Room was in decent shape, some chips and dings here and there but overall excellent for it's price.
Had my cat on the trip, and our pet friendly room didn't have any lingering smells or evidence there had been other pets in the room.
The room service (pick up food from the restaurant within the hotel) food left a lot to be desired. Had a Chicken Cordon Bleu, which wasn't much more than a store bought frozen chicken breast with a rubbery, tasteless, cheese thrown on top of it. There is a grocery store right across the street, that I'd just pick up a microwavable meal next time for less than half the price.
Would return.

5 Star Performance to the team at Valhalla Inn. We recently had a group booking at the Valhalla Inn and everyone was so pleasant and helpful. Thank you to all the staff at Valhalla Inn.
It did not matter who it was that we spoke to (housekeeping, servers, front desk staff), all were equally pleasant to deal with.

First, we traveled during the COVID pandemic, so that has some bearing on this review. Overall the hotel was fine. Nothing special, but clean.
We found the beds very hard, and woke up sore each day, but for me the glaring issue was the lack of services available. We paid full rate for our hotel room, however we did not receive any housekeeping services in our 3 night stay. We could request a fresh towel, but no one came in to clean or tidy or even empty the garbage. The menus were all paired down significantly, an there was a skeleton staff in the restaurants. We ere traveling for a family wedding, and even with a reservation there was one waiter available to help our table of 11 plus the other 7-8 tables in the rest of the restaurant in the lounge. He did his best, but it was an impossible task. Also, again due to staffing restrictions, there was no food or drink available in the hotel between 11am and 5pm. The little starbucks/self serve area was closed, and the hotel opted to close all restaurants between 11 and 5. One of our party also had a coke bottle with a cigarette left in it in her room - which made us question the COVID friendly cleaning the hotel was promoting.
On their own, the issues were relatively minor, but when they all occurred during the one stay, it soured this review.

I have stayed at this hotel during several visits and had great experiences. Anytime we have crews of workers in Thunder Bay they always ask to stay at Valhalla Inn (that is a good sign). It is also nice and close to the airport.

We always book a room at the Valhalla Inn on our way through Thunder Bay, and usually look forward to staying. Unfortunately, this trip was a disappointment and will likely be our last.

We stayed in a king studio drive up. Soon after arriving and settling in we found that a light in the suite wasn't working, and the sliding door from the suite to the parking lot was broken (both the latch and the charlie bar), apparently the result of a recent break-and-enter. We returned to the front desk and were offered a different room. The new room reeked of cigarette smoke and so we returned to the front desk again and indicated we could stay in the original room if someone would fix the door. A very plesant maintenance worker was in and out of the room a few times and ultimately secured the door with a broom stick. When we approached the front desk to request compensation for the poor room condition and disruption to our evening we were informed no compensation was possible as we had booked our trip with Expedia. Furthermore, the front desk employee was curt and unapologetic for the inconvenience.

When we travel we opt to pay a little more to feel safe, comfortable and welcome. The Valhalla failed to meet these expectations and next time through the city we plan to explore the Best Western Plus Norwester.

Our room was filthy. Curtain for patio smoke stained and dirty. Hair and sand around the bed in the frame . Hair in the shower and used shampoo on the counter. Huge stain the the duvet . Personal belongings from previous guest left in room . Kept our shoes on as the floors were very sandy and looked unswept.
Returned items from preivous guest and the front desk did nothing not even offer us a different room or a discount. We had to pay full price for a dumpy room.

My husband and I stayed at the Valhalla for the very first time this past week. I remember it being there for years! The Hotel is a bit dated but it has character as opposed to your standard cookie cutter places.

We really liked our room. We could park directly in front of it and there was a large area as you walk in that contained a couch, desk and a bar fridge. It'd be a great play area for kids after a day stuck in the car.

The room is split level and the top level contains the sleeping area and television.

The staff at the front desk were very friendly. As we were leaving the next morning a man who was checking out had lost his mask and the Hotel provided him with a new one for his travels.

The dining room was open but we're still not comfortable 'dining-in' during the Pandemic so we went for a walk and there are tons of eating spots close by including numerous Chinese restaurants and a Greek one. There's also a fruit and vegetable stand where we bought some delicious pluots for the trip in the car the next day.

We enjoyed our stay. The room was quiet. Internet worked well. We paid $118 all in which I consider good value.

The Valhalla Inn is always an old faithful when it comes to overnight accommodation in Thunder Bay. The greatest advantage to the Valhalla is its proximity to the Thunder Bay Airport. The shuttle runs constantly on the half hour and is very reliable. My only observation is that the interior design is dated. The lobby and interior is quite dark in design. It could use some brightening up to bring a feeling of joy to travellers and visitors alike. The old wood design is just very dark, particularly in the long stretch of the short days of winter in the region. The bed mattresses are not that plush either. The restaurant and lounge are excellent, be sure to check on hours of service.

Stayed with my family at this hotel for medical reasons. The Manager would not allow us to use our meal vouchers issued by IRS, unless it was for one meal at a time (breakfast, lunch, supper). Manager advised that we had to eat at specific times for meals and not to combined the vouchers. This was an issue because everything on menu was above the amount. This hotel Manager was unwilling to be flexible as the Victoria Inn that does allowed combining meal vouchers. This was highly inconvenient, as meals had to be designated times, and with being diabetic, as I shared was Manager fell on deaf ears.
Needless to say, I found a curly hair in my breakfast. We checked out early as a result of lack of concern and follow up with our issue of eating times and combining meals. Manager also briefed his kitchen staff of strict policy.
Heading back to Victoria Inn as a result where they are accommodating and understanding of health needs of diabetes.

Housekeeping knocked at 9:30am, which not only woke me and my friend from a wonderful sleep but it scared us because we thought it was a prank. Being on the first floor was more unnerving. We were confused, annoyed, and angered. They knocked AGAIN at 10:20am, again startling us, when check out is 11am. Housekeeping should have never touched the room until 11am. I am extreme my dissatisfied with that experience.

Good afternoon, our hotel does have accessible rooms. Each room is equipped with a raised toilet, grab bars, detachable hand held shower and shower seat. We can also provide a transfer bench if needed. The showers are tubs and are not wheel in.
