Visited this wonderful old Toronto hotel on a Saturday just before Christmas, for afternoon tea. It truly was delightful, although the three of us consumed two bottles of wonderful champagne with tea, which would improve any event. Tea is served in the library, which has a lovely old world ambiance. The sandwiches and dainty scones and cakes were delicious and...

This is a truly great and historic hotel which was in its heyday in the 30's. The public areas are huge and filled with opulent furniture and antiques. The concierges and bellboys are very knowleadgeable and helpful. Our deluxe twin room contained two small double beds [or two huge singles!] each with thick and squashy mattress toppers and piles of...

Dear perle369, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience. It is wonderful to know everything was seamless overall and you enjoyed a restful visit thanks to our heavenly Fairmont beds and your well-equipped guestroom. (All rooms should be prepared with kettles and we apologize for our small service lapse in this area). We certainly hope for an...

We stayed here last week (during the sudden plummet in temperature to -20c) and absolutely loved it. The hotel lobby is so cosy and welcoming, and the staff are very friendly. We had one of the newly renovated rooms and it was lovely. Slightly disappointing to not have a bath but no other complaints. Hotel is in a great location...

Dear katie_jersey_84, Thank you for your review. It is wonderful to know that our hotel provided a warm and welcoming refuge from the cold and you enjoyed a seamless experience. As a measure of explanation, our new guestrooms with two beds include bathtubs while our new guestrooms with king or queen beds only include a stand up shower. We hope...

I always liked Fairmont hotels. Royal York is in the middle of downtown and business district. Very convenient. Flashed my Fairmont president club membership but couldn't get an upgrade bec the hotel was full. Slightly disappointed. Nevertheless, the staff was efficient and friendly and the concierge was, as always, excellent. But the bedroom and bathrooms were in need of an...

Amazing variety of pastries and wide selection of fine tea paired with delicious small sandwiches. Nice thouch to offer a behind the scenes tour after the afternoon tea was done, informative and fun for sure. I would also like to mention the library bar hostesses handling the afternoon tea and how nice, attentive and genuine they were. Thank you especially...

1. Noise is a problem. Walls are thin, so you can feel as though your neighbors are literally in your room. Housekeeping starts at 8 with the tapping on of doors! 2. Heating is a problem. Our whole stay there the common areas were warm and our room painfully humid 3. No pool. No where on website does hotel indicate...

The worst hotel stay ever! These old hotels could be romantic and comfortable if run by courteous well-trained staff, unfortunately in this case, it was nothing but short of a freakin' nightmarish 12 hour stay (from after dinner 10 pm to the next morning at 10 am). It all started when the outside temperature that evening was 40 degrees F,...

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
