We booked this hotel in Toronto as we wanted to be in a central location and the fact it was a jazz bar.. it exceeded our expectations!! We had a basic but clean room everything we needed and breakfast was included. We were able to walk to pretty much all the tourist spots we wanted to see from here which was really handy and we got the organised bus trip to Niagara Falls from just nearby. Russ the night guy was really friendly gave us loads of info and looked after us well All in all a great little place to stay at very reasonable rates
my wife and I went on Saturday to catch the early show (7PM) and have something to eat. Menu is basic bar food and value priced. Lots of options my selection was very good. Music is always good and admission is free. The musicians pass the hat for tips - any contribution is voluntary. Saturday show was very good - Neon Eagles - jazz guitar ensemble.
It has been several years since my wife & self first stayed at The Rex. Ever since then it has been one of the reasons we look forward to our infrequent visits to Toronto. It is absolutely quaint. We love the cool vibe this place has , we feel welcome here. The staff are always ready to help you. They all appear to be people who enjoy working here. The rooms are what we want... clean and comfortable. The big upside here is the access to their bar featuring excellent live music. Oh , and the food is real good too.... We look forward to our next stay here.
While small in size the room was clean & A/C worked, (a little loud but that muffled any noise) My room had private bath & was over the bar downstairs, which I could not hear. Great location Dundas st West at the edge of highrise development. For the price best that can be done downtown with one of the best Jazz Clubs in TO downstairs.
Stayed here for a number of nights and in 3 different rooms. It was in a great location and would recommend the hotel for this reason. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Toast, tea, coffee, juice is included which we really enjoyed. The rooms definitely need some updating. We stayed in a couple of different rpa as we went off for a night here and there to niagra etc. Room 109 the shower was pretty mux either scolding hot or cold and the bathroom door was broken. Air con didn't work in our last room on second floor. We stayed on the second floor for our last night and it was so much quieter and we slept much better than the previous nights there. We expected noise from the jazz which was fine but the beds are very small and there was road noise, noise above us etc when we were on the first floor. Bar downstairs is great, good food and drink. Hotel reasonably priced and fab location but sleep quality was poor unfortunately …
