Detailed Reviews
From the tine you check in the experience is wonderful. There is construction on the street in front of the hotel but the beautiful lobby is quiet and elegant. We were warmly greeted at reception and our reservation completed efficiently and quickly on our way to the room. The hallways are wide and wonderfully decorated with an elegant flair of modern but understated opulence. Housekeeping staff are warm and friendly and take pride in their work as the room and the halls was spotless. Had a pleasant meal in the evening in the bar/lounge. The food was well prepared and presented by friendly and very attentive staff and the decor was welcoming and overall atmosphere was relaxing.
Breakfast in the beautiful main dining room has a wide variety of choice, something for everything on the menu and the servers are friendly and upbeat. Unfortunately we were on a tight schedule but would have enjoyed to sit longer in the bright open room and start the day. Decor was fabulous and great attention to detail.
The bedroom was appointed with 2 large beds with sumptuous linens and were very comfortable. The pillows were just right and a good sleep was enjoyed. The room also included a full desk and cabinet area with a large wall mounted TV at just the right height for viewing in the comfort of bed. Generous sized bathroom with luxury marble floors and an absolutely wonderful shower. Very nice toiletries and plush towels and bathrobes were lovely.
Lovely windows out onto the courtyard where there is a patio off the main dining room made the room bright and welcoming and the blackout curtains ensure that the room was perfect for sleeping. A great touch is that the window can actually be opened for fresh air. Just across from the ROM which is one of the best museums globally to visit and great shopping and dining within footsteps make the location hard to beat. Very close to the subway for a fast trip down to the Toronto waterfront as well as over places such as the Eaton Centre and Union Station. Highly recommended and my thanks to the staff for making our stay so pleasant

We booked here for the location and the prices were more affordable than other hotels that were nearby.
Self-parking is available and the parking lot is directly behind the building. (just pull ahead and turn right to get to it. Easy!) Both outdoor and underground parking available. You are able to leave your car there and only pay daily fees - or there is an option to leave/return, but it seemed that you would be charged for every 30min. parked. It seemed cheaper to leave the car parked for our time there. We were within walking distance to the things we planned on doing, so that worked for us.
Staff was pleasant & helpful. The hotel lobby is nice. Busy at times.
The kids really liked our room keys - had pictures of animals dressed in clothing. We didn't have a chance to check out the pool, but did visit the rooftop lounge area briefly to see the view.
We didn't use, but noticed signs that a discount was applied if you bought tickets to the ROM across the street from hotel.

This hotel is very overpriced. The quality and attention to detail does not match the expense and it does not seem to be their priority. The hotel is very aware of their WIFI issues (which also impacts their TV service) but there was no mention of that. Even if you want to use your cell data to watch something (e.g. Blue Jays which was not available on their TV service) it is blocked. The fridges in the rooms have been de-commissioned and they are locked. If you want a fridge you have to call for a mini fridge to be delivered to the room - none of this is communicated at all. I am not sure how many mini fridges there are for the guests that would like to use one. Our curtains did not close fully and the food was below average. We were very disappointed. Many hotels do a much better job. Our response from the hotel was to come back and they would work to do a better job.

We just finished a 3 night stay at this hotel earlier this week.
When researching hotels in this area, I came across this hotel. I decided to status match with my other hotel status to get Sonesta Travelpass Platinum status. I also cancelled another reservation to try out this hotel instead. I regret my decision.
The room was okay. It was pretty dark and difficult to get bright (even after turning on all the individual lights). The shower pressure was terrible. There is a main shower head and a separate shower wand with a lever to select one or the other, or both. The wand had the most power but was still pretty sad. Shower toiletries were okay but the conditioner seemed extra watery.
The fitness center was not very large. 2 treadmills, bench+free weights, 2 arm machines and 1 elliptical. I wanted to swim laps in the pool but each time I passed by there were too many people in it.
Worst part about my stay was not getting the complimentary breakfast as a Platinum member. I booked directly with the website but was told at check-in that since I used a discounted rate, that I don’t get free breakfast. This left a huge terrible first impression on me, especially considering I cancelled another hotel (that I would have gotten free breakfast at with my status) in order to try out this one. I was expecting the breakfast but didn’t get a chance.
I have a lot of travel in cities that have Sonesta hotels and was considering adding them into my rotation of hotels to stay, but after seeing how the breakfast benefit is not as described, I will no longer consider staying at Sonesta hotels.

One of us slept on the floor because the promised rollaway bed was not available. I had booked directly with the hotel and clearly stated 3 adults in the search. It gave me a large room with one bed. As I reserved for 3, I assumed the couch was a pullout. When I called to confirm this more than a week before, I was told that it was not a sleeper couch, but that we could have a rollaway bed. When there wasn’t one upon arrival, I requested one and was told it would be $25 per night and I agreed. They asked if I needed it right away, and I said by 8pm was fine. . When it again failed to arrive, I called again and was told there were no more rollaways left. Hence the floor.
In addition, I had also called ahead to say that my adult son would be checking in first, and gave his name and was told he would need to present a credit card. Fine. Despite this, when he arrived (with credit card and ID) he had to wait a late night hour before they allowed him to check in.
It’s a nice looking hotel, but the lack of communication amongst staff was problematic.

Dear Ms. Sirot, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I am deeply sorry to hear about the inconvenience you faced during your stay, particularly with the unavailability of the rollaway bed and the issues during your son's check-in process. This is not the standard of service we strive to provide, and I apologize for the discomfort and frustration it caused. To address the inconvenience, we have waived the charges for your entire night’s stay. We understand how crucial proper communication and service are, and your feedback has been shared with our team to ensure such issues are promptly addressed and avoided in the future. We appreciate your understanding and hope you might consider giving us another opportunity to provide you with a more seamless and enjoyable experience in the future. Please let me know if there is anything else we can assist you with. Thank you once again for your feedback. Warm regards, Roxanne Choliy Guest Relations Manager

The only positives of this hotel are the room sizes and location. In my opinion, it's not enough to outweigh the negatives. I stayed three nights. Upon arrival we noticed there was only one hanger in the closet. We booked a two queen room. We had bought a large pack of water bottles to put in the fridge. Our refrigerator was locked. We called the front desk. They said they would have someone unlock it as if they could do it remotely. We waited. Still locked. We called again. Waited. Still locked. We went to go get ice from the ice maker down the hall. That didn't work. We called for our refrigerator and the ice maker. They said they'd take care it. Day 2 - still with a locked fridge and no ice. Keep in mind, you can not go to another floor to get ice because your key card only opens to the floor you are staying on. They said they would bring up a new refrigerator... at no charge! Why would be charged in the first place? Didn't have to worry though because the new refrigerator never came. On the 3rd night, my son got sick from a stomach bug or food he ate. We called for housekeeping to remove our trash cans and give us new towels. That's when they said to our surprise, they don't have housekeeping until 8:30am! Being a four star hotel this should be unacceptable. Stay elsewhere!

We drove from Niagara Falls, Ontario to this property. Because of the traffic congestion, the estimated time of arrival was longer than expected. It was worth the wait as this is the best stay on this family trip. We were there only 2 nights. It is also the most expensive, but the fabulous breakfast was included.
The hot breakfast buffet was the best yet. The hot dishes included two types of eggs, poached and lightly scrambled (not overcooked). This, plus two types of sausages, chicken and pork, were accompanied by fresh-squeezed OJ. I sneaked clementine oranges to my room. Finally, we could look forward to breakfast.
As most reviews mention, the location could not be better. I judge the level of my satisfaction by the availability of coffee before the breakfast opening. Cheap coffees were found at Tim Horton's, Circle K, and McDonalds. Across the street is the Yorkville campus of Univ of Toronto -- well-maintained, leafy, and safe. Also across the street is the iconic ROM (Royal Ontario Museum).
The only niggle came at the time of check-out when we were told by one of front desk personnel that only 2 breakfasts allowed per room. That discrepancy was resolved.

This place was not my first choice from the beginning. I specifically chose this place because I was visiting my son who attends U of T, which is only five minutes away.
Here I had several bad experiences. Coming from Dubai I am familiar with good service, but as soon as I stepped in I realized that this place is well below any motel.
1. When my cabbie dropped me off, the first thing I noticed was that there were not any doormen or porters present. So I had to both open the door and drag my two suitcases to the lobby myself, and when I asked if there were any porters available, the answer I got was “yes, they are somewhere”. Unless I had asked I would not have gotten the help I needed, and when I did ask they appeared to be reluctant to fulfill my request.
2. Once I got into the room, I noticed that the mini fridge was locked and not functioning so I called to inquire about it and the receptionist told me that because of Covid 19 they turned off all mini fridges and that if I wanted to use one I would have to pay $25 per day?
This I found ridiculous. As a frequent traveller, I’ve stayed at numerous hotels even during pandemic, and have never encountered a place like this.
With the poor service and the situation with the mini fridge, I do not think it would be right to refer to this as a hotel.
3. The hotel staff, specifically the receptionist, was not attentive nor friendly.
4. The only positive part was the housekeeping, the lady who did my room during my stay was the only saving grace.
5. Your time and money are important so do not risk having a bad stay.

The hotel is nice, front desk staff is friendly and helpful, and it is close to the University and the lovely Annex neighborhood, although Bloor isn't that nice west of the hotel. The beds were a little soft, but not terribly. The pillows, however, were very fat and hurt my neck and upper back. If you stay there and find the pillows uncomfortable, ask at the front desk for some thinner pillows. They did have some, which were still a little fat for my tastes but much better than the pillows that were in the room.
