We stayed here because of the mountain biking, which was amazing. The campground needs some work. The sites are muddy and not level. The shower/bathrooms are very dated and not maintained. This could be an amazing campground if the city put some money into it.

Campgrounds are interesting societal microcosms, and 'Trowbridge' is a great example.

The losers stand out, -with their rudeness/ intrusiveness/ disregard for others. The good folks don't get noticed- 'cause good folks tend to lay low and mind their own business, ...until they snap on the losers. (My advice on this is to approach the good folks early, before trouble starts, -and stand up to the morons together, as a large group. Shame them. -It usually works; if it doesn't, call the police EARLY. Don't give 'em twenty-two chances.)
The folks running the show- (owners/city) -put in minimal effort and expect praise, profit, and claps-on-the-back in return. And yes, as many have said- the showers are often a horror show.

Overall, a great place for a social experiment, -not always the best place to peacefully chill out. Perhaps that will change with the rumored "new owners" arriving in 2012. We'll see.

The main bridge has been out of service (for loosely explained reasons) for over a year (as I write this). The city has expressed plans to "examine options" in 2012. (Keep in mind that the entire park is "closed" throughout the summer of 2011...wouldn't that be a good time for construction and repair? ...Guess not. More proof, in my view, that the city doesn't really give much of a damn about the place.

In all honesty, I've had good and peaceful moments at Trowbridge, and it's quite possible that you will too (if you choose to go); at the same time however, with SO many shortcomings, -it doesn't deserve a good review at all.

This place has a lot of potential, and the city is making some improvements like adding 30 amp sites with water. Shower houses are in need of updating as well. The 20 amp electric that is on many sites is configured oddly so be prepared to get an extension.

Now for the good. Abundant boreal shade with lots of trails even going into city, Nice cascades that are good for wading. Campsites are well spaced. Only minimal noise from TCH. Close enough to all necessities.

I'd park my RV here again.

This past weekend on Saturday, June 20th, 2009 - some friends and I decided to go rent a site at our local Trowbridge Falls camp ground, as we usually do numerous times each summer. Unfortunately instead of being a great time as we usually have, we were viciously, and completely unreasonably kicked out of the camp grounds, after only being there for three hours (8:00pm - 11:00pm) without so much as an explination as to why, just horrendous allegations, and us being screamed and cursed at by the two women who own it!

The minute 11:00pm rolled around we were greeted by a car honking at us, and then one of these women standing there and screaming obscenities at the top of her lungs at us to get out! Everytime we tried reasonably to ask for a reason why we were being kicked out, we got ridiculous allegations, one of such being that every person on the sight was underage. Even after we offered to line up and show these women our I.D.'s they just refused and continued to scream at us threatening to call the police on us. The worst part about all of this is that they forced us to leave after we had been drinking!

I would completely understand this ambush attack if we had been causing a disturbance, and had been unruly and drunk, but completely the opposite was happening. As outlined on the conditions of our receipt, (which we still have) there were only two tents on the sight, one car, and four people planning to stay the night. Instead of having a good time around a fire we were screamed at, cursed at, accused of being under age (when in fact we're all over 21), called liars, and then after all was said and done, we weren't even given a refund for our $25.00 - and when my friend who paid for the site with her credit card asked for the refund, the owners had the audacity to say, "If you're worrying about $25.00 you've got serious problems, and you're dreaming if you think we're giving it back to you."

All in all this experience has completely soured everyone's opinion on this so called "Business" these women are running. None of us will ever go back there again, which is so sad because we used to enjoy it so much.

We heard what may be a rumor, that this will be their last year running Trowbridge... Let's just say we're praying it is, so that maybe one day we can go back there and actually enjoy ourselves without worrying about something like this every happening again.

I camped at trowbridge two years ago and the two ladys who run it there son/grandson had robbed me when i went there with my 4 year old who was 2 at the time and my cousin and a friend. They boy had some to my camp site with a few of his friends and they were 15/16 asking if i would give them a beer i said no later on they got mad and left. In the morning when we woke up i went to feed my son and all of our stuff was gone, So we had a feeling who did it, and went ot there camper and inside we seen some of our food in there. I freaked out and went to the old lady at the front and told her what had happened how my food got stolen and my beer, and told her where it was and she asked where i seen it all and i told her, and when we went to it she had seen it was her grandsons camper and refused to do anything about it, Then they threatened me and said i was not allowed to camp back there again. A few weeks later my cousin had went back out there and they would not let her camp out there, So i went back out there with my cousin and she said we had to leave, so i got mad and then she siad there better be no more problems this year. I just thought it was [--] that there son robbed us and we arent allowed to camp back there again. The place is a nice place to camp if they got rid of the two ladies that a running it in the summer

Nice BIG sized camp sites in the D section. Lots of partying, had to call police to come out at 4:20am in the morning to calm down the fighting. Quads and trucks coming in from the back road and driving through your site...at high speeds... The bathrooms need a major cleaning and upgrading.....There was dog poo every where....There was some drinking and driving and people walking around the park with alcohol. There is lots of garbage laying in the bush...and in empty camp sites...The two ladies that are at the front office were very polite and could not take care of this campground by themselves... This City of Thunder Bay owned Campground needs more staff to keep it maintained! This Park should be inspected by the Police and Health Inspectors! Keep your stuff in your trailers, LOCKED UP! I will not recommend this Park! CLEAN UP THUNDER BAY!

I'm not sure why there are such bad reviews, we had a beautiful visit, the campground was clean and big, showers were clean, never had any harassment like others mentioned and just found the nature and wildlife there just fantastic! I heard it's under new management and had also had a year to make
Many improvements since it was closed last season since the highway construction was being done, no complaints!

Arrived in the early afternoon on a rainy day, went to the office to get our site (that was prebooked for our 27 foot travel trailer, with hydro and water, by the owner of the camp site) The lady that was working was NOT the owner and was very nice. She had warned us about teenagers stealing things when you slept, and to make sure that ALL your belongings are put away.

We found our site and tried to set up our trailer, no luck, the site that was booked for us was to small for our size of trailer and on a BIG hill. We gave up and went to the office to get a refund and were told "no refunds" but we could have another site. The lady that was working accomodated us with a big rig site, and that the owner would be around to talk to us about the situation later. No one ever came to talk to us.

The next day our family members from out of town went to take a shower and noticed that the shower area was not clean and had mold and mildew EVERYWHERE. There was no place to hang your stuff up, so everything that you needed to shower with had to get wet. We never saw anyone go and clean the washrooms or shower area in the 3 days that we were there.

If you do stay there just keep in mind that it is a CITY OWNED AND OPERATED campground and it is very poorly mainntained and the site are dirty and have many branches of trees that hang over most of the sites.

I would recommend that you not stay at this campground and drive the extra 2-3 kms east and stay at the KOA, it is a little bit more money but is WELL WORTH IT.

When our family arrived at this campsite, we were assigned our site, as is always the case for campers. We have been doing this for years, without incident. Not here. When we got to the site, there was a pitched tent, car, and a whole bunch of other stuff sitting right there. We went back to the check-in desk, and told the young man that this was the case. He said, "well, I guess we'll go have to talk to her."

And so, we were assigned another site. We were lucky here, as it was in a better place. That said, there was trash scattered everywhere throughout the site, and a full trash bag sitting in the fire pit. Really? This is a Canadian provincial campsite. When compared to any American National Park, it stands very poorly. It took us more than an hour to clean up the site so that it was habitable. That is not what is supposed to happen, people!

We had a nice campsite, however, this park seems old, very narrow roadways, most lots are small, and the bathroom facilities were terrible. We felt $40/nite was very overpriced for this park. Because the computers were down, we were not allowed the senior discount which was advertised on their website. The camp ranger told us we would have to go to the City Hall on Monday (which we would be many miles home from our trip by then) to get reimbursed for the discount. It's an OK park but not one we would stay at again.

"If you don't mind the commotion of other people wanting to see the falls, the sites by the rive/falls are lovely and you can't beat the sound of the water at night when you are going to sleep. I n fact, I noticed that it did block out road noise from the main road that was apparent when I went to the showers."
