We stayed for the first time in Toronto at the Jarvis House. Because it was a holiday weekend, all of the name-brand hotels were booked (or 400$ per night). Your experience will depend on your expectations and whether or not you plan to stay in your room all day or get out and see Toronto. We arrived just after check-in... More

I have stayed at Jarvis house many times now. I always love my stay. The location is great, and SUPER easy from the expressway. the price is unbeatable! on this last stay (world pride) the rates where great, and did I mention parking for less than half what others charge?? breakfast from 8-10 am... eggs, bacon, toast cooked to order!... One of my worst experience ever. The owner should have the permit revoked. Don't believe the glowing descriptions on the website nor the pictures you see on line. Place looks dilapidated from the outside, not welcoming at all. Our taxi driver did not know where the place was and sort of frowned when he let us out..looking at the facade... More

Bad beds, Bathroom for very small people, Establishment skinny, WiFi does work only at the breakfast room in the basement, Breakfast very poor. Way over priced (here was cut back on everything). Actually nothing was good; everything was far below our expectation based on the description on the website 'booking.com'. This was by far our worst experience on our tour... More

Stayed here for five days.. Luckily only spent a small amount of time in the room... The first night noticed that the room on the third floor was EXTREMELY cold!! The manager never even turned the heat on.. Had to give us a portable heater to plug in.... Which of course was unsafe to leave turned on while gone all... More

it was an excellent location for our purposes but unfortunately, i would rather pay 10 bucks for a cab rather than stay at this place again dingy old maintenance issues the room was clean but i can't say that about the common areas. we did not have breakfast so can't comment on that. incredibly poor windows. literally thought the windows... This victorian B&B needs a lot of TLC to bring the aura of age and neglect back to stately faded beauty and stepping through the front door immediately makes a lie of Jarvis House's immaculately maintained claim. Climbing the winding staircase to the first floor the first thing you notice are the dirty scuffed walls in dire need of a... More

We wanted to rectify some of the negative comments written on here regarding the owner of Jarvis House. Our experience was nothing but positive, but having said that, we went there expecting nothing but were pleasantly surprised. Erica was friendly, helpful, and never stopped smiling. We stayed in room 3 on the very top floor. It was a steep climb... More

price is right and location is central, the owner is Chinese but speaks Japanese and attracts similar clientele. Carpet is faded and stained but the room is clean. Breakfast not bad in the basement every morning. WILL charge you if you overstay an hour

We stayed here for 4 nights during the Toronto Film Festival. The house looks really worn-out on the outside, so I wasn't really sure what to expect... As soon as we arrived, the host, Erica (Asian and really friendly women) showed us the room under the roof. The room was small, had two beds and a very small bathroom with... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.

“I can only describe Room #6 where I stayed for five (5) days. It was just the right space for one guest (maybe for a couple) with one luggage. The room has a queen size bed, a closet, a set of drawers, a private bathroom, an A/C and a small TV with a few selection of channels. The room has a window big enough for clarity. All in all, the room is clean and maintained clean.”

“main floor front room is nice. my friend stayed in second floor front room once, and I liked that a lot. I normally stay on 3rd floor rm 10, because 2 beds, its super easy to sleep in, and the 2 twin beds are very decent. in room bath. very comfortable.”
