I didn't check the calendar and arrived during Blues Fest. My usual go to budget motels were full up. The Kingsway had a couple of double rooms with two beds left. The rooms are clean but nothing more than basic. The TV didn't work and the front desk didn't seem to know how to fix that problem. I gave up trying to log in to the internet. The temperature dropped to 11 C Friday night so the lack of an air conditioner wasn't a problem. Only the back window opens so there isn't much chance for a cross draft. The Kingsway is OK but significantly more expensive that some of the well reviewed budget motels on Cumberland.

Stopped here for one night on the way through Thunder Bay. It's close to the highway and several restaurants. Room was clean and decent enough. Newer tv and wifi worked great. A decent hotel for a short stay. Only downfall was the thin walls as the person next door was quite the snorer.

I didn't know what to expect when the agency that I work for booked me in here . I had a 6 week stay .
My room was small but clean and comfortable .
The room is equipped with a microwave, small sized refrigerator and a large flat screen TV.
The manager is very nice and very helpful .
The walls are thin - so if you have a noisy neighbour , wear earplugs . I only had this problem for a few nights . Most of the time my neighbours were quiet .
The cleaning staff are friendly and efficient .
For a budget motel , this is good value .

Pre-pandemic this was an acceptable basic pet friendly motel run by pleasant people. Today (July 2022) the only thing that remains the same is that it is pet friendly, for a fee. The new owners appear to want to take out as much money for as little going in. As such it is not clean; my bathroom floor was sticky and the bathroom window, the only one that opened, was greasy. Despite the no smoking signs (does that reduce insurance?) smoking is permitted in the doorways and the furniture is cigarette burned from earlier days. I complained about my room but could not change because they were fully booked. Yet for 25 rooms, when I took my dog for an early morning walk, there were only 14 cars in the parking lot. Judging from some of the other guests I saw, I suspect the new owners are paid by the city to provide accommodation for homeless people. Hence the rooms were full but not the parking lot. These residents are not going to complain about condition; the city has "solved" a problem and will not upset the apple cart by inspecting, and the owners have a steady easy cash stream without needing to please guests. No coffee maker; no clock, no toiletries; an electric wiring nightmare. Even in the budget category, over priced for what they offer.

Stayed here for a single night with my cat while travelling across the country. When I arrived I thought it was closed as all the lights were off and door locked - so be weary if you plan to arrive late. The room was dirty and outdated. I had sunflower seeds all over my floor and someone else's food in my fridge. The bed was hard and not comfortable. It was also very small.

It was cheap though so I didn't expect to much. I think it's fine to stay here if you need a cheap place to rest your head for the night but it wouldn't be my first choice in Thunder Bay.

The manager has no customer service skills...the room was supposed to be a kitchenette but all it has was a fridge, toaster, crappy coffee maker & a hot plate with only one element working. There was basically no dishes, glasses or utensils. Then the manager had the nerve to tell me that there would be a $100 service charge if there were any dirty dishes when we checked out! The room was supposed to be non-smoking but it stunk like it was a party room. It smelled like booze & cigarettes and there were cigarette burns on the rug. The switches on the lamps were broken off and the mattresses were dirty & stained! It also appeared that there were people living there and not the best crowd of people either. Didn't feel safe at all! We felt ill the next morning & quickly checked out & got our money back. The people in the room beside us also checked out & went to another motel. DON'T STAY HERE!!! Unless you want to have a wild party!! ;)

I hate giving out bad reviews but I feel people must know the truth. Why this place would get a good review is beyond me? There is a reason this place ranks so low. It is a terrible place to stay. Seems like the manager does not like his job; very aggressive, unfriendly and gave me a higher quote at check in than when I called earlier. I was tired so I just took the room anyway. It was supposed to be a kitchenette but there wasn’t much of kitchen, no pots or pans or utensils and an old rusty hotplate. Carpets were stained, the floor creaked, the shower did not work (either hot or cold) and the room was cold. I could go on and on but just believe me, this place will not see me again.

The only reason we stayed at this dump is that it was the only motel that we could find that allowed pets. The bathrooms were dirty. The carpets were so filthy that your socks stuck to them. The owner/manager kept peeking in the windows. The room was tiny to boot. Avoid at all costs.

By far the worst motel I have ever stayed in as it was unclean and unfit to be sold. The walls are paper thin, I could here the people from both rooms around me all night. When I had issues with the room the manager actually yelled at me and argued with me and refused to give me my money back when I did not want to stay in room! You can stay anywhere else in town for the same price, I wouldn't stay here again even if it was free.
