This is a beautiful looking hotel. However ... the floors in our room felt sticky. I was feeling around the tv for the controls and parts of it were gooey and sticky. One of the small lamps was also gooey. Some black mould in bathroom. Very nice looking but the cleaners need to do a better job.

This is a really nice freshly renovated accommodation. This was according to the friendly staff that were welcoming our arrival. They are very knowledgeable of the area, and the accommodation is a really comfortable. They are some really interesting type of accommodation on the main floor. For people with disabilities, or ones that may have some issues with navigating steps, may want to try the upper floors of the hotel, as there are stairs on all of the main floor. This accommodation is very convenient, and is especially convenient for those that may need to use the Thunder Bay Airport, as it is right next door. This would be a great accommodation for conferences, and other events. Very close to everywhere in Thunder Bay, and close to downtown, and some nearby parks like Sleeping Giant, Kakabecka Falls, and other ones. We will likely be back to this accommodation in the future! Thanks for your hospitality!

Picked this hotel for the proximity to the airport and the pool. Booked weeks in advance, we arrived at the hotel only to be told they had given our room away and had nothing to offer in its place so they would be transferring us to a new hotel at their expense. They couldn’t transfer us to a similar quality hotel with the same amenities because that was “too expensive” so we ended up at a terrible best western down the road that had no amenities, no pool or anything. We wanted the pool to entertain us for the night while we waited to pick up our rental car the following morning. Ruined the first day of our trip. Very disappointed and will not choose this hotel in future.

Service at the restaurant was great. Joe, John, and Andy were on point. The menu is limited but the quality is great. Music was great to accompany the good food and service. Need some more red wine selections by the glass. Rooms are very nice, newly renovated clean and classy.

We have stayed here several times over the years, this time was probably the best thus far. Nice to see they have renovated some rooms now. After our last visit I wasn’t prepared to return but did this time for convenience sake and was pleasantly surprised! Our room on 2nd floor was more modern and clean than other previous rooms. Beds were very comfortable, bathroom small but ok for one person one night. Shout out to the front desk employees, super friendly and helpful… because of the good customer service received, plus knowing I can get a decent room now, will entice me to book my next stay here again. Only complaint I have is some attention needs to be given to cleaning the staircase and hallways… a vacuum and floor mop is badly needed. Restaurant onsite is cozy, prices are high for what you get, but food was very good. Overall a great stay!

Stayed at the Valhalla on Easter long weekend. We booked directly with the hotel, as they say on their website that they offer the best rates. NOT TRUE. Three nights through them was $600 including taxes. This is not a $200/night hotel for sure. Found it on Priceline for $92/night. We called the hotel and they reduced our total to $433 including all taxes. Hot tub wasn't working. Our room was clean but the bedside lights didn't work so they moved us. The heat and fan were impossible to control. The fan blew cold air seemingly spontaneously, even when we set the thermostat to 22C! Couldn't win-either too hot or freezing air blowing. -Front desk staff were polite. -Had a lot of empty unused space. Could've really used a 2nd chair/arm chair maybe with a little table. -Parking lot poorly lit. -Walls paper thin.

We have stayed here on several occasions and as always the rooms are immaculate. Check in is quick and the front desk staff polite, informative and friendly. Lots of parking and new to the hotel are charging stations for EV’s. The in house restaurant serves amazing food and here too the staff compliments your dining with efficient service and their friendly manner. Always a pleasant experience staying here when we visit Thunder Bay.

I fondly remember the iconic Valhalla Inn in Toronto, it featured wonderful design with a nordic flair and great restaurant. Unfortunately the hotel is gone replaced by a generic condo. With my memory of the old Valhalla i had high expectations for the Thunder Bay hotel. It too had a Nordic look. The lobby was basic but a sign did indicate they were doing a refresh. The room was large and very clean with a wood engineered floor and nice furniture. Well lit bathroom but with a tub not shower stall. The towels were clearly washed too many times and the linen rough. Very basic toiletries were provided. Surprising the room rate did not include daily housekeeping. We were told It was every three days or on request. There was no mention of this when we checked in. I had to call reception to get some clean towels. There was an indoor poor which we did not try. Reception told me there is new hotel management, it appears they are trying to cut costs at the expense of basic hotel service.

Although currently upgrading the facilities the front desk, the room and the service were excellent. WiFi, parking and TV were fine. Had dinner in the resturant and although the menu was limited and no draft beer was available the actual meals were fine. Pool and sauna were available.

We always book a room at the Valhalla Inn on our way through Thunder Bay, and usually look forward to staying. Unfortunately, this trip was a disappointment and will likely be our last. We stayed in a king studio drive up. Soon after arriving and settling in we found that a light in the suite wasn't working, and the sliding door from the suite to the parking lot was broken (both the latch and the charlie bar), apparently the result of a recent break-and-enter. We returned to the front desk and were offered a different room. The new room reeked of cigarette smoke and so we returned to the front desk again and indicated we could stay in the original room if someone would fix the door. A very plesant maintenance worker was in and out of the room a few times and ultimately secured the door with a broom stick. When we approached the front desk to request compensation for the poor room condition and disruption to our evening we were informed no compensation was possible as we had booked our trip with Expedia. Furthermore, the front desk employee was curt and unapologetic for the inconvenience. When we travel we opt to pay a little more to feel safe, comfortable and welcome. The Valhalla failed to meet these expectations and next time through the city we plan to explore the Best Western Plus Norwester.
