the ambience, food and decor. However, tonight while visiting the restaurant the hostess was blatantly rude and insulting.

Our family had booked a reservation, under the assumption that it would be honoured. Due to some complications there was no tables available for us. I personally understand that "things happen", and this is life. After expressing some frustration, due to the fact that it was Saturday night at 6:30pm, at the height of the festival season, with our show at 8pm, AND most of the restaurants in town being full, your hostess decided to tell us that we were, for all purpose terms, SOL. She then proceeded to involve other employees while pointing at my mother calling her "the angry woman".

I understand that people have bad days and become overwhelmed or frustrated. Yet, I don't understand how someone can be so blatantly rude and insulting by speaking about a customer in such a manor, in front of them! Not to mention that her overall demeanour was unhelpful, condescending, and irritated, to say the least. I was honestly shocked and astounded. I have never been treated so poorly in my entire life.

The only reason I would ever return to this restaurant was the server we did have tonight. I did not catch her name but all I know is that she was wearing glasses, and had a pin up tattoo on her right forearm. She was an amazing server, who did seem to know the definition of customer service. I hope that she does get some recognition, which she deserves.

I hope that the next guest who frequents this restaurant will be met with more professionalism and respect.

I had eaten several times at Fosters and generally my experience was very good. Having stayed at other hotels that are farther out of town was a bit tiresome, I decided that something in town that was in close walking distance to the theaters would be better. The location of this hotel is perfect, and having such a good restaurant downstairs (and in fact several all along that stretch of road) is very convenient. It's also nice to be off hwy 7/8 (Ontario St) as this road is always very very busy as it is a major route for people heading to/from London or to the coast.

There is a large, free parking lot one block south, on the SW corner. There is an elevator, so you don't have to worry about dragging your luggage up a flight of stairs. The rooms were clean, comfortable and after a day full of walking, play watching and wine drinking - just perfect. We did not encounter any noise from the restaurant downstairs as some people have mentioned, and my companion is a very light sleeper. Breakfast in the restaurant is very good.

There are only a few rooms available, so be sure to book ahead. The room with two double beds faces the rear of the building, but you do not get any noise from the road.

I would definitely stay here again.

Didn't stay in hotel but did eat twice in restaurant and all I can say is big waste of money. Had beef tenderloin - end cut cooked like a piece of burnt roast beef. Had chicken pate that was the consistency of slop. " new assistant in kitchen - hadn't let the terrine cool in fridge" My response "why would you serve it to a customer". The steak "only piece we had left". Offered a free desert - the meal should have been taken away and certainly I shouldn't have been charged for it. Never ever would eat here again but unfortunately was back in May 2011 and decided to try breakfast. Eggs Benedict. Hardboiled eggs with a teaspoon (if that) of Hollandaise served with cheap greens, the peameal bacon was so over grilled it was dry as shoe leather. Much much better breakfast to be had in Stratford.

Would only go back to sit on patio in sun for a drink.
