We booked this hotel for a scuba diving trip to Thunder Bay for September long weekend mostly because we could book a large room for multiple people, there was a restaurant in the hotel and there was a pool and hot tub for relaxing in the evening.

I would like to start out with the good news. The one bed that was not broken, was extremely comfortable and I had a fantastic sleep.

We received notice just before our trip that the hotel pool would be closed. We decided to proceed with our plans anyway. When we arrived at the hotel, we were given vouchers for a free breakfast at the hotel restaurant for our inconvenience. We thought that was reasonable.

The carpets in the hallway leading to the room looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a few days. When we arrived at our room, the door was open and it looked like the room hadn't been cleaned. We notified the front desk and one of our party went down to the front desk to get clean towels and shampoo and soap.

After settling in, we were sitting on one of the couches and I looked over to a friend sitting beside me and saw what looked like a syringe in the space between the cushion and the couch. We pulled out the cushion and found that it was a Tylenol dosing syringe, but this caused quite the commotion and there was much more garbage in behind the cushions. I don't think these couches had been vacuumed for some time. It's a good thing we didn't end up needing the pull-out couch for someone to sleep as I am sure this would have been the final straw (syringe) to send us to another hotel.

There was garbage under the beds and one of the beds had a broken center support which meant that the two sleeping in that bed needed to turn around with their heads at the foot of the bed to get a decent sleep as sleeping the usual way would have put their heads lower than their feet. The rest of the bedding seemed a reasonable quality except for the fitted sheet which didn't fit the king size beds and you could see the half of the mattress underneath from the side and the sheet would often come free from the beds at the corners.

The ice machine closest to our room was not working so we had to hunt for another one.

When we arrived in the lobby the next morning for breakfast, we found the restaurant closed. We had to go elsewhere. We later found out that the vouchers were no good to us as the restaurant would not be open at any time during the long weekend.

Sunday evening we arrived to our cards not working in the entry door closest to our room (at the opposite end of the hotel from the front desk) and had to send someone to the front to get new keys.

We left Monday morning. The breakfast vouchers will still unable to be used as the restaurant remained closed.

I have stayed in Ramada's in the past and have come to expect a certain level of quality. This was a HUGE disappointment. I will never think of the Ramada chain the same again.

This motel is the worst in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Believe the negative reviews. Any recent positive reviews are fake. It's a downright shame that Ramada and Wyndham have their names associated with this decrepit motel. My husband and I stayed at this motel on August 14, 2021, and unfortunately, due to the forest fires in Northern Ontario, other motels in Thunder Bay are fully booked with evacuees. Check-in was okay since we were the only ones in the lobby .There is no elevator at this motel so my husband had to lug my suitcase up the flight of stairs to the 2nd floor room that was assigned to us. Once inside the 2nd floor room, we both wanted to take a shower before we went out to get a bite to eat but there were no towels. My husband phoned down to the front desk requesting the missing towels which were brought up about 20 minutes later. A few things that were also missing were face clothes (which I needed to clean my gas permeable contact lens), a remote for the TV, and an extra roll of toilet paper (1 small roll was provided initially in the bathroom). I went down to the front desk to request these missing items and after 45 minutes of waiting, my husband then went down to the front desk to request them. All in all, over an hour was wasted just waiting for missing items that should have been already in the room. The last straw was when we took a shower, the tub filled up with water past our ankles and wouldn't drain. Probably the tub has never been unclogged.. I agree with the other negative reviews - this place is a dump for the price that is paid for a room which smelled musty and looked dirty..

We were on our way home, needed a place that accepted dogs and this was the only hotel left that did. Looking at the pics online we thought it looked great. Pictures are deceiving. The first room we went to was awful. The hide a bed was broken. The bed looked like it had been used as did the towels in the washroom. Went back to see if we could get a clean room(there was nothing else available for us in Thunder Bay). The girl at the front was very kind and did move us. The second room was better, but only one towel in the washroom. Complimentary shampoo bottle was left with a very tiny amount in it. No kleenex. One roll of toilet paper. Lamps in the room were 25 watt. Do not be fooled by the pictures. I cannot believe Ramada/ Wyndham want their name tagged to this hotel. It was awful.

The staff were very kind and welcoming. They did their best to help my family and accommodate us. It was frustrating that their restaurant is closed on weekends as it was one of the reasons we chose it, to have easy access to breakfast etc. The pool was also closed which was very disappointing. They have a very flexible check out time as we were waiting for highways to be cleared in order to make our journey home. They should have honoured the price I paid night 1 on night 2 regardless of booking method. But I’m still so glad we stayed there. It’s not a new hotel and could use some updates and repairs but it was safe and warm and comfortable, friendly and affordable. We felt welcome. Thank you.

The rate stated was not the price. I ended up paying more than a $170 for a room that was old with no amenities. The was a 15.99 service fee plus taxes which I was led to believe was included in the $125 price. Don’t book Wyndham hotels unless you ask all the right questions.

Room Tip: Ask what the service fees and taxes are. Booking service through Wyndham is misleading.

We booked by mistake, we normally avoid this type of hotel with deplorable reviews... This hotel is abandoned. If you like experiences to go back in time! This is the place, a little 40 years back just as you enter the lobby. After our mistake, we took the time to call to make sure our room would be clean. This was the case. Now, if you want to get depressed for a little 24 hours, don't hesitate! $200 for the night is slightly excessive for the comfort offered. The sports club smells of mold with a fan on full blast, the swimming pool will in my opinion be under renovation for around fifteen years. A complete renovation is required. Only the employee who tried to remain calm was professional.

Not the usual quality for a Wyndham hotel. Very disappointed. Building is an old motel. Entrance and reception area were redecorated quite nicely though. Room was small, shower curtain was filthy, one of the shampoo canisters in the shower stall was missing, was only given one set of towels for two people. There was something on the wall covered in a facecloth, did not dare look underneath the face cloth, peep hole in door was replaced with cardboard, carpet old and stained, dated decor, phone in room did not work, no fridge in room, no breakfast, no elevator. Restaurant in hotel was not open and desk staff was not very helpful in finding a restaurant near by. When we reserved the room we specified that we were looking for a hotel with restaurant inside the hotel they did not mention that the restaurant would be closed. Drunk young man in front foyer of hotel swearing loudly into cell phone for quite some time but hotel staff was not trying to deal with him at all. Would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.

This motel should not be open. It is absolutely unworthy of hosting guests. It appears that most of the property is inoperable. There is garbage strewn all over the external property. The rooms are extremely dated and do not have any air circulation whatsoever. The thermostat was smashed and inoperable. The only ventilation came from opening an ancient window which subjected you to the noise of aircraft flying over. The ice machine was inoperable.

Worst place I’ve ever stayed. Rooms were deteriorating, bathroom tile and ceiling were stained and mildewed, long hallways were dark, narrow, and musty smelling. No elevator so we lugged our bags up the cement stairs. The whole place was seedy and dirty. Ramada should be ashamed to have their name associated with this property.

I was unaware at the time of booking that this hotel is under renovation. The lobby looks fantastic!, beyond that, the rest of the place definitely needs to be renovated. No screens on the window so if you want fresh air you might gets bugs coming in.

There appears to be a problem with housekeeping. Towels left on the floor in the hallway. The manager was talking to someone in the room across the hall and didn’t bother to stop and pick them up on his way back to the front desk.

Our room only had 1 bath towel, had to go and request a 2nd and was asked if I wanted now or in the morning.

The dining room recently reopened for dinner, we had an average meal from their very limited menu. Staff were pleasant.

So as my husband often says when disappointed “well we been there twice, first and last”, never again”
